Love the Lacy pick. Didn't think he was a 1st rounder, turns out no one else did either, and I didn't see him getting to 55. Classic Thompson to move down and still get him at 61.

Thing about RBs in today's NFL, they are no longer a premium position so I see this as a rookie deal only kind of player and they'll move on with another draftee when Lacy moves on. If he performs well someone will give him big FA $$ on his second contract, but it won't be the Packers, IMO, JMHO, IMHO.
Some more insight into why GM's didn't seem to value the RB position...from "Football Focus"...RB's are the riskiest group to draft:

Positional Trends

Of particular interest given the projections for the first round of the 2013 draft, offensive tackles have proven to be some of the safest selections in recent years with 22 taken and 16 being handed hit status. Seven of the eight selected in the Top 10 are panning out β€” the lone Top-10 tackle miss: Baylor’s Jason Smith going to the Rams in 2009.

The offensive tackle tally accounts for the hit/miss edge we’ve seen overall. The remaining positions contribute to a straight 50-50 split. The following table breaks down the hits and misses in each third of the round (Picks 1-10, etc.) and provides totals per position β€” these include the early hits and misses from the 2011 and 2012 classes. Note the interior defender splits in each section of the round as we head into a draft with a number of players set to play there in the NFL.

I think part of that miss ratio is the depth of the RB position in that it's easier for a low round RB or even a free agent to beat out the top competition than it is with the big bodies.

There is not much good about being a RB in the NFL these days. They take all the punishment and don't get paid as much for it. Add in that defenders are bigger and faster than ever and RBs I don't think see the same benefits from all the chemicals the rest of the guys are on. They get a bigger blocker in front of them but at the end of the day they're getting tackled if they're not running out of bounds (which is harder to get to now).

True, but during the playoffs, Starks got probably 2/3 of the carries while the other 2 guys were reduced to more supporting roles.

Back to Lacy, really the only concern I have is that 'Bama's O-Line is just so talented it makes RBs look better than they really are. That said, I was impressesd with the jukes Lacy put on ND defenders in the national title game. A big guy with some quicks should be a nice addition to the Pack's backfield. Maybe a younger version of C. Benson?

Man I remember when Kuhn and BJunk were considered a decent combo at RB on this forum...

They were and time marches on and players get older. You've been hanging out with Purple Truther again haven't you?
