The real Joe Barry showed himself tonight, playing his defenders 4-6 yards back on a 4th and 2 with the season on the line. Really, that should be all MLF needed to see. Hopefully GB has a proven DC in 2023. Barry needs to go.

Rodgers at 39 is now this dude at 39 in cold, outdoor weather. To pretend he's not is just stupid. Father time remains undefeated. I'd love to see Rodgers call it a career, retire after June 1st, and just be done. Let the Love era commence.
Starting Nijman over Tom was also stupid. That's on MLF. Nijman's terrible play you can argue helped cost them this game.
It's been a great career for Mason. But in December, see Aaron Rodgers. See Favre. Can't do it anymore. Can't kick off. It's time Mason, it's time.

- This yearâs team reminds me a bit of the Forrest Gregg teams of the mid 1980s. They also had a QB slightly past his prime. They maybe were not as dirty as Greggâs players were, but every bit as dumb.
Those Gregg led teams would tease you a bit, but in the end they would be 8-8. They could beat up on the really bad teams, but when another team could punch them in mouth, they folded.

I don't doubt 12 gave it his all. He just doesn't have it anymore. His special attributes were his legs buying his arm time to find the open guy. Davante was keeping his elite status in a longer window than it deserved. It's time to move on. Hopefully someone is dumb enough to offer assets for him. Get what you can while you can and if he wants to play next year let him embarrass someone else's franchise in a desperate chase for a championship. That engine is burning smoke....

I know Iâm in the minority here, but Iâm curious to see if MLF can be successful with Love. I think he can. Thatâs not to defend his occasional dumbshit playcalling which definitely needs to improve, but Iâm curious to see his offense without AR.
BarryâĶ..probably needs to go, but heâs not the reason why the Packers seasons ended the last two seasons. 20 points tonight with the offense giving up the ball twice. That should be enough to win. Heâs been mind boggling bad for long stretches, but finished strong his first two seasons. I have a feeling heâll be back next season.
Biggest negative: I donât see Rodgers retiring. I donât know the salary cap implications or feasibility of trading him, but I think heâll be back next seasonâĶ..and I donât see it ending well. I also wonder if the young WRs are ready to play with and grow with a promising young QB while not having to worry about upsetting the old man former MVP. The offense looked solid in the very brief time that Love played against Philly.
Frustrating end to the season, but thatâs the case at the end of just about every seasonâĶ.except 2010 of course.

If he Retires and the Packers do it post June 1st, itâs a major cap hit but itâs not as crushing as youâd think.
Do I think he walks away from 55 million ? No. If itâs a trade, thereâs really just one team that I think would pull the trigger. The Raiders. Adams and Rodgers reunion. But Iâm not holding my breath that happens.
I'd like to see Love as well. Let's just rip the bandage off and see what he's got. Even if Rodgers is back, the ballsy move would be to go with Love. I know, I know, it would never happen, but it's kinda fun to think about. Heck, maybe it would hasten Rodgers' retirement.
At some point Love is going to tell the Packers to either play him or trade him. He doesnât have any leverage but he could become a big distraction if he wants.
After this game, I wouldn't blame Love for asking for a trade if they aren't going to play him. Unfortunately, the FO would most likely oblige him rather than get rid of a guy who's sliding downhill fast.
TBH They fell into a trap with AR because he was MVP for back-to-back seasons. They believed he had at least one more really good season in him, never thinking it may have been his swan song instead.
Positives
They fixed the special teams (one year too late)
Watson looks like a future Pro Bowler
The secondary has a lot of talented players (who were mostly misused by Joe Barry)
Negatives
Obviously, thinking the WRs they had going into the start of the season were good enough.
Trading Adams, but keeping Rodgers without trying to get a better veteran wideout than Sammy Watkins. Instead of going all-in or rebuilding, they tried to split the difference and ended up neither having a real chance to be a title team or starting a rebuild. Watson was MVS' replacement and he was an upgrade. They never came close to even replacing a quarter of Adam's production.
MLF looking like a deer in the headlights in what was basically another home playoff game.
But the underlying reason they are not in the playoffs is Joe Barry. Yes, Rodgers was at a B-/C+ level. Yes, the OL struggled at times. Yes, the WRs weren't good enough to really be a title contender, but in the end the defense got beat by a bunch of journeyman QBs all season. It took until they were almost eliminated from the playoffs to play an aggressive scheme with a top 5 DB group. And then, as soon as they thought they were safe again (playing the Lions at Lambeau), they reverted back to having Jaire Alexander play 8 yards deep on key passing downs. Joe Barry was scared that the guy that completely shut down Justin Jefferson couldn't cover Aman-Ra St. Brown or the other WRs the Lions ran out there?
If they even had Mike Pettine or Dom Capers with this group, they win at least 10 games. They'd still have lost in the first round of the playoffs, but Joe Barry is the biggest reason they didn't make the playoffs. All those first round picks, all those big money contracts, and to run a scheme like he did most of the year?
Of course, if Tua isn't concussed in Miami, the season would have been over two weeks ago. They were lighting them up in the first half of that game.
My fear is Joe Barry is back next year, because he's a buddy of MLF and MLF is more worried about being loyal to his friends (which helps these guys when they inevitably need to find their next job) than he is worried about maximizing their chances for winning games. He (and a lot of other coaches) would rather win 8-9 games and be well liked by their peers and staff than win 11-12 and have a reputation for being trigger-happy. I guess we all are like that to degree, but the great coaches make tough choices (I would bet Belichick will ditch Patricia by tomorrow morning, for example).
Yep, kept the wrong diva. Can you imagine Adams, Watson, Lazard and Doubs out there with the addition of a TE like Mayer?

edit: Hindsight is 20/20 but looking back it probably would have been wise to sit Rodgers a few games after his thumb injury in London.

He has the leverage that they traded up to get him and letting him walk is a clear indictment of everything 1265. In a perfect world, 12 would do the "right" thing and retire. We know he has $58m reasons to come back. Somebody's gotta make a decision on what is best for the organization. The longer they let that situation fester, the worse the outcome will be.
