And put them out of the playoffs in the blink of an eye.

I think it proves the opposite.
A HOF QB, Favre, can take an average team with a terrible coach to the brink of the SB in just two years.
Tomatoe, tomato. Disagree to disagree then I guess.
McCarthy should have benched Favre in '08 v the Giants. Somewhat inexperienced HC took a loose cannon, narcissistic QB and got him to study film like he hadn't in years (Favre's words) during the '07 season, one of Favre's best.
I'd be on board with Dorsey in a big hurry. That guy is a talent evaluating draft wizard. He's killing it in KC with his picks. He's (allegedly) the guy responsible for convincing Ted to select AR and Clay. Which pretty much makes him responsible for Hawk and Justin Harrell, whatever. I'm a big Dorsey fan.

Be VERY selective in FA & find the bargains
Or use a ton of FA like the Patriots do.....
The real key is get a HOF level QB and then everything else you do doesn't really matter.
- A DVD collection of all 31 teams with hand signals & down & distance
- "Proper" (in)deflation of footballs
- Jamming headsets of opposing teams so they can't communicate
- Placing a 2nd speaker in Tom Brady's helmet so he can continue to communicate with his QB after the "cutoff" (15 seconds before snap) Cheaty Petey did this too with Russell Wilson
- Spying on other teams to find out their new unscouted plays up to & including the Super Bowl vs. Carolina
TT, Russ Ball & the boys have a finite amount of cash for FA's & TT picks & chooses wisely. (Woodson, Pickett, Peppers) Also....Sometimes players simply don't want to play for Green Bay. They would rather be in NY or LA or a lot of other places including Foxboro, MA. I like the way the Packers approach FA. Steady as she goes.
Great post. I like the way TT and the Packers operate as well.
My point was the success in GB is mostly due to the HOF QB, not TT's system.
Just like the success in New England is mostly due to Tom Brady, not Billy B's sneaky tricks or his FA strategy.

A MOTIVATED HOF QB, Favre, can take an average team with a terrible coach to the brink of the SB in just two years.
Let's face it, Favre's hatred for MM/TT and the Packers are what drove him to the success in his first year in Minnesota. He wanted to show them up, plain and simple. Give him credit, he played like a HOF QB that year - 33 TDs/7 interceptions in the regular season. He knew he had a team with a shot and he played smart all year - and then he gloriously shot it all to hell with the cross-body heave against the Saints at the end of regulation.
The other two post-Packer years, he knew he had no chance for a Super Bowl ring and was just the good-old-boy having fun out there and collecting a paycheck for the extended Favre clan (33 TDs, 41 ints). Favre in those 2 years threw more interceptions than Rodgers has thrown since the Super Bowl win (40).
I agree. If Rodgers or Brady played in Cleveland they would still be successful although maybe not quite AS successful. They would both be the Archie Mannings of their era.
It's the ultimate team sport but having a HOF QB covers many issues
Dorsey would basically be the ideal candidate to replace Thompson. He has the experience as well as the familiarity to step in.
Belichick had a HOF QB (Kosar) when he was coach of the Browns. That didn't do him much.
Yes! thanks, Boss. I was hoping someone would start putting together a list of what the Patriots have done over the years to "get an edge" on their opponents. I'm sure the Pats had cheated the cap, too....why not, they've done everything else....Cap cheaters like the donkeys in '97-98 and Niners in '94-95 are easily outed.....but, we don't have any hard evidence on the Cheatriots....although Julian Assuange hasn't officially weighed in yet on this topic.
MIchigan Packer, I had to check your Favre state re the 41 picks....holy moly, you as usual were correct.....that's some bad stuff.

What HOF is Kosar in?

I'll have what he's having.

He only had Kosar for the first part of his Browns' tenure. He had his most success with Vinny Testaverde, who was obviously not a HOF QB, but was serviceable. What gets lost in the Belichick stint at Cleveland was that probably was about to set up long-term success there and then Modell announced he was moving the team mid-season in 1996.
Belichick inherited a 3-13 team in 1991 and then went 6-10, 7-9, and 7-9 the next 3 years. In 1995 he went 11-5, won a playoff game, and things looked good. The following year they started 3-1 and were still around .500 (4-5) when Modell announced the move to Baltimore and the team imploded. They fired Belichick right after the move to Baltimore.
It must really suck to be a Browns fan.

not looking to argue but isn't TT's system the reason the HOF QB is in GB?
I believe Packers execs Eliot Wolf and Brian Gutekunst are the leading contenders for 49ers GM job at this time.

