Teddy, do not draft any former safeties, basketball players or short stops and expect them to play corner for us. In fact, if a player has so much as touched a round ball, they should be banned from playing corner for the Green Bay Packers.

So let's say Marlon Humphrey scratches his fruit bag every morning. Does that count?

Small schools/ out of position/different sports- TT does this  because these guys have the measurables to run and twitch with the Julio Jones types. Football playing supermen are gone by time the Packers pick. Deion Sanders is not available. The "average" NFL corner (who was drafted fairly high from a major program) is getting eaten alive by elite receivers.

Maybe, just maybe the guy will develop into something special. Nick Collins was overdrafted. He worked out OK. Sam Shields did too.

See Sherman, Richard.

Um, very few of the best CBs in the league right now were first-round picks, so your claim none of those guys are around when the Packers pick lacks validity.

Rosendale?  no chit?  population 1,063.  wow.

563 of those residents are traffic cops.

I'm going down to Rosendale, got my radar on my dash.

If the traffic cops don't like it, you know they can kiss my ass.

Up for debate.

They probably will. Business ain't what it used to be for the Rosendale cops.

Ian Rappaport is reporting Ted will be more active, but this is also the guy that said we could see Ted step aside this spring. Take it for what you will.

I will say that the certain cuts of of Shields and Starks will add $11M to the pool he likely wasn't planning on. Pay cuts for Cobb and Matthews are a long shot, but could possibly add even more wiggle room. Couple this new found flexibility with the fact that the team has few actual "must resigns" in FA over the next two offseasons, there's maybe more of a case for a deeper dive in FA this year.

Just don't hold your breath waiting for Ted to wait in any driveways on midnight of free agency.

Ian Rappaport (whose initials = IR, just saying .....) reports Ted will be more active and states his reasons, then at the he says more than likely he will do what he always does.  The headline sells - the conclusion is nothing is changed.  Yawn!  I don't think Shields will be back so we should invest at CB.  Then draft one too.  Make those hot shot CBs we played this year earn their roster spots.

And yes, I think I hear this every year.  I also hear we will trade ......, that TT will do this or that in the draft, etc.  May be we should call them "noacticles" - which means "no action articles".

Expectations need to be tempered, in the past Ted has pursued free agents where he doesn't have youth with upside, he doesn't think he can get a rookie replacement, and the player won't command a monster investment. He pursued Jared Cook when it became obvious Rodgers had limited upside and the draft was relatively weak at TE. He pursued Peppers when Matthews was struggling with injuries and there were no options on the team or where they would pick in the draft. He got Woodson when Ahmad Carroll was our #2 and the draft looked pretty light at CB.

Where are we heading in to 2017?

  • Same situation at TE meaning he will likely pursue Cook.
  • RB to some degree despite Monty's presence. There's no feature back, so if he doesn't re-sign Lacy and doesn't pursue FA's then I'm guessing he likes what he sees in the draft at RB. It's a good RB draft, so I wouldn't surprised to see that position picked early.
  • On OL I think they will re-sign Lang and go with what they have. Perhaps they could bring in another experienced player to compete with Taylor, but more likely is they look for a replacement for Lang in the mid-rounds of the draft. Definitely some TJ Lang-esque guys in this draft.
  • CB has 3 good, young prospects who are still developing. I won't be surprised if he doesn't pursue any FA's, but uses another high pick on a CB. I'm guessing Hyde is re-signed also. It's a good group of CBs in the draft, there will be someone at 29 for us or even later.
  • OLB has 30+ yr old CM3 and Kyler Fackrell under contract. Jayrone is an RFA, he will likely get the low tender which will be dicey as another team may pursue him. I'm betting Datone is re-signed for a low, 2 year deal. Perry may get re-signed if he doesn't price himself out of GB. I could see them pursuing another veteran FA, but I'm not sure who that is. I don't love the pass rushers in this draft that will likely be available for us, no one I could see stepping in Day 1 and contributing heavily. If he doesn't re-sign Perry then I think he pursues a UFA or trade.
  • DL have no departures other than Christian Ringo as a ERFA. Daniels, Guion, Lowry, and Clark all played well. Can't see them pursuing an FA, but probably another big to add some depth. There are some good rotational players in this draft IMO, several good bigs.

