last line from that link : McCarthy also confirmed the team had no issues about Lacy's weight, adding, "Going through the conditioning test, he was fine. If we had any concern about any guys they wouldn't be on the field."

And how many reps did he play Sunday?...

Well he weighed 200 pounds coming out of high school. 231 pounds at the combine. Who knows if he really weighs the 260 pounds cited by McGinn, but it is enough for concern. I was told by a well-known Packer beat-writer last year that some within the Packer organization did not want to draft Lacy because of the fear of him eating himself out of the league. heck even LeRoy Butler said that he needs to lose weight if he wanted to be an effective "3 down back". Lacy seems like a really good kid, who is never going to get in trouble. In addition he plays hard, no question about his effort or skill on the field. However his weight does appear to have the potential to diminish his career.

46 offensive plays...

From a snaps standpoint, Lacy got only eight fewer plays than James Starks,

28 for Starks

20 for Lacy

From McCarthy yesterday

  • (On Lacy) He's like whole football team. He's beat up. I don't see conditioning as an issue. James Starks is an outstanding running back. I don't want to run one guy 20 or 25 times. Running back position is extremely punishing. They take a lot of hits. Eddie has a bruising running style. I'm not concerned there. I like one-two punch.
  • (On decision Sunday [to start Starks]) Really always been the mindset. Something the way things worked out. With James on the first series is the product of how he was playing. He was playing well in San Francisco.

Thanks I was not sure. It was not a problem in the past, now it might be.

that's true, my mistake, but I thought that I read that he only carried three times and only got 4 yards!.

He is great in pass pro.

I expect Eddie to get more touches (even if he cannot touch his toes) after the bye week. Perhaps these questions will get the normally laid back Eddie really motivated.

Wow, could have just put him down humanely and draged his carcass off the field with a tractor.

He passed his conditioning test in August, practiced for 2 weeks at TC, played in 4 preseason games (with practice during the week), played in 6 games (with practice during the week), and rehabbed his ankle when he hasn't been practicing or in meetings...I definitely think he had time to gain 30 lbs and lose his conditioning, read between the lines man!

Oh my, it is so much worse than I thought. He weighs as much as a whole football team. That's like 13,000 pounds. Way(weigh?) too big to run through any holes.

Eddie plays fat.

My post ended up sounding like a slam on Eddie. I admit to being really torn on this. I don't condemn him for his weight per se. As others have pointed out Bettis played with a heaver weight. To me the weight gain is (perhaps) an indicator that he is not motivated. He is such a laid back kind of guy that I cannot tell about his internal drive. I do remember that one offseason he made up his mind to be a better receiver and then, sure enough he was. Also, being that heavy has its bad side health wise . I wish him the best and hope I am wrong. I wish him well and expect to see the real "Phat" Eddie when his ankle fully heals.

Go Pack!

I thought I had heard that this season Lacy had dedicated himself to finishing runs better.  Now, I don't know what steps he took to achieve that goal other than working on his dream board as he chowed down 10 bowls of Mac 'n Cheese, but that's gotta count for something.  Either way.... I'm glad we have him.  He's fun to watch, he takes pressure off the passing game, and he's usually a good closer.

Scouting Report: Eddie Lacy

Strengths: Good bubble; Can anchor against blitzers and has enough bulk to be durable and hold up at the point of attack. Can even take on defensive linemen without getting dominated.

Weaknesses: ...because he's a fat bastard.

Imagine if we had a RB that was built for the big game, like that kid from Alabama a few years ago. Or a guy that got better as the season wore on. Eddie needs to play on a cold weather team that makes the playoffs on a regular basis. Cause it's a long season and once late November, December, and January come, it gets cold and the snow starts falling...defensive backs don't like sticking their face into a fast moving freight train when it's 20 degrees. We need a guy like that.

Heal up Eddie, you're going to be busy the next few months.

PP, confusing post. Is Eddie's "down" play because he is fat, which is due to him not being motivated, OR, is it because he has a bad ankle?

i like PackDog's comment, he's a mudder - and that's what we will need to grind out some clock, he's a few lbs over, but its not a concern in my mind, except that he looks really fat in tight uniforms.  the bowling ball will roll.  i love me some 27.
