Regarding Pro Bowl level WRS, how many maintain that level (let alone improve) when they move on to a new team? So much of their success is timing with the QB and understanding route concepts that it's hard to be successful without a couple of training camps and a lot of reps.

The main ones I can think of are Terrell Owens, Jerry Rice with the Raiders, and Randy Moss (the Patriot version, not the Oakland version). Moss and Owens were physical freaks who didn't have to run precise routes to get open. Rice was probably the G.O.A.T.

For every one of those there are a lot of Greg Jennings, Mike Wallace, Alvin Harper types out there.

Translation #1 - Jed York is nucckin futts.

Translation #2 - Thanks for the trip to San Fran. Wife really enjoyed it.

Translation #3 - I didn't really want the job, since they never offered it to me.

Translation #4 - Thanks for the leverage.

Da hell kind of a name is that?

Gutekunst was born on July 19, 1973 in Raleigh, North Carolina.[1] His father, John Gutekunst, was the head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. Gutekunst attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. During his time there, he played on the football team before suffering a career-ending shoulder injury. Afterwards, he served as an assistant coach with the team, including during their 1995 National Championship season. He is married with four children.

According to McGinn :

Sources said Eliot Wolf, the team’s director of football operations, pulled out of the running for the vacant general manager’s position in San Francisco when it became apparent that he wasn’t going to be hired.

“It’s been Gutekunst for two weeks,” said one source close to the 49ers’ search. “He killed that interview. The owner says he’s Scot McCloughan without the drinking problem.”

McCloughan is regarded by Ron Wolf and others in the personnel field as being an extraordinary evaluator of talent.

Gutekunst served as a scouting assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1998 before Ron Wolf hired him as a college scout in ’99.

In the event of Gutekunst’s departure, the Packers would lean even more heavily on Alonzo Highsmith, their senior personnel executive, and Jon-Eric Sullivan, their director of college scouting.

There also has been speculation that Baalke, who was fired at the end of the season, could join Thompson in Green Bay. They’re close friends, and Baalke grew up in Rosendale, Wis.

Oh wait, that's Rick Derringer

Saw Derringer in '76 open for Aerosmith at the Arena. IIRC he played that song with gloves on.

Shared a stage with him in GB when he was fronting The McCoys.
Our local band was hired to back Bobby Vee and Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon on the same bill.
Great kid and he was playing his ass off at age 16.

Jennings turned into a pouty bitch loudmouth diva and needed to be shown the door after Ted's offer insulted him.

He was 29 when he left GB. He easily had 2-3 more productive years in GB if he didn't go nutjob on everyone.

Didn't he play for less than TT's contract offer at Minnesota? I believe he did. Nut job, for sure!

Accept he didn't because of the injuries.  He was injured off and on in his last couple years in GB which turned out to be more than an anomaly.

That crack about Scot is going to come back and bite York in the ass. There is a story circulating that someone in SF asked Chicago for permission to interview Vic Fangio for the D coordinator position in SF. Chicago allegedly told SF no.

Maybe Shanahan asked someone in SF to ask Chicago? Even so, York has managed to butcher this beyond belief. What a mess.
