*Yes the officials were here, including Ed Hochuli, and they were calling everything. The CBs were getting frustrated, especially Casey Hayward. There was a rep from the NFL
guiding the refs about whether their calls were good or not. It was clearly their training camp also. The fans were getting frustrated with how many flags were flying.
*Not much changed from yesterday's practice. It was a lot of the same.

*As you can see I have Bradford and Janis getting released. Bradford hasn't been bad, but he just doesn't look comfortable in space as a 34 OLB. He's high energy, he follows instructions, he's strong, but he looks awkward and clumsy dropping back in coverage. He's just not there yet. Janis needs to get on the field because they aren't keeping 7 WRs and those other guys are earning spots.
*Dorsey was on the #1 Kick Return unit as a blocker and was the KR with the 2's so I keep getting the feeling he's proving his utility to the team beyond being a WR.
*Same for Abby who appears to be the #1 PR.
*Although this rookie Tackle Adams is consistently running with the 2's and is on the #2 KR unit, I think they choose to stash him on the PS and let Sherrod/Barclay be the backup RT.
*Guion and Worthy need to get on the field because Luther Robinson keeps getting more comfortable. Worthy needs to come back and have a very strong camp to make it, he's in year 3 and has to show he can take the next step. There are younger and hungrier guys here.
*6 OLBs may seem like a lot, but Palmer and Mulumba are entrenched on STs and they both have shown marked improvement from last year. Hubbard is going to go on the PS, he has raw athleticism but needs time.
*Goodson looks like he could be a player similarly to Tramon, but he's very raw. Hopefully they can stash him on the PS.
*I won't be surprised if they keep Banjo at the expense of another position. He's been a ST mainstay and looks like he has some instincts, but it's really crowded at Safety.
*The weirdest thing is the offense practicing before practice in the Huston Center. The first team O comes out late every day, not sure why the secrecy or what they're working on. This is the first year they have done that so I'm wondering if they're working on something secret or new? It's very strange.
That's my last report. Were on our way home . Don't know if I'm right on my opinions, but these are just my observations. It's interesting how the reporters seem to have different takes on some of these players, I don't know who is right, I just tell you what I see.

I'm not down on the guy but could this be the year that J Bush is let go? Seems there's a lot of young talent and everyone knows Bush is just a STer and nothing more.
I know what you mean, Tdog. But maybe Bush provides consistency and leadership for ST's. Now, he's probably like a coach for the unit. IF he can continue to at least be competent in a dime package, then I think he stays. However, with so much young talent, he could be gone if the Packers don't want to cut a DB with loads of potential.

The other interesting thing was the defense. This is going to be a different D than we have seen with Capers. As I said before there are a lot more 5+ LB sets then I've ever seen. Peppers and Neal were at OLB, Hawk and Jones at ILB, and Matthews moving all over the place. I think Clay is in for a big year. It reminded me of the kind of Rover role that Woodson used to play except where pass rushing is the primary role for Clay instead of how coverage was for Wood. It was a 2-5-4 look and they ran it way more than the Base 34 or the Nickel.
The other interesting look was the 3 ILB look that was more of like a traditional 43 look except with OLBs in place of DEs. This was interesting because it moved Hawk to more of WLB role, Jones to SLB role and then Joe Thomas was in as kind of a MLB. It got my excited because Hawks best seasons were as a WLB in the 43. Perhaps Capers is catering more to what he has rather than forcing guys into roles they aren't suited for? I have some hope that is the case.

Here's a link to a Fritz Shurmer Eagle-5 defense we talked about earlier in the offseason....with 5 LBs on the field.
He ran it with the Rams in the 80s and its perfectly suited to hybrid players like Peppers/Neal/Perry who can play standing up or with a hand in the dirt and both inside & outside rushers.

I think this is why they keep 1 less DL this year. That roster spot could go to another DB, like Banjo. It could also be used to keep another pass rusher, like Bradford.

As to the starting O staying inside to practice at the start, I think it was someone at the JSO (or GBPG) that speculated it was to work crowd noise issues. At least that writer said loud crowd noise was heard from inside the Hutson Center while they were in there. With the 1st game at Seattle that makes sence.

That's true there was a lot of crowd noise on a couple days. Didn't heat the crowd noise today or yesterday though. Maybe I'm hoping it's something mysterious and awesome happening. I assumed it was some special packages, maybe some WildCobb formations? Maybe some new stuff now that they actually have a running game? I thought it was interesting that the only WRs that went in were Nelson, Cobb, Boykin, Adams, White, and Chris Harper.
The other thing I forgot to mention was about this WR Gillette. He had another really strong day catching the ball. Again I wish he was a little taller or a little faster because he could be a really good WR. Seriously doubt he's kept though, so slow.

If WR Gillette runs as slow as his video highlights, he may not be long for GB much less the NFL. Sloooow-mo. Strong, tough, and good hands, but he might not even be able to outrun Hawk.
You get beyond that quick first step that worked so well for him at MSU and Worthy really doesn't have much to offer. I've already marked him down as a TT mistake.
Myles White is having a very good camp and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he makes the final cut. MM had some good things to say about Joe Thomas yesterday and he's another guy I'm keeping an eye on.
Regarding Gillette. Demetri Goodson has been praised for his athletic ability. Raw, but clearly an athletic guy that can be developed. Gillette ran a go route against Goodson yesterday. Positioned himself to go over the top of Goodson to catch what's being described as the play of camp so far.
4.65 40 time. Whatever. Can he play football?
