I don't think Kenny Clark will be much better in 2020 because he was already damn good in 2019 without much help and I don't foresee him getting much help in 2020 either.

Keke is still young and has not gotten his shot, so I can understand at least hoping he improves the DL play in 2020.

But did young player Montravious Adams get better in year 3 (2019) or worse?

Did young player Tyler Lancaster get better in year 2 (2019) or worse?

Did 4th year player (in 2019) Dean Lowry get better or worse?

I look at the DL and see a former 3rd round pick who has never produced over his 3 seasons in GB in Adams, an UDFA who was never projected to be much of a player and has not been much of a player in his 2 seasons in GB in Lancaster, and a now 5th year player who had ZERO sacks while consistently getting washed out in the run in 2019 in Lowry.

Are folks really optimistic this trio is going to be better in 2020 than they were in 2019?

I think the fact that Gutey recently made waivers claims on Gerald Willis and Jamal Davis and just signed Treyvon Hester is a pretty good indicator of just how confident they are in seeing "improvement" among the incumbents along the DL.

Not very.

I think Clark can and will be better. He's not even 25 years old yet and those bigger guys tend to age quite well. His trajectory is up.

Keke may be better. I would expect him to be in his 2nd year, but you never know. He played fewer than 100 snaps as a rookie.

I think Adams got marginally better. He was hurt and missed a couple games but the improvement, such as there was any, was not great. he will either be better this pre-season or probably gone if he doesn't show that trajectory upward.

I think Lancaster absolutely was better year over year. His problem is he doesn't have the upside ability to be more than a plugger.

Lowry was less impactful this past season. I don't know if that was by role or a fall off in play. He seemed to be the same type of guy, another plugger like Lancaster so those guys are harder to judge because they have don't have glamorous jobs. I'd love to see an upgrade at his position.

And I do think the DL will be better, barring injury. They are all pretty young guys and, as I said before, the bigger guys take longer. The keys are Keke and Adams. If they are both pot smoking fucktards then it's going to be tough. But hopefully they are growing up a little and growing into their bodies.

The biggest factor is injury. If Clark misses 8 games, Lowry 5 , etc., there is no way they will be better. Same applies to each position group. This is what makes improving this season a daunting task. We were 5th in "least games lost by starters" last season .... and that includes Lane Taylor, whose loss ended up "addition by subtraction".

Injuries are a crap shoot. Simply talking about skill year over year. A player can still be better than the previous year even if they miss time to injury.

It seems a little suspicious that Rodgers is doing a presser now. I mean, it's not like he can say, "Practice is going well. Love has talant, but I'm better. I like Dillon." Unless he's going to up and announce... nah, I won't say it. It just seems a little weird, especially with MLF speaking shortly thereafter.

Or maybe it's the best way to shut down all the dumbfuck "hot takes".

Packers have been doing offseason meetings and workout protocols (all remotely, per league guidance) since a week ago Monday. Sort of like an OTA. I suspect this is why both 12 and MLF are being made available to the media today.

Plus 12 has to address the Jordan Love issue publicly at some point else other players and team officials are stuck with answering for him.

So I wouldn’t read anything nefarious in his doing media today.

Well...you're hardly alone in that sentiment...the bulk of the NFL media tend to agree with you.

However, they don't run the Packers' draft any more than we do. I'm willing to give the front office props for bucking popular opinion, and going with their own plan.

Same here.  If you are running a team or coaching a team you cannot bend to popular opinion.  A wise coach once said if you listen to the fans you will be sitting with them before long.

It was a perfect draft for making Aaron realize he's not finishing his career in Green Bay:

"I think it was more the surprise of the pick based on my own feelings of wanting to play into my 40s and the realization that it does change the controllables because as much as I feel confident in my abilities and what I can accomplish and what we can accomplish, there are some new factors that are out of my control and my sincere desire to start and finish with the same organization . . . may not be a reality at this point . . . I still believe in myself and have a strong desire to play into my 40s and I'm just not sure how that all works together at this point."

The only question now is when will the Packers change starters.

Scorched earth from Aaron's conference call:

Aaron surprised by Love pick.

Realizes he may end up playing elsewhere in future.

Buds with Favre has good relationships with all his backup QBs.

Lazard is an ascending player.

Guys are doing Zoom calls daily and personal workouts.

Likens this to 2011 lockout season, guys will be rested but ready.

No fireworks of F-bombs. but he did suggest someone should mute all the beeps on the call.

I think the only time I’ve been actually pissed off on the Packers Draft was the passing on TJ Watt. It’s the draft equivalent of the ‘14 NFCC Game. Had it, it was there, and then that helpless feeling after. Then watching Biegel get his career on track in MIA just pours salt in the wound. The only thing left is King, who could still be great. But I feel my teeth grit every time I see TJ Watt on the highlight reel.

Aaron’s press conference actually kind of made me sad and actually kind of changed my perspective on the Love pick. I was critical of John Elway a few years back when he mortgaged the future to win a SB in the short term, but I’m worried Gute is going too far in the other direction...ignoring the short term to plan for the future. Sounds nice to say Love could keep GB in the hunt for the next 15 years, but he could also easily be DeShone Kizer. Rodgers is a top 10 QB and its more likely he will be for another 5 years than Love will be Patrick Mahomes, why not ride that out? Figure it out when it’s time to figure it out, there will be another journeyman 35 year old QB we could find to train a rookie QB. Rodgers wants to be here until he’s done and it doesn’t sound like he will he done in 3 years when it’s time to for Love to take over. Kind of feels like when they started pushing Favre out except this time around Rodgers doesn’t deserve it like a Favre did. It makes business sense, but I don’t love the way they’ve handled things with Rodgers, CM3, even going back to Woodson.

The thing that none of us know is what really goes on. At the time no one knew that in Favre's last game he was uncommunicative at halftime and acted like he didn't want to play, which prompted MM to say; "if he wasn't Brett Favre I'd pull him". TT took the hit, but MM didn't want to coach Fave anymore. I hated the Love pick, but McGinn could be right, AR may have not made the reads, changed plays, stayed with game plan that LaFeur wanted.....I really hope not as I've always been an AR fan, but it is possible, we just don't know.

My guess is Rodgers' injury history, as well as his recent play, factors in to the Love pick.  And I'm not sure many GMs are willing to just "ride it out" rather than trying to (i) improve their team & (ii) keep their job.
