NFL kickers went 21 of 23 on attempts >50 yards this weekend.

While GB did not attempt a 50+ yard FG, Narveson was 0-1 from 40+ yards. (His extra points did not just sneak through, or miss, so that was at least an improvement over Anders I guess).

If the goal is yet another bottom of the barrel Special Teams ranking in 2024, the Pack is off to a great start.

We get the shitty special teams we tolerate.

Or defense.

Or OL play.

Etc.

I've never been one for having a knee-jerkin' asshole as your HC who throws a tantrum and keeps making changes on emotion. But with MLF, I feel like we have the opposite personality. He is patient to a fault. No one fears losing their jobs...on the team or on the staff.

"That's on me," only goes so far. He's lucky he works for a team in the softest of softball media markets on the planet.

I think most kickers without a resume are three bad kicks at the wrong times from the street. With this kid at least his makes are strong and down the middle. He can't afford to be the reason they lose this week, though. On the other hand it's a great opportunity for him to build his confidence and endear himself to the organization if he's a key part of why they win. The margins are likely to be close if we win. Chances are good we learn a lot about him this week.

They have got to get a new kicker.  😡

Unfortunately, they have to. Who is worth a crap that’s available? They may have to make an actual trade involving a higher draft pick and take on salary to have a reliable option. This is costing them games already, how many more do they want to lose due to not having an NFL kicker?

Sorry, but I cannot give Rich Bisaccia a pass. His squads aren't great overall, and he's had two young kickers with strong legs in Carlson and Narve, practice guys, and Joseph, and Rich hasn't done squat with any of them. In fact, you could argue he's turned them on a downward path from their earlier performances, especially Narve, who looks like he is losing confidence by the kick and over-thinking everything.

Whelan is the only guy who seems to have gotten better with Rich; maybe he works better with punters. The sample size is pretty good now, and I just don't see Rich as deserving of the big $$$ and his position.

100% unacceptable - the guy should've not been allowed in the team locker room yesterday.

Something else Demovsky said today... why don't teams have Kicking coaches?

Seems we've gone from 7 coaches (HC, 3 D, 3 O) to about 31 now.

He must know he's been on a very short leash, even before this past Sunday. Just wondering if that added internal pressure to perform has negatively impacted him?

If that's the case, he shouldn't be there.  The capacity to shut out pressure seems even more important than a strong leg.

Because kickers like their own personal coaches…and as long as it works, teams don’t care too much. Kicker is the most mental positon on the squad. It’s a simple operation that has to be near perfect every step of the way. An inch off, and the kick won’t be right. Very little margin for error.

I still say longsnapper is a problem…Packers haven’t had a good one since Goode.

From Dougherty/Baranczyk film review: Link (paywall)

As hard as it is right now, it’s too early to give up on kicker Brayden Narveson. After his two big misses Sunday, Narveson has missed four field goals in three games, all less than 50 yards, and that number is five including a miss at Tennessee that was wiped out by a Titans’ penalty.

But it’s too early to get on the kicker carousel if the Packers like what they see from Narveson in practice — coach Matt LaFleur said Monday he’s kicking better in practice than Anders Carlson did last season.

Unless they think practice-squad kicker Alex Hale is ready, their best option might be sticking with Narveson for the next month. Then if he’s still struggling as the Nov. 5 trade deadline nears, they can try to trade a draft pick for a more established kicker from a team that’s out of contention.

Newsflash...there are no proven, and by proven I mean average, kickers at this point in the season. Anyone you bring in is going to be a crapshoot or a project and could potentially be worse than The Narv.

If they were going to make a change at K, they would have done it after the MIN game. The Narv is who they will roll with this season unless he just keeps missing kicks at the current rate. And they will once again "address it," in the off-season. Pineiro is going to be a FA from Carolina, but he's probably going to cost $2.5M-$3M which doesn't seem like it fits the Gutey-Balls plan.

There's always a bunch of college kids available as FA to sign, no need to draft one. Maybe you get lucky and find a guy in his mid-20's whose been bouncing around for a couple years and has finally come into his own.
