i think this one could backfire on gutes.  33 was a force and on that turf, he has the chance to break records, vikings have a decent OL, but...no qb - so we will key on 33...

So, he can run for 1400 yards on a 5-12 team? If he stays healthy which is very unlikely.

He's never been a workhorse back, but he'd have been great playing for someone like the Chiefs as a veteran guy getting 3-4 million a year.

Rosenhaus had better start doing some damage control if AJ went to the Vikings for 1 million more than what the Packers offered.

If true, Iā€™d fire Rosenhaus immediately if I were AJ.

Rosenhaus is just doing what AJ wants him to do - get him the most money possible.

AJ could have told Rosenhaus to get him the most money possible with Green Bay and sign that no matter what.

After that, AJ could have told Rosenhaus yesterday to get him to a winning team. There is no team out there that wouldn't give 3-4 million a year - Chiefs, Cowboys, Texans, Chargers, and Bills all need RBs.

AJ wanted maximum dollars this contract as it's probably the last one he gets. Many people do this in our professional careers all the time - leave a good situation for one that pays more money.

Just so Jones doesn't want sympathy for how this played out.

Thanks for the details. Surprised the Pack didn't offer more in incentives to bring it up to $8M POTENTIALLY.

For anyone, but especially a 30 year old RB who is going to get hit hard 10-15 times a game, the key is the guaranteed money and there was 2 million dollars difference. He literally got hurt the first game in 2023 and it took 2 months for him to get back to being somewhat normal.

The reason he was so good at the end of the season and in the playoffs is because he had about nine games rest....

I Love the guy  and I hate the business side of football but he wasn't willing to meet the Packers price. So he went on the open market and found a million and a half more. So be it.

Anybody that thinks he was going to make it through a 17 game schedule, plus probably two or three more games in the playoffs is just kidding themselves if they think he was going to make it the entire year

Aaron Jones contract details, per source:

Original GB deal: $11M base, $1M incentives

Final GB offer: Little less than $4M base, $2M incentives

Vikings: $6M base, $1M incentives

Jones wanted to retire in GB but didn't want to take another hometown discount of that magnitude.

Looking at the final #s, I can now see why Aaron Jones said no thanks.

Gutey got his preferred RB replacement in Jacobs (plus hopefully someone will be added in the upcoming draft).

Only time will tell whether it was a wise decision or not.

Packer fans should have known this was going to happen. Gutey tried to replace AJ last year with Jonathan Taylor. The last four games of this past year may have been the best four game span of Jones career because of what they meant.  They were special and probably why we are emotional about it. If those 4 games don't happen, most of these comments are not being posted.

Sounds to me like Drew Rosenhaus shopped the Packers final offer around behind the scenes, Vikings thought they'd be cute and beat it in an effort to jam the Packers, Jones thought the Packers would match to keep him, and Gutekunst let the market know his final offer is his final offer. Can't let the agents know you can be worked on final offers. Jones made his choice. Great back, great guy, but business is business. He sure doesn't seem excited about his new opportunity.

So, another player jerked around by his agent.

Jones wanted the most money and Drew arranged it for him. Seems to me like he did what was asked of him. 29 year old RBs can choose the most money or choose staying with the same team, but I can't think of many that got both.

It's comical to me the Vikings will commit $6M (+$1M in options) moreso to try to hurt the Packers than actually wanting the player. Great way to team build. 33 should help them win an extra game or two and stay away from the top picks of the 25 draft.

Source?

I know Rosenhaus is a master at self-promotion.

But you donā€™t last in that business as long as he has, and as successfully, if youā€™re not doing what your clients want and getting the outcomes theyā€™ve agreed to.

All this talk about how R. screwed Jones doesnā€™t make a lot of sense to me. I think both they, and Green Bay, knew exactly what either side would accept and they both chose to walk away from it.

Does anyone think this will be Jonesy's last year in the NFL?? Raise your hand āœ‹šŸ¼

The guys this morning on Sirius mentioned something interesting....Jacobs has about 200 MORE carries than Aaron Jones even though he's 3 years younger. Going to guess some of that is due to injury.

I wasn't too excited about him going to a division rival, either. I thought he would have been a better fit in Houston, but that's just my opinion. Now, I worry about that turf, in viking land, destroying his knees and ending his career. Oh well, that's on the vikings, now. If I were a betting man, I'd bet  Jones doesn't get past week 7 without sustaining a turf injury, of some sort. I'd hate to see it happen to Jones, but  would love seeing it happen, to the vikings. Fricking poachers!

Jones has always had durability concerns.  The coaches have been limiting his carries for nearly his entire career (at least that's the way I remember it).  It's great when he's playing but that can't be counted on consistently. Now you add in his age (nearing 30) and there are more injury concerns.

We couldn't keep paying him top money for that.  The salary that GB was offering was somewhere in the middle and that's fair IMO.  In fact, when he hit the market he got close to what GB offered.  Nobody was willing to pay him what he was making previously.

I loved seeing him play and will miss seeing him in GB.   However, this is the reality of things.