Unless he's going full tendency break, I don't think he's really active in FA. Maybe to improve some depth, but he's not going all-in on 1 or 2 players.

Packers reloading?   I wonder if TT will be more inclined to use free agency now that his time as GM may be winding down and with Rodgers still in his prime but not getting any younger.  The window is still open but maybe slowly closing.  TT to go all in?  Not so sure.

Seriously though, if TT does go after sexy, expensive free agents it is not because he is desperate. It will be a paradigm shift for him, because in TT's mind, expensive free agents will make his team worse, not better.

"He pursued Peppers when Matthews was struggling with injuries"

He pursued Peppers when it wouldn't cost him a comp pick.   Can't add vet leadership at the expense of a 6th rounder ya know.

"he pursued Jared Cook when it became obvious Rodgers had limited upside and the draft was relatively weak at TE."

2nd verse, same as the 1rst

There are always needs, the key is can he get a FA without it costing in the comp pick equation.  That's when Ted is willing to play, otherwise, he simply hasn't shown any interest.

Ted's going to have to break rank and get Trumaine, Bouye, or possibly Gilmore as a FA. Draft Takk McKinley in round 1. Fire Dom and Moss. I can't believe I keep coming back to Rex Ryan bringing his brand of 3-4 mayhem to GB but I'm scared ****less it will be business as usual and we're having this same discussion again in 365 days. Ted has to get outside his comfort zone. One good edge rusher or CB isn't going to put GB into cap hell. IMO GB is one good edge rusher or CB with coaching away from a defense that should be able to slow down an offense enough for Aaron to get Green Bay back to the Super Bowl.

And Dom Capers sucks.

If Teds steps up and goes ALL IN on Bouye, I will be impressed, otherwise, I'm sure it will be a few relatively minor(but breaking the bank in Ted's world), FA signings as usual...Just ONCE i would love to hear the Packers signing someone at 12:05 am..Two things will happen here the way I see it...1. Ted will get in contact with someone early and set up a visit, said visit will occur and then Ted will let them get out of Green Bay and within a day or two they will sign somewhere else(ie he will drag his feet, sweating profusely thinking about the $$ he might have to spend...oh the horror). 2. He will once again wait until a few weeks into FA when bargain prices are robust and Ted gets all excited..THEN he will sign someone. Basically, nothing to see here..it won't be anyone major I'm sure. *sigh*

Spend the money, as the Giants did, on the defense. Worry about cap problems after the 2019 season, when AR will be in the twilight of his career. The time is now.

So, the same Giants team we knocked out of the playoffs? That's your example?

The defense is what got the Giants to that point. Their offense was mediocre.

Did you watch that game? The drops by the Giants swung that game.

The traffic cops in Rosendale are less predictable than TT

While I expect he will probably make some moves like resigning Lang and Cook and maybe Perry I have zero expectations that he will sign a big dollar CB or OLB or DL.  That's just not what he does and he's not going to deviate now.

It's no different than Dom Capers but the difference is that unlike TT the other guy hasn't delivered on his end.   It's amazing to me how people continue to give the guy a pass.  Why?  2010?  That team D had incredible talent and why should it have to take 5-6 Pro Bowlers on D to win a Super Bowl?   Woodson and Collins and Raji and Shields aren't walking through the door but the D is good enough with this offense to win and win big.

Allowing 30 PPG in the playoffs is what Dom's D has become and it shouldn't have to take a perfect effort from Rodgers to win playoff games.

Turn the page on Dom already

Nope, missed the game. I never watch Packers games. I leave it to simple fans who fail to realize that if you blow your wad on defense you leave the offense exposed...like the Giants???
