Denver sends Bradley Chubb to Miami

MIA trades:

DEN trades:

Part of the reason they could do this deal is because Denver took Nick Bonito in the draft as pass rushing depth, the same Nick Bonito Green Bay could have taken before them if Fredokunst hadn't pissed away two picks on Watson and stayed put and taken Alec Pierce, as well.

Just a recurring theme with the Packers. If you really want the player, then sweeten the deal. Add a conditional X or Y if Claypool pans out.

At this point, if the Packers weren’t willing to go “all in” and add a weapon or two, then they should have been sellers and blown things up.

Doing nothing makes zero sense.  So what, win 6-7 games?   Either shoot for the moon (playoffs) or just tank (better draft position).  Be bold for once.

This truly tells me Gute and MLF and Murphy are way too fucking comfortable and apathetic so go ahead and fire them all.

Tommy Boy reporting that the Pack was thisssssssssss close to making a trade for a player and gosh darn it the other team just didn't come through is about as surprising as the Packers not actually making a trade.

Nobody has carried water for Packer management longer and more proudly than Tom Silverstein.

Gutey and MLF just got extensions. Murphy isn't going anywhere until he's 70.

If you are a Wisconsin sports fan, the Bucks are what you want. They went all in and won.

The Brewers disappointed you this year, but at least there appeared to be a commitment to get prospects to be better in the future (even though I hated the Hader trade).

The Packers have no plan other than extend Rodgers because no matter if you are good or bad, we'll be relevant in the national conversation and we'll drive revenue that way. Rodgers is the guy other fans love to hate and that's better than trotting Jordan Love out there because no one will care about GB at all if that's the case.

So is Amari Rodgers...the NFL is full of poor players.

I know it isn't popular here, but I still think he never got the opportunity to play receiver. Hard to say what kind of receiver he is. We all know he isn't a punt returner except for some reason the Packers coaching staff doesn't see it.

Agreed that it makes no sense to have committed to massive money for Rodgers’ final contract, and then use the draft-and-develop methodology all around him. Half-measures are half-assed.

Gute signs/keeps 2 players in Watkins and Cobb who have a long history of not being able to stay on the field. Low and behold, they can't stay on the field.

He assumes Lazard can be a #1 WR when nothing in previous seasons have pointed to that. Sure enough Lazard is not a #1. Most other teams with a good offense would have him as a #2 or even a #3.

He drafts a project in Doubs who exceeds expectations in TC but nonetheless is still a project and is very much going through growing pains as a rookie WR.

He then trades up in the draft, giving up their No. 53 and No. 59 picks in the second round, for Christian Watson. Let's just assume Watson stayed healthy. To assume he would be Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson would have been silly. Instead, he can't stay on the field and no one really knows what if any real production he will have in the 2nd half of the season.

I loved the idea GB would be a top 5 defense. It's not. But even if it was, you still need a competent offense to make anything remotely resembling a SB run. I mean, come on Gute. It's an offensive driven league.

It's a total failure on the GM level while he dole's out 50 mil a year to a QB with no one to throw to at WR or TE.

Again...maybe this is part of his plan...says "I wanted Aaron back! I gave him a huge contract!"

Doesn't give him any weapons around him, thereby triggering 12 to force a trade or retire in frustration and he can start the Love project and can say "we wish Aaron well!"

Absolutely nailed it.

No deal is better than a bad deal?   Well, finishing close to .500 and picking in the middle of the draft is a lose lose proposition.

Rodgers is a total and absolute flake. I’ve bashed him as much as anyone on this board.  But if you chose to resign him at 50M get some weapons around him.  If he wasn’t your guy then trade his ass but they didn’t.  That’s what pisses me off.  No team half asses it more than the Packers.  The FO is so goddamn fat and happy they are part of the machine they forget how to do their fucking jobs.

It’s not about PR and being liked it’s about results.  So get after it.  Swing for the fences for Rodgers or fucking tear it down and trade guys to build for the future but quit jerking us all off.

Of all the teams in this state the Packers are the biggest joke of them all.  The Bucks are all in.  The Brewers may not truly be all in but they have a strategy.  The Badgers, um, I think have one giving JL a chance.  The Packers?  They are OK living off their history and tradition.  Fuck that.  Grow a pair of balls and do something.

One last point.  Watson and Watkins can fuck off.  Waste of roster space.  To think that somehow we got over on Minnesota in that move up for Watson is hilarious.  I called it on draft day it’s great he runs a 4.3 but he can’t catch.  Now he can’t stay on the field.

