When Gute spoke at the Combine, he was asked about Bakh and his answer was that he'd like an answer on that before the 1st day of the league year. Reasonable response

If Gute was going to cut David, he doesn't need to wait for an answer does he ?

Maybe the ball is in Bakh's court

Really, I do not know what other option GB realistically has. If in fact, it will not be known until mid July whether is knee is even capable of holding up in TC much less an NFL season, the Packers need to move on and cut him. If by some miracle he can come back to playing in the NFL, guessing it's with the Jets on a league min deal with a lot of incentives. Otherwise, his career is probably done.

Play until you can't anymore,  and then play another year if you can find anyone to pay you.   Love Bak like everyone else,  but it's time for someone else to pay him.  Just be careful with that knee.  With his size and personality,  I could see him having a decent career in the wras'ln industry.

I think the only thing that matters between now and July is the cap space.
The Packers can re-structure this week and then if he doesn't respond, cut him in August with no negative hits to the salary cap. Easy peasy

I've been reading the articles from his MD, Brian Cole. Fascinating stuff in terms of the innovative treatments for Bakh's knee inflammation issues.
Its not an ACL concern per the previous reports, so that's encouraging

Packers really don't need to know until August and their interest in drafting an OT doesn't hinge on Bakh's availability. That would be silly

Gute said over & over he wants competition in every room. So who is providing competition for Rasheed Walker ? Right now, nobody.

Packers need another OT regardless of Dave's timeline. And even if Bakh is cleared and he plays at an elite level, GB will likely practice load management. That means Walker and draftees are getting lots of reps to refine their craft

Good news is that we'll get an answer on the $$ this week and then our long national nightmare will be over.  Tampering starts on Monday and Gute will want his magazine locked and loaded.

Gute still uses the honorary Thompson machine gun in FA, a nod to the steely eyed assassin who taught him so well.

Doesn't work that way. A restructure turns salary, which is paid during the season, into a signing bonus, which is paid immediately.  If cash is paid immediately, you can't cut him in August with no negative cap implications because you've already paid the cash. It's why players are fine with restructuring - they get cash today instead of September-December.

CU - we're looking at this differently

You're thinking about pushing the $20M salary out and I'm talking about making $16M -18M of that salary go away. My mistake was in saying
re-structure instead of re-negotiate.
Bakh isn't getting that $20M in non-guaranteed salary, and both he and his agent know that. Gute would just say, hit the bricks at that number.

The offer will most likely be a low base salary and a ton of NLTBE bonuses based on playing time. Then he doesn't earn any salary unless he is on the 53 opening weekend, so July and August become a no- cost tryout. And because the salary is low, any injury settlement is manageable.

Ah ok, my mistake.  You're right, i saw restructure which lead me down that road.

Totally agree - only way he's on the roster is through those NLTB.  I just don't see any other possible way it works. Bakh just had to agree to it.

True, but perhaps it will affect their ability to sign new free agents on June 13th.

What a hell of a player for such a long time. Thanks Bahk for all the amazing memories and top level play.

That tweet almost sounds like a retirement post, but I am guessing he's still holding out hope he can squeeze out a little more from his career.
