Aaron Glenn is a no-nonsense guy like Mike Tomlin...he has no time for massaging egos. Tomlin has softened a bit over the years (welcoming the the DangerRuss circus to town) but this is AG's first job. He's gonna be the hardass he's always been. No room for and old dog on his squad.
I don't think it's unreasonable for an organization to ask that he remove himself from a side gig and attend all of training camp. And I don't think it's unreasonable that Rodgers says he still wants to do the side gigs. And that gives both of them an easy out.
I do like Glenn putting his foot down (reportedly) on Rodgers. It's been a very, very long time since anyone has done that. He should not be allowed to be bigger than the team. Of course, he doesn't see it that way.

Word.
It also sounds like AR was not willing to come to all the OTA's and offseason stuff either. And remember, he decided to take off to Egypt last summer during a mandatory minicamp session and that was considered an "unexcused" absence.
Teams will put up with a lot of shit when you perform at a high level. If this was an MVP version of Rodgers going into 2025, it'd be a very different tune from nearly every NFL team to tolerate the circus that is AR.
Now? At 41, as mobile as a tree, and with a massive ego to massage, Glenn and the Jets are not putting up with that shit.
I have achieved total apathy about Rodgers. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.
Iβve got that about many things.

I don't understand why the team had an issue with Rodgers doing an hour with Macafee. Many players have their own show they do on their day off. It has been going on as long as TV has been around.
Understandable why the team doesn't want to deal with AR's chronic case of diarrhea of the mouth.

That's just brutal. Ooof.

It's not like Denver when they added Peyton Manning won the SB...Denver was way closer to being a champion than the Jets ever were. That vaunted Jets defense we heard about stunk it up plenty throughout the last two seasons. He was also in his early 30's.
It was just a recipe for disaster from the jump for the Jets. Hope 12 retires...he has nothing left to prove. He's won MVP's and a Super Bowl...more than most guys who've played the position. Go do yoga, and wait for the knock in 5 years.
FWIW, Mark Taucher thinks AR will keep himself in pretty good shape, then await some dreaded QB injury from a winning team and come in on a white horse to save the season for __________ team in '25.
Not exactly a crazy idea. He'd get to skip all the OTA's, training camp, pre season and AR would eat up the media frenzy should he suddenly join the 49ers, Chiefs, Ravens, Lions, etc if that scenario would happen.
Jets won 2 more games in 2023 with Zach Wilson than they won in 2024 with Rodgers. He also got a head coach and GM fired. Not sure I could get past those when looking to sign Rodgers.

And he will be the only player in the NFL HOF to have accomplished that. AR is just building his resume. He should quit now while he still has a body left. At 40 years old it won't be looked at as "quitting", it will be looked at as "survival". Not everyone can be a "George Blanda".
Building or razing?

Building his resume? He's already a first ballot HOFer...maybe he just wants to win another Super Bowl.
Pikes Peak - a person can "build" it in a negative sort of way. I meant that to be sarcasm - sort of.
Chongo - or add another $20 mill to his savings account - just for good measure.

Morton Anderson kind of thinks you're being unrealistic.
Both missed a year. Anderson played for 24 years, Blanda for 25 years. Their careers span 25 and 26 years respectively.
I don't know of a longer career than Blanda's. If you know of a longer NFL career please let me know.

The unfortunate part is that let's say this happens. Team XYZ loses its QB in week 8, was on the way to making the playoffs pretty easily, and this is their window. They bring in Rodgers, who takes them to the conference championship game, where they lose a close one but Rodgers plays well. At that point, Rodgers' ego kicks in and he says he wants to play another year, and gee, it'd be great to do it with XYZ again. Then it becomes a nasty mess played out in the media again. I don't know a lot of coaches or GMs who want to take that chance.
Flacco took the Browns to the playoffs in 2023, and he says they never made an offer for 2024. Can you imagine Rodgers ending his career quietly like that? Yeah, me neither.
It wouldn't surprise me too much if no one signs him this year at all. He may be done but doesn't realize it yet.

If that scenario happened, a team needing a QB due to an injury, wouldnβt the team sign AR to a contract that only lasted until the end of the season?
If that were the case, AR could cry to McAfee all he wants about wanting to play another season. The team he played for wouldnβt have any obligation to him after the season was over.

I was listening to that exact same show. Wilde & Tausch
@ammo posted:He had plenty of chances to do that in Green Bay but was just not committed to it, especially in his later years.
Yeah, it was 12 shitting the bed vs SF on special teams and on defense vs Tampa. He also took a crowbar to Bakhβs knee on the eve of the NFC title game.
Winning back to back MVPβs just screams βnot committed.β
I'm thinking 2021 and 2022. We had the team but Rodg was too busy to come to minicamps, help younger players, and use his experience to lead the team. As for winning MVPs it was all about him, not the team.

Tom Brady didn't attend any of the Tampa minicamps and he won a Super Bowl.
Each team is different. Young Packers needed his leadership, if he had any.

Brady wins again!
The Jets.... be Jettin'.
