It may have even been higher than that. I thought the option was negotiable but apparently under the CBA it's locked in and that's not the case. Obviously in that case the price tag was prohibitive given his history.

Stop with the sky is falling after one game.  The guy was out of football for almost 2 years with as gruesome a leg injury as we've seen since Joe Theisman.  It's his first full offseason in his career and after 2 preseason games (1 good, 1 bad), you guys are ready to pull the plug?  Do me a favor and look at the rest of the NFL's backup offensive linemen.  They all suck.  Just look at the Rams', they gave up 3 sacks in 4 plays to a guy who's going to get cut soon.  This is the state of the NFL; you splurge on your stars and when it comes to the backups, you cross your fingers.

If Sherrod has to start, they'll leave a TE/RB in to block, they'll shift protection, they'll make it work.  It wouldn't be ideal but you know what?  If Sherrod is starting that means 2 of their top 3 OT's got hurt.  No team in the NFL could handle that.   If you think an NFL team should be able to seamlessly run their offense with their #4 OT, you are kidding yourself and need to get back into reality.  If there is a better option out there, TT will find it.  But I highly doubt we find a starting caliber LT on the street in late August.

I think that's the frustrating part. There's no fretting about our #2 RT Adams having a bad game because it's unsurprising. It should be surprising that Sherrod has a bad game his draft slot. It wasn't that he got smoked on 1 play, he got smoked multiple times by different players at different positions. If Sherrod was a 5th round pick then I doubt there would be so much criticism, but Sherrod is a 1st round pick who is in his contract year and has done absolutely nothing. It's not his fault, no one is blaming him for his injury, but it's not unfair to criticize his play after that kind of outing. Genius Tretter just played his first two games as a pro and has performed much better. At least Sherrod has some experience.

Understandable.  I'm guilty of viewing AJ Hawk through those same glasses.  But after that leg injury, the expectations that came with being a first round pick were gone.  At least in my eyes they were.

More jobs. Can't hurt Packers either as TT has a good record in bringing folks on to the PS who eventually become contributors.

I suppose this could be some more owner-prep for trying to sell 18 game regular season, too. More replacement parts.

Nobody seems to talk about it much but one of the consequences of the latest NFL collective bargaining agreement is a raid on younger and younger college football talent.

Here we go with 64 more slots open to tempt more college sophomores and juniors. The earlier you get that rookie contract the better chance to have two big paydays in your prime. That's how the agents think anyway. Not to mention that the whole new NFL model is going with speed and youth to match the new faster game and stay under cap.

Not saying it's good or bad but it seems like a huge impact on NCAAF to me.

You? Aren't you the one who thinks 1st rounders are a dime a dozen?

I've had the opinion that the draft capital and money and cap space used up by 1st round picks wasn't worth it. Too much risk. ALWAYS TRADE DOWN.

The new CBA has made things a lot more team friendly so it isn't as bad anymore.

Still, I get excited by "1st round talent" just like everybody else, and I'd like to see TT get more out of his recent 1st round picks.

Like father, like son....Ron Wolf sucked at 1st round too

I agree about the "always trade down" part too. Occasionally he hits on 1 though (Clay, obviously Rodgers). I think Lacy is a 1st round talent too. Lucky to have him

I like my masturbation done correctly...with my right hand. Except on Tuesdays when my left had gets freaky.

Better?

Wankers of the world unite.

Sherrod is just a guy at best.

I sure hope Ha Ha reverses TT's 1st round curse of the last several years.

I hear you brother.  Outside of Rodgers and Clay, it's been a disappointment... although I do like Bulaga quite a bit.

I haven't been impressed with Dix in the limited action he has had.  Granted I don't have the all 22 yet and its only been about 40 plays.. Some rookies jump out and look like difference makers right away, not seeing that with him..  Maybe harder for rookie S's to do that.

3-4 years for safety's (safeties?) to fully develop.

From what I've seen of Ha-Ha, he's always around the ball. That alone is a gigantic improvement over 2013 safety play.

The other guys will be able to help him out too as they've been in the system for a few years now.

Davon House is the big wildcard here. He could really be the guy that surprises.

Nick Collins officially retires

What I've seen he is also a very sure tackler.  Another revelation for the position.

I was sure that I would never see a safety worse than Marquand Manual.  Last year, Jennings proved me rong.  The safety play this year is going to look much better, even if it vaults itself into the realm of average.

Remember that Hyde is just learning how to play safety so we have inexperience back there, but better talant. If Burnett can't improve, we may see Hyde or someone else in his spot after this year.

There was no practice Wednesday afternoon, but Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke with the media for about 10 minutes. Here's a quick rundown of the highlights.

On Jeff Janis:

I think Jeff Janis is no different than any other player. When you hand out the playbook, you have a general understanding of the plays and assignments. The adjustment part of the game of football is an evolving process. You have communication network that's always changing. It really comes down to getting experience, getting quality reps for Jeff, just like any young player.

On Colt Lyerla:

I know Colt was waived-injured. That's his status right now. Just like any guy who goes through this, you have to take it as an opportunity to improve yourself physically and mentally. We'll just see what happens.

On Colt Lyerla's perseverance:

What he's been through in the past, to me, it's the past. It's a learning experience that hopefully he carries forward. At the end of the day, we feel very good about our program. We try to put a support group around all our players, and Colt is no different.

On Brandon Bostick:

I hope so. I hope so. He's going through the rehab process. Once he starts running on it we'll know more.

On tight ends:

I really like the growth of it. I think the group did well this spring, and I think they carried it on to training camp. Obviously, more opportunities for other guys with Brandon's injury. I think they're continuing to get better.

On longer extra points:

I think it looks weird. It's a big process to get them to go to the 15 to the 2-point plan. It's a big adjustment. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Once again, the competitiveness of the play, the want to improve that. So far, it looks like they've done that.

On whether he approved of the change:

I really don't have a strong opinion on it. I just think, you have a history and you start talking about things over the course of history, change is sometimes hard. If it converts at 99.9 percent, I think it does merit a change.

On players who may not play Friday night:

I do not. We're going to practice tomorrow, so we'll see after practice.

On practice squad expanding to 10 players:

I think the practice squad is great. Going to 10, the fact that you can walk into your team meeting and have two more players, I think it's great for the team. I think it's great for the league. I think it's great for the product. It'll be great to have 63 players.

On not giving away secrets on film:

I was in a conversation this morning with Alex Van Pelt, he's in charge of our red zone. You've got to be conscious of that. Football is football. We have plenty of offense to compete Friday night. We are very aware of what lies ahead.

On Aaron Rodgers' reps Friday:

Aaron will play more than one series.
