Claypool isn’t having a great β€˜22. Stats are down. But yes, he’s also playing out of position according to some. The rumor is they’d ask for a 3rd. A few think even that is too high, but teams know GB is looking to upgrade. Of course, OBJ could throw a wrench into this trade if 1.) he’s ready to play in a few weeks. 2.) He actually wants to play in GB.

Still , I’d rather take Chase

In the past, some considered him a disappointment in Pittsburg. So trade talks began. Against the Buc’s he caught all six of his targets for 96 yards. So now his stock is rising. IF Gutie was interested it should have been before now because they will want too much for him.

The Packers aren't likely to add anyone of substance at the trade deadline. It's just not in their nature, and WR is one of the toughest positions to get a guy acclimated to a system mid-year. It depends on timing and practice reps in an offensive system.

They lost their #1 WR in Adams and speed guy MVS from last year and decided to replace them with a C+ guy even when healthy (Sammy Watkins) and to draft a speed-guy project in Christian Watson. Watkins looked like JAG and struggled to get separation on a team with T. Hill as the #1 WR and Kelce as the TE with Mahomes throwing to him. Did they think playing with Lazard and R. Tonyan was going to somehow change that?

They are lucky that Doubs has been very good for a 4th rounder. He's

It was simply roster management malpractice unless they thought Watson was going to be a Justin Jefferson or J. Chase-level rookie.

The time to do something was June, not now. Even if they get a veteran, it will take that guy at least a month to get acclimated to the system.

I remember hoping the Packers would draft Claypool.  He hasn’t been as good as his pre-draft hype but still good.  I would definitely go after him.  A change of scenery might be good for him.  Who knows how good OBJ will be after coming back from ANOTHER injury?  Those injuries have to take their toll eventually.

From Packers.com:

The Green Bay Packers signed WR Kawaan Baker to the practice squad. The transaction was announced Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

(kah-WAHN) Baker (6-1, 210), a first-year player, was originally selected by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh round (No. 255 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of South Alabama. He spent most of his rookie season on the Saints' practice squad, but did play in two games, and recorded a tackle on special teams. In college, Baker caught 126 passes for 1,829 yards (14.5 avg.) and 16 touchdowns and rushed 82 times for 376 yards (4.6 avg.) and 11 TDs. He will wear No. 82 for the Packers

I wonder whether 12 would have "trusted" and thrown to Jefferson or Chase as rookies. Gotta earn it and endure the eye-rolls you know.

Looks like the WR room is fixed

@RapSheet:  Sources: The #Panthers are trading star RB Christian McCaffrey to the #49ers, as SF adds a major offensive weapon.

@RapSheet:   Full terms:
-- The #49ers get star RB Christian McCaffrey.
-- The #Panthers get a 2nd round pick in 2023, a third-rounder in 2023, and a fourth-round pick in 2023. Plus, a fifth-rounder in 2024.

Nice player. Always injured. 49ers looking desperate here.

The Bucs, Rams, and now the Niners have gone all-in the last few years to win titles and damn the consequences when they have no picks in the next 3-4 years to replenish the team.

Look at what the Niners have done to get Trey Lance and McCaffrey the last two years. Together, they gave up 4 first-round, 1 second-round, 2 third-round, and one-4th round pick. In 2023, the have no first, second, 4th, or 6th round picks.

The Rams have done the same thing.

The Packers' front office last trade for an established veteran was a 6th round pick for Randall Cobb. It was the only significant trade for veteran help in at least the last 10 years. (I don't count trades where they flip guys like D. Randall for other team's failed picks like D. Kizer).

The Bucks are the other extreme. If the Bucks were the Packers, we'd be in about season 5 of waiting for Eric Bledsoe to come through in a playoff series while drafting guys like DDV or M. Beauchamp in the late first round and hoping that they'll find another draft steal like Giannis to put them over the top.

Of course, if Kevin Durant's toe doesn't touch the line in Game 7 at the buzzer in regulation, the Bucks' trade doesn't look so good. But at least they tried to grab the whole apple and eat it instead of just making sure they got to nibble at it a little bit every year (a Brewers' front office quote after the Hader trade).

Lynch's "close but no cigar" is putting him on the hot seat. He probably figures if he doesn't win in the next two seasons, all those missing draft picks will be the next GM's problem.

If CMC gets them over the hump Lynch looks like a jeenyus. If not, he's just another in a long line of failed GM's.

Lynch became GM in SF in 2017 while Gutey assumed his role in 2018.

Lynch is also undoubtedly an aggressive GM as his latest trade for McCaffrey demonstrates and he may well end up being a "failed GM" ... but he's a failed GM whose 49ers have twice knocked the Packers out of the playoffs and his team at least got to a Super Bowl.

I agree that there is pressure on Lynch to get the 49ers back to the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, Lynch must be jealous that Gutey faces almost no pressure to make a trade for a player to improve his 3-3 Packers -- the ones who have not sniffed a Super Bowl during his tenure.

I like Brandt, but since when is Lance "oft-injured?" He was pretty durable in college IIRC. Unless you're Tom Brady or Peyton Manning and get the ball out as quick as possible, you are going to get hit/injured in the NFL.

And if you have a HC dumb enough to consistently use your QB as primary running weapon, he's going to miss a lot more games than most over time.

If you are the Niners you have to take a shot right now.  As much as Jimmy G gets criticized the guy wins games, and if this is indeed his last year in SF, it’s worth the gamble.

Right now, the Trey Lance selection (and what it took to get him) looks like a complete disaster.  It’s Jordan Love x1000. The fact that he is out for the year won’t help his development one bit, and he was already looking overwhelmed once he got the starting gig.

Makes you wonder how things may have been different had Gute actually pulled the trigger on dealing Rodgers to SF.  For what they gave up to get Lance, who knows how much in return the Packers could have gotten.

I’m currently in Athens, I will be going to Delphi to see the guy who really knows….The Oracle.  I plan on asking him who the Pack should trade for.  I will be missing the Badgers and Pack for the first time in forever.  I will be checking in here for all the usual, right on insights.

Fuck the Shadow.

Have a great time Pikes Peak! I'd like to get to Crete someday. Just remember what the Oracle told Croesus and ask your question carefully. If nothing gets messed up on that mountain beforehand the Packers will beat the eskimos on Sunday. Borris should take the over.
