Cobb = MVP. Let's see more of him like that.
Sitton made Willis a nonfactor.

-
PENALTIES,.
Bush. No reason for him to be on the field except as a blitzer or ST's. He is worthless in coverage.
Smith. Just plain pathetic out there. As bad as Hawk can be, he at least had a clue. Smith was embarrassment.
Harbaugh. Just because.
Rodgers looked like he was in a daze for most of the game. Not the swagger of the 15 games last season.
Pass rush. Nonexistant. As usual.
THIS DEFENSE. DO THEY EVEN CARE AT ALL? OR ARE THEY JUST AFTER THE PAYCHECK?!?!?!?!?!?

I hate saying this, but I'm kind of glad they lost. This team needs a good slice of humble pie now and then.

You guys have hit it all already...Cobb was a monster all game what a great weapon and will only get better.

As for the negatives yes the refs were horrible just glad there were so many bad calls it felt even. While I'll say the defense as a whole I am optimistic as they get more reps with one another this too should improve. Gonna give San Fran a lot of props for holding down the offense but really disappointed (even more so then the D)

IT was one game, sucks that it was a divisional game but one has to expect improvement. I'd rather lose the first game of the season then the last game of the season.

How many servings do they need? They got quite the slice against the Giants.

I'd sooner see what Casey Hayward has to offer vs Bush. Worthy and the DL (minus CMIII and Matthews) did him no favors but Christ teams know exactly what they have in Jarrett Bush.

And I've seen 16 year old girls tackle better then Sam Shields.

My dad mentioned the same thiong about Rodgers, being in a daze.

Capers' defense was horrible, especially in the first half. F-

Recievers were bad today with the exception of Cobb. Not getting much separation.

Smith was so bad...why didn't the put someone else in there.

Game plan was bad. Run game was bad.
How about some reasons not to over-react to a single loss:

It can take time for offenses like the Packers' to get their timing down. It's harder still against a team that plays the style of ball that the 49ers do.

Last year aside, MM's teams have tended to start slow.

The defense is filled with lots of young players that will take a little time to grow into their roles.

The 49ers are a very good team, returning 20 of 22 starters.

Today the 49ers were better than the Packers. That doesn't mean they will be in January.
I'd have hoped that losing to a 9-7 team in the playoffs after going 15-1 in the regular season was enough humble pie. Apparently not.

+ Cobb. Explosive
CMIII

- Bush. Doesn't ever belong on the field unless it's as a member of special teams. Ever.
- Most of the offensive line. AR-12 was running for his life most of the day
- No running game. None. When you play good opponents, you need some balance to your attack. At least the threat of a run. We didn't have that today.
- tackling. Terrible.
- Finley. drops again.
- the refs.

CMIII - He plays his ass off. Would be nice if he had any help.
Cobb - This guy is going to be great weapon. I'd love to see swing passes to him coming out of the backfield more...
Finley - Looked like I expect him to. One drop, but pleased with his play.

-
Defense other than CMIII - Guys are open left and right, LBs covering WRs, missed tackles. Bush is really bad. Burnett looked even worse.
OL - had moments, but overall not very solid day
AR - Really horrible pick. His numbers looked OK, but not a lot of WRs catching the pass in stride in 1st. His bar is obviously higher, but he didn't play great IMO.

---
Dom Capers - Is there a ton of talent on D? Perhaps not, but good lord. The exact same issues we lived through all of last year, nothing changes. Confusion in backfield, gaping holes where receivers are wide open. Little to no pass rush save an occasional blitz or CMIII. I'm very down on Capers right now. I see nothing different, I see no attempt at changing things up. SF is a good team, but that is an average at best offense. They made our defense look like a high school team repeatedly.
I didn't like the fact that it just seemed like Harbaugh was out-coaching McCarthy for most of the game. He had an answer for everything. Really exposed a lot of weaknesses, some we knew about, others I was surprised by.

SF is a good team, and I wasn't surprised they were more physical. But I was disappointed in the preparation level I saw in the Packer O today. Sure, SF had something to do with that, but I guess I had gotten used to seeing McCarthy out-coach guys. That didn't happen today.

The officiating was horrendous. Ticky tack followed by inexplicable swallowing of whistles. Both ways. Really poorly officiated game.

Glad to see Matthews back to form. He looked great coming from the right side. And he better continue it- the secondary looked really bad today.

