Exact same pick they used on another safety who now plays for a division rival. That player turned out to be a huge disappointment and I anticipate Savage will end up being a much better draft choice.

This dude is going to be so freaking special. I can't wait to see him play for the Green & Gold. Even more so considering we have a pass rush now, which will help our entire secondary.

Watching Savage key on plays, discern exactly what is about to happen, then burst to the apex (run or pass) is pretty damn fun to watch, and knowing he'll be doing that with Amos, King, Alexander, Jackson, Brown, Hollman and Jones alongside is going be about as effective as it gets in a defensive backfield. There is no quit in him. A complete student of the game on the level of Blake Martinez, and an extremely intelligent, hard working player who LOVES to play football.

Darnell Savage added to this team is going to make for a serious group of ball hawks.

Good article on the D and Josh Jones

I agree with the article that there would be playing time for JJ.  Disagree with the article that Gary is a DE, he has been playing OLB in OTAs - in a similar role as the Smith brothers.  The authors preference for a true DE shows why he projects him there and ignores OTA reports.  Also, the author has evidently missed all the reports that talk about the disruption part of the defense.  That means when an opposing offense comes to the LOS they will probably be looking at something they did not expect.  That translates into different player packages and alignments that will blurr the traditional 3-4 or 4-3 looks - which his article takes as absolutes.  And I would not be overlooking Keke as the year goes along.  As for JJ he has a lot of good things going for him except his head.  If he gets that figured out he will be a good player - IMO.  In that respect Amos is better than JJ.  JMO.

Seeing a Safety actually break on a ball was a nice change from years of watching HHCD, Burnett, MD Jennings, etc. all just kind of trail receivers, wait for them to catch, and then make/miss the tackle. I expect Savage will blow some plays with his aggressive style, Nick Collins did, but he will make up for them with big plays, like Collins did.
