Thanks!
I guess that means we won't be picking up Jacobs!?!

#Packers have ranked 23rd, 21st, 17th, 14th, 24th, 27th and 20th in rushing under Mike McCarthy. Thatβs an average of 21st. Should change.

My bad.

They were probably paid like it, too.
FWIW, Brandon Jackson was the 63rd pick.
WE GOT A RUNNING BACK!

Amen
Draft Value calculator says Packers come out ahead in the trade down. The picks they received (#61 and #173) are worth 112% of the one they gave up (#55).

Paid like you were already there too, right Eddy? Nothing like having to take a paycut because you've left the $EC for the NFL.

you must be a systems/business analyst....
Would be nice to turn 3rd and 1 into a running play in Green Bay. Gonna need a center and another tackle or guard to make that a reality.
Just hoping this was another lap trap by TT.
Hey Rusty, you screwed us out of a 5th round pick.
Yea dick. Good thing you don't teach kids how to count.
I think one of the great things about this pick is that he has the potential to be a stud RB, but he won't have to be counted on to run the ball 20+ times/game.
LT says Lacy is the best fit for a rookie runnning back.
I really like the Lacy pick. That said, I wonder if TT had any thoughts of going after Chris Ivory. Jets grabbed him from the Saints for a 4th. I think Ivory is actually a similar type of runner as Lacey. Both are about 6', 220-225 lbs. and running with power. I really like Ivory - the guy's a beast.
Love the talent, hate his history of being brittle.

But not lower his head... That's illegal.
Love the Lacy pick. Didn't think he was a 1st rounder, turns out no one else did either, and I didn't see him getting to 55. Classic Thompson to move down and still get him at 61.
Thing about RBs in today's NFL, they are no longer a premium position so I see this as a rookie deal only kind of player and they'll move on with another draftee when Lacy moves on. If he performs well someone will give him big FA $$ on his second contract, but it won't be the Packers, IMO, JMHO, IMHO.

Man I remember when Kuhn and BJunk were considered a decent combo at RB on this forum...
I remember when Craig Newsome was a good cornerback and Brett Favre was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Time moves on.
as i recall, they did win a super bowl with kuhn and jackson
They also won a SB with Frank Zombo and Erik Walden.
Some more insight into why GM's didn't seem to value the RB position...from "Football Focus"...RB's are the riskiest group to draft:
Positional Trends
Of particular interest given the projections for the first round of the 2013 draft, offensive tackles have proven to be some of the safest selections in recent years with 22 taken and 16 being handed hit status. Seven of the eight selected in the Top 10 are panning out β the lone Top-10 tackle miss: Baylorβs Jason Smith going to the Rams in 2009.
The offensive tackle tally accounts for the hit/miss edge weβve seen overall. The remaining positions contribute to a straight 50-50 split. The following table breaks down the hits and misses in each third of the round (Picks 1-10, etc.) and provides totals per position β these include the early hits and misses from the 2011 and 2012 classes. Note the interior defender splits in each section of the round as we head into a draft with a number of players set to play there in the NFL.

I think part of that miss ratio is the depth of the RB position in that it's easier for a low round RB or even a free agent to beat out the top competition than it is with the big bodies.
There is not much good about being a RB in the NFL these days. They take all the punishment and don't get paid as much for it. Add in that defenders are bigger and faster than ever and RBs I don't think see the same benefits from all the chemicals the rest of the guys are on. They get a bigger blocker in front of them but at the end of the day they're getting tackled if they're not running out of bounds (which is harder to get to now).

True, but during the playoffs, Starks got probably 2/3 of the carries while the other 2 guys were reduced to more supporting roles.
Back to Lacy, really the only concern I have is that 'Bama's O-Line is just so talented it makes RBs look better than they really are. That said, I was impressesd with the jukes Lacy put on ND defenders in the national title game. A big guy with some quicks should be a nice addition to the Pack's backfield. Maybe a younger version of C. Benson?
quote:The Packers incredibly haven't had a 100-yard rusher in a regular-season game since Week 5 of the 2010 season, when the forgettable Brandon Jackson did it. That's a 43-game drought, the longest in the NFL.
Sad stat. Did the Subset of 10 know about this?
just watched a bunch of highlights, he has really quick feet and hits the hole hard, but has vision...he can juke and twist and he's fast - we haven't had this since Ahman
Also seems to break a lot of tackles

They were and time marches on and players get older. You've been hanging out with Purple Truther again haven't you?

Which is why TT keeps the pump primed and young talent constantly coming in. Get 'em while their hot and keep them if they are consistent.

I was thinking the same thing. I just didn't see many holes created by the oline.
Perhaps TT can get some good oline help today.

Yeah, there is something wrong with the Packers that there are so many injuries and now they get a guy that has an injury history. This is a scary prospect. I hope Lacy can stay healthy.