And the Packer ILBs need an overhaul. How many miscommunications in coverage can you have? How many times were they a day late flowing to the ball? I have been a supporter of Hawk's for a while, but he better start playing more physical football or he's going to lose his job.

Play calling - were one dimensional and everybody knows it, even with an RB we're not going to really use him.
No urgency until after Gores touchdown then they started playing.

extra:

I'm not going to call out the O-line because I wasn't surprised by their play as this is just a continuation of their play from last year and nothing was done in the off season to improve them.

And he'll lose his job to who? That's the problem. Francios or Moses, this isn't pre-season anymore. Now maybe they will practice better then Hawk but it's still highly unlikely either unseat him. There is no DJ Smith riding his ass. He's already on the field.

AJ actually tackled today. Same thing can't be said for Shields, Burnett, CJ Wilson, etc. This defense was very vanilla today.
One point that seems inexcusable, and which relates to the preparation and on-field performance of the team, is the fact that the secondary was not settled during the preseason. As soon as House got injured, they should have had a better plan than Bush.

I wonder if Bush is really our second best corner (sounds like a recipe for disaster). It would seem that Wood would be better than him. Perhaps Bush should have been a safety instead.

This team lacks balance, and defenses in the NFL (other than perhaps oursSmiler will soon find consistent ways to shut down a one-dimensional offense, just like they eventually shut down "The Greatest Show On Turf" and other good offensive systems. The one that has consistently performed has been the Patriots, but that is partly because of consistent OLine play and significant versatility (short passes before Moss, long bombs with Moss, tight ends / Welker last year, etc...)
Plus:

Cobb - need the ball in his hands. He makes plays.
Mathews - just a beast coming off the edge. Had a great game.
Jones - with Jennings and Nelson largely no-shows, JJ stepped up in 2nd half.

Minus:

Both lines. Packers are getting consistently beat in the trenches. On offense, the run blocking is poor and pass blocking average. On defense, they can't stop the run and there is little push on pass plays. Same as last year. I think we need a new approach (coaching), esp on the o-line.

AR12: I think he has been very ordinary, starting last December. Perhaps through no fault of his own. He is getting lazy with some of his mechanics, with a bad tendency to throw off his back foot. I saw it in preseason and I saw it today. Maybe the porous o-line is the reason for this.

It seems to me that there is a pattern now for playing AR12 and the offense. Rush 4, play safeties in a deep cover 2, try to contain Rodgers in the pocket. With no viable run game, the LBs and safeties can play pass all day long. We can all see, the semi-rollout and throw deep has not been there for several games now. The safeties just sit back there and wait for Jennings or Nelson. The Bears do it, KC did it last December, the Giants do it, SF did it today, and we'll see it again Thursday night. Time for MM to adjust. The use of Cobb is a good start, but it sure would be nice to see a run game again. It was the difference in the game today and it was the difference last January against the G-men.

And please, MM . . . on 3rd and short, just get the effing first down. I have seen enough 30 yard pass plays on 3rd and 1.

Just one fan's opinions . . . agree or disagree.
What has to concern you is 3 teams GB has faced:

Giants

49'ers

Chiefs

All 3 teams punched GB in the mouth on both lines. GB had no answer.

Physical teams don't match well with the 2011 and so far this season's Packers.

And facing the Bears this week, not like it's going to get any easier.

That the 49'ers rushed 3 AND got pressure on Rodgers should be worriesome.

Like him or not AJ Hawk had an excellent game

N. Perry did alright too...

Need to fix the protection so we can throw passes that require more than a 3 step drop...

Having an average running game would help the protection...

I agree, I thought Hawk haad a very good game. Anyone that says he's a bust is delusional. On Benson, I saw no holes opened up by the O line, coupled with the fact that the 49ners stop the run very well.

Tackling sucked!

Cobb
CMIII
Jones
No injuries
It's only one game
I'm pretty sure the season still goes on

-

Hawk continues to make plays 5 yards down field. It's his last season in GB
Bush starting? Speechless. He still can't cover anybody.
Run defense still looks bad
Finley with more drops
Long bombs on 3rd and short. C'mon on man!!!
Allowing Randy-****ing-Moss to catch a TD pass
I rarely bitch about the refs.. but a few calls today were just really, really bad
Appeared to be more miscommunication in the secondary, just like last year
Dip**** "fans" we haven't seen in awhile showing up on X4 to run their suck. **** off
