There's always a bunch of college kids available as FA to sign, no need to draft one. Maybe you get lucky and find a guy in his mid-20's whose been bouncing around for a couple years and has finally come into his own.

How about finding an 80 year old nun. From my grade school experience they can produce a swift kick while wearing combat boots.

My opinion may be unpopular, but I think they should give Narve another month minimum or even the year. It can be difficult for a new kid, in Lambeau, new to the league, and being a big boy, but if he has the potential, you sometimes have to put up with the warts until the Compound W kicks in. MM didn't twitch when we all said Mason was done, and he cost GB games; instead, they made their faith in him known almost every week. We all know what happened next. If they do the same for Narve, he might settle down. I do like his attitude and that little bit of cockiness he can show. However, he should call Mason for some tips!

The LS may be more problematic. It seems like his snaps are slow and don't rotate well. If the snap is slow, the kicker has to wait that extra eyelash of time to ensure it gets down, and in the NFL an eyelash is all it takes to screw things up.

Kicking and punting are definitely the most "mental" of all positions. The act is much more controlled, and rarely subject to anything the defense does, compared to any other part of the game. Technique and leg strength vary slightly . The biggest factor seems to be that voice in your head that says "what if I miss this". The good ones don't ever hear that voice. It's almost impossible for coaches to know what they have until they actually get into games.

@MikeGarofalo:   Veteran K Brandon McManus worked out for the #Packers today.

Looks like he's finally past the bullshit....supposedly.

The Packers don't usually give anyone a chance unless they know for sure.

Here's the allegations.  A judge doesn't allow their anonymity so they had to refile the suit.

Like I said ....I highly doubt the kicker gets a shot with Green Bay unless the Packers know for sure he's cleared of wrong doing.

See ya, kid

@TomPelissero:   Veteran kicker Brandon McManus is signing with the #Packers, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo.

The team is releasing Brayden Narveson, who has missed 5 of 17 field-goal attempts. Green Bay’s kicker carousel spins again — and they hope it stops with McManus.

MODS:  may want to edit the title of this thread or start a new one. I vote for the former

Some career info on McManus from @BillHuberNFL at SI.com

Last year with Jacksonville, McManus made 81.1 percent of his field-goal attempts – right in line with his 10-year mark of 81.4 percent. He missed five kicks over a five-game span late in the season but finished strong. He was 5-of-10 from 50-plus yards and made all 35 point-after attempts.

In nine years with the Broncos, McManus made 81.4 percent of his field-goal attempts. He has never had a great year; his best marks were 85.7 percent in 2015, 85.3 percent in 2016 and 85.3 percent in 2019. He’s never had a bad year, either. After making 69.2 percent as a rookie in 2014, his only sub-80.0 percent seasons were 75.0 percent in 2017 and 77.8 percent in 2022.

In the Broncos’ march to a Super Bowl championship in 2015, McManus made 10-of-10 field goals in three playoff games – including a playoff-record five field goals against Pittsburgh and three field goals in the Super Bowl.

The 33-year-old has a strong leg, with a career mark of 45-of-82 from 50-plus yards (54.9 percent) with a long of 61 yards in 2021, with the caveat that he spent half of his seasons kicking in the Mile High City.

Teams have been awaiting clarity on his status due to off-the-field questions. However, on Sept. 30, the NFL “found insufficient evidence” that McManus violated the NFL’s personal-conduct policy.

He had been accused by two women of sexual assault during the Jaguars’ flight to London last season.

The Washington Commanders, who had signed him to a one-year, $3.6 million deal during free agency, released him in June.

While the NFL’s ruling paved the way for McManus to sign with a team, the contract language probably was more complicated than just a standard one-year contract worth X dollars. With that out of the way, McManus is back in the league and the Packers hope they have a reliable kicker since Mason Crosby made 86.2 percent of his attempts in 2022 but was let go because of declining leg strength.

Brandon McManus's overall accuracy isn't great (81.3%), but he's at 90.8% inside 50 yards.

From 45 and closer I want 99.9%.

That one miss better be in a game the Pack is up 45-10 with 2 minutes to go.

Enough of the missing kicks bullshit. Christ we saw Buffalo and the Jets miss kicks last night too.

He probably only kicked in domes a couple times per year in his career.  Experience in the conditions is a big deal.

Wonder what his dome stats are.  And what his accuracy in November December January is.

Need the stats stat
