S**t!

@TomPelissero: Trade! The #Lions are sending TE T.J. Hockenson to the #Vikings, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

Minnesota sends a 2023 second-round pick and 2024 third-round pick to Detroit for Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round pick and a 2024 conditional fourth-round pick.

I'd have to look at the Jimmy Johnson pick value chart, but this seems pretty similar in value to what the Packers gave up to trade up for Christian Watson (or Darnell Savage earlier).

Trading 2nd and 3rd round picks for two 4th round picks and an established receiving TE seems like good value. Hockenson is also under contract next year for a 9 million cap hit.

I don't know whether it's a positive or a negative, but this probably makes it more likely the Packers win on Sunday (likely makes their first round pick in 2023 that much worse in value without a realistic chance to make the playoffs)

Must take into account where the picks are.

The 6-1 Vikes still play the 3-5 (and tanking) Bears, 3-5 Packers, 1-6 (and tanking) Lions, 4-4 Commanders, and 4-4 Patriots (home).

They also get the 6-2 Giants and 5-3 Jets at home and will be heavily favored in both games.

If they go 6-4 they will finish 12-5 and be drafting at the end of the 3rd round. The Lions are currently hold the first pick of the 4th round.

So they basically swapped out Roquan for Claypool.  Poles making some interesting moves.

Also, Roquan will probably make 15 million next year. Claypool's cap hit for 2023 is 1.3 million. Obviously, the Bears will try to extend Claypool but they get one more year of control for less than the Packers will pay Sammy Watkins this year or Christian Watson this year or next.

If you think the team is a player/WR away from contending for a Lombardi, you pull the trigger on a trade.

If you think the team is not really that close from contending for a Lombardi, you jettison some of the dead/expensive weight from the roster.

If you are the Packers, you pretend that trades don't happen in the NFL and tell your fans they are entitled if they are not celebrating all those NFC North titles over the past 11 years without Super Bowl appearances.

Lions using the trade deadline to accumulate picks for a faster rebuild.

Bears adding veterans to add depth and options.

Vikings adding a former first-rounder to fill weakness from injury + additional offensive schemes.

Packers content at 3-5 with their current personnel and how the season is going with their 4% chance of winning the division and 17% chance of making the playoffs. Oh, and absolutely confident in not making any coaching changes.
