QB (3): I know it's not preferable to keep 3 QBs, but I can't see TT wanting to expose Hundley to waivers unless he's Brohm-like. Depending on how camp shakes out I could see him being #2 and Tolzien gets axed.

RB (3): I was a big fan of John Crockett before the draft and wanted GB to spend a pick on him. With time, he'll make an ideal counterpart to Lacy the way Johnathan Franklin was supposed to.

FB (2): I hadn't planned on keeping 2 FBs, but there was an open spot.

WR (5): Abbradumdum vs. Janis will be a tough competition, it's possible Ted could go 6 WRs but I highly doubt he will. I expect Davante will take a major step forward this season.

TE (4): Backman is a camp surprise, while Rodgers makes his case for being the unquestioned #1 TE in the team. Perillo sticks as a scrappy special teams/goalline formation ace.

OL (8): Tretter has experience at LT hence why I stuck him there. If Linsley gets hurt, they'll need to find another backup quickly as Barclay is purely a RT. Rotherham is one of two UDFAs to make the roster.

DL (7): Again, didn't plan on Ringo being there but there was space. I think Thornton will make strides this year but he's not an ideal RDE.

OLB (5): Nothing mysterious here. Hubbard lives up to the promise he showed last year and is groomed as a possible Neal/Perry replacement.

ILB (4): Bradford rebounds and rotates nicely with Barrington/Ryan in lieu of a true Ray Lewis-type ILB. Matthews sees additional time here as well.

CB (5): Very inexperienced group. It'll be tough going the first few weeks but they should catch on. Goodson takes Bush's spot as gunner.

FS (2): Micah Hyde sticks around as NB despite the completely untrue rumors of him being a virulent racist.

SS (2): Richardson sees additional action as an S/LB hybrid.

ST (3): Balls.

Great ideas rooted in love.(R)

IF Raji returns to something resembling 2010
IF Boyd continues to develop
IF Guion is more than a 1 yr wonder
IF Thorton beats out Ringo

I'm going to disagree. With some of it.

Im making Carolina pulled pork and threw a shoulder on the smoker at 5am. I started drinking shortly thereafter. So whatever.

Hold on....I do have a point. No way Hubbard takes Jayrone Elliott's spot. I think Elliott takes a step forward this year.

Chilli's right about Elliot.

If they're keeping 2 FBs which I think they will, then no Perillo.

Jeff Janis will be on the 53.

Mike Pennel also. NT of the future.

Tavarus Dantzler is a f-ing stud and will be the prize of the UFDA class.

Dantzler looked unblockable in his highlight reel but you have to wonder about who he was going up against.

I think Rotherham could be the UDFA find of 2015.

Add in Crockett and it's potentially a special FA draft class.

I don't know where I said that this was a reasonable estimate.

Ok, fresh, intelligent, and reasonably clever....

Fresh- 4 consecutive NFC North Titles. Not fresh. Closer to repetitive and a pattern.

Intelligent- Cutler sucks. Accurate. Intelligent. Not fresh.

Reasonably clever- Last team to win an NFC Championship at Soldier Field plays in Green Bay. Intelligent. Always fresh. Still think we can do better though.

Jared Allen playing OLB covering running backs out of the backfield is going to be a special kind of enjoyable in 2015.

So post NFL Draft, in-between too many burgers this weekend and before the OTAs, I offer my first Packers roster projection -- final 53 and 8 Practice Squad.  Welcome, as always, your thoughts.

OFFENSE

QB (3):  Rodgers (31), Tolzien (FA-'16), Hundley (D-5)

Cut:  Blanchard

Comments:  Like most teams, the Packers would prefer to keep just 2 on the 53, one on the Practice Squad (PS).  But that's likely a year away.  For 2015, need Tolzien's few years experience, knowledge of the offense, behind Rodgers.  Hundley too talented to risk putting on PS, losing him to another team.

HB (3):  Lacy, Starks, Crockett (CFA)

Practice Squad (PS):  Harris (CFA)

Cut:  Neal

Comments:  Still appreciate having Starks as our #2.  College Free Agent Crockett big (6-0, 217), reads really well.  As does Harris (6-1, 237).  So will give him the nod to stick around on PS over Neal, who looked decent in pre-season last year.

FB (2):  Kuhn (32, FA-'16), Ripkowski (D-6A)

Comments:  Appears Kuhn has another year in him.  Ripkowski a posibility for PS, but guessing Packers want him on 53 to help bolster Special Teams.

WR (6):  Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Montgomery (D-3), Abbrederis, Janis

PS:  Coxson (CFA)

Cut:  White, Pinkard, Blue, Collins, Hunt

Comments:  Montgomery hopefully our starting kickoff and punt returner, and proves to be good enough at to warrant 3rd round selection.  Packers were high on Abbrederis last year, hopefully he's fully recovered.  Janis still oozes potential at 6-3, 219 with speed to burn.  Will be interesting to see the jump he can make in his second year from small school background.  Coxson (6-1, 209) might offer enough potential to offer a spot on the PS.

TE (3):  Rodgers, Quarless (FA-'16), Backman (D-6C)

Cut:  Perillo, Henry

Comments:  Expecting Rodgers to make a jump, take over starting spot.  Backman doesn't have stiff competition for 3rd spot.  Hopefully shows enough to earn it.  Keeping Ripkowski at FB likely means going with only 3 TEs.