To think Watkins would stay healthy is even more amusing.  He’s the ultimate tease.  When it matters he’s completely unreliable.

And yes, Lazard is no 1 and a 90 year old Cobb isn’t a difference maker.

Must take into account where the picks are.

The 6-1 Vikes still play the 3-5 (and tanking) Bears, 3-5 Packers, 1-6 (and tanking) Lions, 4-4 Commanders, and 4-4 Patriots (home).

They also get the 6-2 Giants and 5-3 Jets at home and will be heavily favored in both games.

If they go 6-4 they will finish 12-5 and be drafting at the end of the 3rd round. The Lions are currently hold the first pick of the 4th round.

You left out 'and tanking' Packers.

This team needed WR help 2 months ago.   This week they almost brought in a veteran WR that also would need to learn the offense.  It wouldn't show dividends for at least a few weeks.  They are 3-5 now.  They might have been 3-8 before things started clicking.

I'm disappointed that we didn't get anyone but it was already too late IMO.

I agree with a lot of this but let's wait and see on Watson. He clearly has a burst that only MVS had and he has a chance to be a contributor for a long time. Expecting him to be a #1 (or even a #2) WR as a rookie was unfair to him and stupid on the part of the FO. Look at these other guys numbers as rookies who were also all Packer 2nd or 3rd round picks.

D. Adams (38 catches, 446 yards, 3 TDs); Jordy (33, 366, 3); Jennings (45, 632, 3). James Jones (47, 676, 2).

That's what you could realistically expect from a 23 year old who was lining up against FCS guys last year. That's about where Doubs is going to be at and he was just a small step up in the Mountain West conference in terms of competition. Watson would probably be around that as well over a full year.

I think Cobb is a good guy to have around to mentor these rookies and he can clearly help them with Rodgers as well. I agree on Lazard, he's a glorified TE playing WR both because he's a great blocking WR and because he isn't fast enough to be a #1 or even probably a #2. However, you could probably win with him if you had a true #1 to go with him.

Watkins was about as cheap as the Packers could have gone with, and the results look like it.

The other thing to consider is that if the Packers turn things over to Love in the next year or two, they'll probably go need to go get another WR for him. He'll have no chance if they don't.

This doesn't even bring up how deficient they are at TE (at least for receiving).

It's tough to fix 18-24 months of questionable roster decisions in one trade deadline... This Packers roster isn't good enough, unfortunately. The free agency acquisitions on offense haven't been impactful and the collective Draft hauls haven't produced enough impact players.

I’m not going to give Watson a pass.

Adams and Jennings put up ridiculous numbers in college.  To a lesser extent, so did Jordy and Cobb.  And so did Doubs.

Watson?  He was a gadget guy for a small school known for running the ball.

Green Bay could have traded down in 2020  and selected Claypool instead of trading up to select Love. And Gute should have been torn to shreds if he gave up a small ransom for Claypool today.

So who could still be available?

Odell Beckham - don’t think he has any desire to play in GB although he’d be the sure #1 (until he runs the wrong route or drops a pass)

Will Fuller - lots of talent and young. But he doesn’t have great hands and he doesn’t run block. Would be the #1 (until he runs the wrong route or drops a pass)

Allen Hurns or TY Hilton - neither em to move the needle.

Not looking good.

WOW! Even the nutjob conspiracy theorists over at Purple Shat aren't coming up with that one!

All reports indicated that they were attempting to buy.   I find that ludicrous.    We are not one WR away from being a legit contender.

Should have started the inevitable rebuild yesterday instead of kicking the can.

The pool of available wide receivers at the trade deadline was not very deep.  Claypool didn't seem to be a good fit for this offense based on Silverstein and Doug Farrar.  Waiting to the trade deadline to fix a major deficiency that was present through the whole off-season is just bad GM'ing.

It would have been good/smart to offload some players (e.g., Dean Lowry for a low round pick and give more snaps to Wyatt/call up Heflin or Slayton) and possibly swap players (trade Savage for a safety or slot corner) but I don't know the cap ramifications and of course you need buyers.  I don't see Savage being back next year and we need a true slot corner in the worst way.  I love Douglas and how he competes, but he's a boundary, not a slot, CB.  I've seen suggestions to try him at safety.

Gute needs to do some major roster rebuilding in one off-season and the next draft has to be a knockout since the Pack invested in Rodgers.  That's a tall order.
