I don’t know, seemed pretty matter of fact to me which I much prefer when what’s written is from the perspective of someone who doesn’t actually know the game.  Peter King and his cronies may have been around the game on the media side for decades and have more access than anyone, but I don’t think he knows any more about the technical aspects of football than any of us - scouting, X’s and O’s, game management, etc.  I enjoy reading MMQB’s “insights” that they get from having such access; but I really dislike when they get into the technical parts of the game without actually having played, coached, scouted, etc. in the league.  Andrew Brandt can write about how an NFL front office works; Peter King should not.

The great Jeff Ash of the GBPG (who was an Internet pioneer for putting Packer stuff out on the web) gets a deserved write-up at The Big Lead for one of his latest doings. Highly recommended as is the Twitter follow.

Green Bay Writer "Live Tweets" 50th Anniversary of Packers Dynasty Stories

As just about anyone who’s ever watched pro football can attest, the Lombardi-helmed Packers won three consecutive NFL championships from 1965-1967, an era which included the first two Super Bowls. While these teams have been covered extensively, they remain quite interesting in football lore through the depth of their talent and personalities. As such, Jeff Ash, who’s spent over 25 years at the Green Bay Press Gazette, has independently embarked on a project where he’s poring through microfilm and tweeting out quotes, stories, and other tidbits on the fiftieth anniversary of their dates.

“I wanted to explore telling old stories in a new way, via Twitter, with the insight and perspective gained from 50 years having passed since the Packers’ back-to-back-to-back championship seasons,” Ash tells TBL. “Last fall, the National Weather Service in Marquette, Mich., live-tweeted the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald in a fierce November storm, 39 years after it happened. I thought I could do something similar with Packers history, thus @packers656667.”

“Right now”, the team is in training camp in 1965, and a series of Vince Lombardi quotes feel prophetic in retrospect...

The legend of Jumal Rolle grows, and now I'm sure Tay Glover-Wright is going to get the same treatment. We keep letting these legendary players get away from us! Unsurprising that Michael "Eeyore" Rodney talks about how right he thinks he was/is. His site used to be so good and then he turned in to such a pessimist.

It's actually kind of a hilarious problem to have...having too many good players that some fans get upset about losing a practice squad player. Or a practice squad player from GB moves on to make in impact for another team.

New trends. NFL QBs getting in lockeroom fights? First Kapernick slips Aldon Smith the mickey,  then Cam Newton attacks a teammate for picking of too many of his passes. Now this? I sure hope when it is Aarod's time that he directs his furor at Mason Crosby.

Why cover a few boring drills, Geno getting cracked is big news. The Jets just got a lot better on offense.