OL (8):  OTs Bakhitari, Bulaga, Barclay (FA-'16); Gs Sitton, Lang, Rotheram (CFA); Cs Linsley, Tretter

PS:  OT Ebbele (CFA), G Walker

Cut:  OT Vujnovich; Gs Taylor, Reed, Phillips; C Gerhardt

Comments:  Betting on Barclay recovering fully, solidifying his value as a quality backup.  Was very disappointed with Taylor last year.  So hoping Rotheram (6-5, 325) proves to be an improvement.  Don't know much about these other guys yet, so for now will keep two on PS with great size:  OT Ebbele (6-8. 315), G Walker (6-5, 328).

DEFENSE

DL (6):  DEs Daniels, Jones, Guion (FA-'16), Thornton; NTs Raji (FA-'16), Pennel

PS:  DE Ringo (D-6B)

Cut:  DEs Boyd, Gaston, Hooks

Comments:  Keeping fingers crossed 3rd round pick from last year Thornton justifies Thompson's investment.  Guion can play DE or NT, enhancing his value.  Ringo sounds interesting.  Guessing we can keep on PS without much risk of losing him.  Boyd played OK at times, but Thornton effectively bumps him.

LB (10):  OLBs Matthews, Peppers (35), Perry (FA-'16), Neal (FA-'16), Elliott, Hubbard; ILBs  Barrington, Ryan (D-4), Bradford, Dantzler (CFA)

PS:  OLBs Rasco (CFA), Vaughters (CFA)

Cut:  OLB Mulumba; ILBs Palmer, Thomas, Francis

Comments:  No matter what happens at ILB, just glad we don't have to watch Hawk or Jones try to play the position anymore.  Hoping Ryan starts, and along with Barrington at least offers two young guys who will run and hit.  OLB Elliott was exciting as a pass-rusher in pre-season last year, look forward to seeing him in 2015.  Hubbard a forgotten man, but at 6-6, 257, I like what he could give us, gets nod over Mulumba.  Betting on Bradford showing why he was a 4th round pick last year, proving to be a good player at ILB.  Like what I read about CFA ILB Dantzler (6-2, 240), so keep him as 4th ILB over smaller Thomas (6-1, 227).  OLBs Rasco (6-3, 252), Vaughters (6-2, 254) make PS, important to develop with what could be a mass exodus at OLB in 2016 with Peppers turning 36 and Perry and Neal both FAs.

DB (9):  CBs Shields, Hayward, Randall (D-1), Rollins (D-2), Hyde, Goodson; Ss Clinton-Dix, Burnett, Richardson (FA-'16)

PS:  CB Gunter (CFA)

Cut:  CBs Glover-Wright, Blake, Sebetic, Manning; Ss Banjo, Fanor

Comments:  Flexibility of Hyde, and now maybe Randall and Rollins, to play CB or S allow Packers to keep just 9 DBs.  Hopefully Gunter shows just enough speed to play in the NFL, because he certainly has the size (6-2, 201).

SPECIAL TEAMS

(3):  PK Crosby (30, FA-'16), P Masthay, LS Goode (30, FA-'16)

Cut:  P Mansell

Comments:  Crosby had a great year in 2015, hopefully continues this year.  Masthay on the other hand surprisingly struggled.  Guessing Mansell won't beat him out, but worst case provides enough competition to get Masthay back on track.

Also concur with the poster who said that it is SO GREAT not to have Hawk and Jones in the mix. Can't get worse. May be better. The capper to me was Hawk not covering the only possible receiver during that fake field goal attempt in Seattle. That was almost a high school level mistake...

Excellent post Steve, following up on Rusty's. With you nearly 100%, although I agree with Henry about Boyd v. Thornton. Khyri showed next to nothing last summer. As did Hubbard. Here's hoping a year in the system and the weight room pays off.

Double shift.

Fry guy called in sick.

Had to mop up puke in ladies room.

Twice.

-khryi Thornton, DL....Won't make it.
-TE Perillo.... really, 4 tight ends?
-I'd rather have 6 WR's including Jeff janis
-CB Dimitri Goodson.  Not sure he'll make it, but I think he'll get a good offer from the Kremlin.
-2 Fullbacks?   Hmmm...not sure about that, but maybe Rip will need Kuhn to help train him in pass pro.   And Kuhn is a very sharp tack, so perhaps...
-Agree on keeping Jayrone Elliiott.  In fact, I'm very excited to see what he can do in his 2nd season.   It would be very foolish to let him go, and we all know the Purple People would pick him up instantly!

I suspect MM will have a suggestion from Uncle Ted that 3 DL are currently FA at end of the season and he might want to train up a couple replacements.

At FB if you had a good but not as great as TOG quarterback you might want to develop a young stud to make sure any loose rushers never allow your main man to get dirty.  Kuhn is old and may not make roster if he has any physical issues and polish shows.

TE has been a source for special and specail (Bostick) team players while training young pups.  Q is a vet playing for a contract while Rodgers is looking very good for a rookie.  If a young guy shows tallant he will stick but the FB situation will weigh on that option.

WR are a big part of this offense.  MM will never worry about having to keep 6. Refresher, MM kept 5 TE's recently while a TGIF was healthy.

Locks = 3 QBs. Only way they keep 2 is if Tolzein completely regresses in August.

They didn't trade up 20 spots to draft Hundley, only to.put him on PS so a team like the Bills can pluck him.

Hundley could take a dump for  4 weeks & still make this team in 2015.

Jayrone Elliott is another player I expect to make a nice jump this year.

Boyd is a solid rotational guy and I'd be very surprised if he failed to make the cut. Hundley is a project and won't be ready to backup AR and they'll go with three QBs. Bradford and Thornton are question marks and both have to demonstrate they belong in the NFL. LB appears pretty wide open and my guess is Ryan ends up as the starter sooner rather than later.

Expect a minimum of three players to emerge that really aren't on the radar screen right now. Backman at TE is a pretty good pick for one of them.