I thought Bellicheat had Neil O'Donnell at QB when the Packers went to Cleveland in '95 or '96 and BARELY won an ugly game....something like 13-7 ???

That Browns team that moved to Baltimore was a good team at times. GB played them for a championship at least once in the 60's. And that Browns team NOW IS the Baltimore Ravens. They had to leave the Browns name back in Cleveland. The Browns team that is there now and has not had much success is an expansion team. Except for the name, different everything. And I still don't see them turning a corner any time soon. Meanwhile the Ravens have won a SB or two.
An actual scenario is Dorsey comes back, TT switches roles, Eliot goes to San Fran for about seven years, then comes back to succeed Dorsey.
Having a Hall of Fame QB helps a lot. But ask the Saints if it's an automatic free pass to the Divisional round each season.
1 more move before you leave Ted.
T.J. Lang is the best free agent offensive lineman available in 2017. Was also on my midseason All-Pro OL Team: https://t.co/RufkiYuFvX pic.twitter.com/BDWGw6oCbE

Lang is a pure football player and a darn good one. I hope he's back next year even with his injuries. TT could certainly structure the contract to include bonuses for each week played. I think Tretter goes as a FA - he'll command too much as a bona fide starter. Linsley has done a fine job since he's been back. Do what TT do, and draft more 4th rd. gems for OL depth.
The #49ers are interviewing #Panthers DC Sean McDermott for their head-coaching job. They also have ESPN analyst @LRiddickESPN today.

I saw a related comment the other day, don't recall who said it, but their opinion was that Josh McDaniels and Louis Riddick are actually tied to each other for a coach/GM pairing with the 49ers.
Anywho, why would Wolf or Gutenkunst take that job with all these HC interviews already going on?
The only explanation is he is considering giving these HC's full control.
Or the new GM is currently involved with playoffs and gave the Niners his preferrred list of coaches.
I heard somehwere (espn radio?) that SF was looking for a GM+HC combo preferably hired together.
Alonzo Highsmith secretly interviewed and will bring his old buddy Winston Moss with him as HC.
He appears to be stepping, forward.
With the college season over, GM Ted Thompson is back from his scouting trips and has... https://t.co/unmv71DM8B pic.twitter.com/bKa5n8917n

No sign of Wolf or Gutenkunst.
Rumor swirling in IND that Irsay wants Manning back as GM. That led to this Q & A with Chmura this morning.
Don't be surprised if the Packers' Hall of Fame quarterback ever works in a front office role in Green Bay. Former Packer Mark Chmura provides some insight
No way no how should Favre ever have any kind of gig in GB where he is involved in personnel decisions. Scout, GM, whatever. Great QB during his career, but nothing about him says personnel evaluater/decider.
Of course, whenever Chmura speaks, we need to remember that by his count he has had over 30 concussions during his football career (HS - NFL).
Conversely, that number could be way over or under due to severity or number of said concussions. Officially I believe the count is 6 between BC and GBP.
I have no idea if Manning would work as a GM. I do know that Irsay, Grigson, and Pagano is the most incompetent collection of ****wits since York, Baalke, and Tomsula broke up.

On the other hand, I would be ALL IN with him taking a very prominent role in MIN.
Favre says he has trouble remembering a lot of things now, so who's going to take a chance for a front-office position on a guy who can't recall things? I just don't see it happening, unless it's on a "consultant" or "honorary" deal.
If you listen to the 1+ minute audio link of Chmura, it would be "pretty high up" in the organization.
He looks like he needs a BL on the rocks to unwind from his scouting!
Favre or Ted?
I wouldn't want Lorenzo anywhere near a position of responsibility in GB. He turned Murphys $20 million to do nothing so he could get Ted.
He got his $20 million plus. He got his ass beat into the ground. He proved Ted was right.
Id like my GMs to be a little better than over emotional dumbass.
