Interesting thing about our rash of IR's in the last several years, if not too detrimental to the team (Collins, Finley, Clay, AR) it forces the next tier guys to step in and gain valuable experience. And then a year later (i.e. 2014) you get all that talent back on top of the newly seasoned second and third year guys.
losing Barclay means the team won't be able to keep 17 Wrs on the roster. There are going to be some good players cut
silverstein tweet from practice; watching the punt returners
"Myles White with another muff . Bush was right in his face."
He did that on purpose
Better Bush than Dix.
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media after Wednesday's practice. Here are some highlights of the news conference:
On interceptions:
We've gotten our hands on a few balls. You get around the quarterback off the spot. Good to see secondary bringing it.
On playing time in Saturday's preseason opener at Tennessee:
My goal for playing time is you want all your young guys to play. We want to make sure all our young guys get a chance to show what they can do.
On whether he'll hold back any starters from Saturday's game:
I haven't gone that far yet. Get through today and we'll get play times out Saturday before practice.
On disguising plays in preseason:
Most people don't show what they're going to show against Seattle. We are an open-practice football team compared to most of the league. We have been practicing inside and doing some things. We won't show what we're doing in the first four weeks of preseason.
On skipping the last three periods of Wednesday's practice:
The fundamentals are optional. This was our toughest practice of training camp. I'm excited to look at the work.
On Wednesday's warm-weather practice:
You definitely want some heated days. This was clearly the hottest day. It's good for us. Tennessee Saturday night will be a challenge.
On whether rookie wide receiver Jeff Janis will play Saturday:
Janis, we put him on a schedule no different than football team. Today was his first padded work. We'll see how he feels tomorrow.
On defensive tackle Letroy Guion's status (out with a hamstring injury):
Guion, I really don't have a feel.
On safety Morgan Burnett's status (out with a strained oblique):
I was told day-to-day on Morgan Burnett. I'll see how he is doing tomorrow.
On tackle Derek Sherrod's growth and tackle Don Barclay's status:
I'd say Derek Sherrod is stronger now than when he came in. Don Barclay has a torn ACL.
Wilde tweets:
He's on the field. RT
@AaronNagler: Damn it. RT@ryanrodigwfrv: Josh Boyd is down for#Packers. Threw helmet in anger. Grabbed hamstring.
I'm not exactly sure what to make of that but it doesn't sound good....
Boyd doesn't sound good, and it sounded like he was having a good camp. Not For Long seems to be an indication of health in a player's career.
What happened to training camp?
That is fantastic. Maybe not the singing so much but the rest is sooper dooper.
Thanks to all the fans for the support n nice messages I've received since yesterday.Cant wait to attack this obstacle n get back out there!
Better Bush than Dix.
If only Mike Hunt , and Cleditus were still around, we could have a world class double entendre convention.
Holy crap. Nice route Adams.
That's Adams vs. Casey Hayward in TC
#Packers rookie WR Davante Adams smokes Casey Hayward:
That's from OTA's.
Yep. Must have. That resurfaced on several sites yesterday.
We all have our Goldie moments.
in his defense, it was posted under a headline "This UNBELIEVABLE football video will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!! I cried at 0:09"
weird. not one word about Josh Boyd today. hope that means all is well.
weird. not one word about Josh Boyd today. hope that means all is well.
Boyd is o.k. "Defensive end Josh Boyd went to the ground in pain during a team drill, but he did not miss any time."

"Hello, Jeff Janis. Phenomenal catch vs. Sam Shields (and great throw by Tolzien) for red-zone TD. Pinpoint throw. Amazing catch."
Good to see Janis show something in his few snaps.
Nice to hear about that regarding Janis. I am hoping he makes the team.
So Janis can catch a ball with one small hand!
Don't cover him too close Sam. Could turn into a rare case of Ass Fault Shingles. I hear those meds take 2 weeks to take hold.
Sam can cover, if, allowed to hand check.
This week's sked per ESPN, all times local:
Here's a look at this week's practice schedule (all times local):
- Monday: Noon (closed to fans)
- Tuesday: Noon (open to fans)
- Wednesday: 11:45 a.m. (open to fans)
Just like last week, the players will be at the team facility on Thursday and Friday but will not practice Thursday and will hold a short walk-through session on Friday before they leave for St. Louis.
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media after Monday's practice. Here are some highlights:
On injuries to wide receivers Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams and defensive end Josh Boyd:
Jordy Nelson has a hamstring injury and Davante Adams has a wrist injury. Josh Boyd has a rib injury.
On running back Rajion Neal's knee injury and how he played:
Rajion Neal isn't a long-term injury. He had good run decision. I thought he did a nice job running the course. Obviously, you like to finish on the touchdown run.
On linebacker Joe Thomas' injury:
Joe Thomas has a knee injury. I'm told it's not long-term, either.
On grading Saturday night's game:
Clearly, it was one of the best preseason I've been a part of. It was a training environment you can't create. It's like anything else in football. To be able to play under those circumstances, it hits every part of your operation. The headsets went down. We had players making calls on the field, checks on the field. Those are things that you coach. You try to create that in practice. The ability to play with balance. It's a great opportunity. It's nice when it rains like that and it's still warm. That game Saturday night was something we could build off of.
On how long Nelson will be out:
Jordy Nelson, don't anticipate it being a long-term injury.
On four scuffles at practice:
"I think it's just a matter of things going on. There's an irritation level that's higher. There's a lot of hitting today at practice. I knew it was going to be a competitive practice. That's what you're looking for. I think that's normal this time of training camp.
On offensive linemen JC Tretter and Derek Sherrod:
"I liked them both. I thought Derek and JC both played well. JC had one correction but handled the football well (at center), especially in that environment. I think Derek, that might be the best he's played since he's been here."
On tight end Brandon Bostick in the red zone:
"He's a big, physical athletic tight end. He's added weight. He's stronger. I think one of the basic simple philosophies of attacking end zone is big targets."
On wide receiver Jeff Janis:
"He's raw and he needs the work but he's a big athletic receiver."
On who jumped out during Saturday's game:
"Joe Thomas made a huge play on the kickoff and gets hurt a little while after that. Neal, the way he ran the football. I thought Garth Gerhart played extremely well at the center position. (Linebacker) Sam Barrington played well. That's as good as Sam has played. I thought our secondary played well. I was pleased with that first and second group. I thought (safety) Ha Ha (Clinton-Dix) had one missed tackle and came right back and made a nice play. He did some things on special teams. I thought a lot of guys jumped out."
On getting what he wanted from practice:
"That's an in-season Wednesday practice for us. I thought it was a good practice. Film is going to be good. Our run defense with our second and third group wasn't very good. Two-minute situation was competitive. I was very pleased."
On linebacker Sam Barrington's growth:
"I thought Sam was hesitant last year. He was thinking too much. You could see the ability. You could see the instincts. He has that big hit ability. He's letting it go now."
Do you want to see a young receiver separate himself?
"It's why you have the preseason games. Coming out of last week, they'll be champing at the bit to have a productive passing game. It's going to be competitive. Clearly it's going to come down to the end. That group has the most depth we've had in training camp."
Great...Jordy gets the big payday and now the chronic injuries will appear. Thanks Ted.
Watching Barrington fly around with no regard reminded me of Bishop when he was coming into his own. Hoping it continues because we all know the ILB group could use some juice.
