I thought I read somewhere, that Jones is only suspended one game.
You've mentioned Bryant before. What about him do you like for the Packers?
note: do not google red bryant wood
well, some of you might want to
He is a stellar run stopper. That is what I like about him. Big dude. I bet he would love to sign on with GB, and I bet Peppers would be pretty happy to have him along, as would Raji. Bryant graded out very well right up to his release from JAX, which was a simple salary dump for them. They over-signed him in FA.
It was just a thought though. Maybe Ted looks at Gaston as a Bryant kind of guy. Boyd should be better, and is probably one of my biggest disappointments on this DL. I kind of thought we would get more from him.
I'm certainly ready to be corrected, but there is almost nothing in Ted's history to suggest he'd bring in a vet like Bryant at this stage of pre-season. It's not how he rolls.
Indeed, the only impactful signing of a FA or waived vet after camp has started that I can remember was Howard Green in October 2010. At that point of the season GB had already lost 10 of the 53 to season ending IR. A somewhat different move was the trade with the NYG to get Ryan Grant which happened the last week or so of pre-season if I recall.
Of course they regularly pick up folks to put on the PS but that's not what we're talking about here.
Our first 4 games are Bears, Seahawks, Chiefs and Niners.
CHI and SFO are lower tier NFL teams
SEA and KAN are at Lambeau
I always enjoy Mike Clemens' Radio Interviews. He was on the Chuck and Wickett show on 105.7 today and shared his thoughts on the Packers 53. Well worth the listen, imo.

Pete Dougherty at the GBPG takes his stab at where things stand.
Hungry5, I had a funny thought walking into work this morning. Maybe I've succumbed to wanting time tested, proven veterans on our DL. How about that, Henry? I've shifted into a dream-world state...
Our DL has been a bit of a cluster. Just wanting to shore up an area that I consider a bit weak, but, I don't know that it is weak, just seems that way. Guess we will find out, and if Ted sees a gaping hole there, maybe he adds another player once rosters start to get cut down. Maybe we are better there than I might think and we won't need another player.
Personally, I've never recovered from the loss of Cullen Jenkins. I could see his release coming a mile away, and I thought it was a bad move. It was. Not equating Bryant with Jenkins either, just wanting someone there we know who will do the job.
I have to say, that DL of Guion, Raji and Daniels looks like one of the best we've had since, but when do we get to see that? Hopefully, Guion's suspension is reduced. Looking at Matt Forte in CHI week 1, Marshawn Lynch and Jamaal Charles/Knile Davis weeks 2 and 3, and hoping we can shut that down.
As others have mentioned, we will rarely be in our base D, so, I guess we could be OK till everyone comes back. Pennel gives me hope, as does Gaston.

titmfatied, thanks for the Clemens link. Good stuff. Sounding pretty rough for Casey Hayward. Glad we have 3 good young CBs looking ready to step in. Maybe history repeats itself like that old Niners team of '81 with Lott (7 INTs), Wright (3 INTs), Williamson (4 INTs) & Hicks (9 INTs), a bunch of young ballhawks taking their team to a SB win behind a potent offense. Rollins, Randall, Gunter and the 2nd year Clinton-Dix and the veteran Burnett, who was a hell of a ballhawk in college could do something really special this season. I like it. Hopefully Hayward can come back and be a part of this...
His take on Perillo seems right on. Justin Perillo has definitely performed well, and he could win a job if he can come back from the concussion. Interesting thinking about that TE position, and how keeping Kuhn and/or Rip could affect that spot. A lot of positions up for grabs heading into week 2 of the preseason. I didn't think Kuhn stood a chance to win a spot after Rip was drafted, but it is looking more and more like they will keep both. I don't know about that. I'd go with youth, and keep the Rip.
Mike Clemens is great. Thanks again. Dougherty always does a good job too. Thanks cuqui!
What do we have, 2 more preseason games before the first roster cut? Looking like they will be tight and tough. A lot of depth. Keeping Kuhn may mean one less DE, DT, LB, DB, WR or TE. I don't see how Rip can be let go with his STs play. Does Datone contribute more than Kuhn? Is Datone really that far on the bubble? Josh Boyd? How long before Palmer has the club removed? Can he play effectively with it? I don't think so.
Players like Quarrels and Kuhn are security blankets for Rodgers. Do we keep an extra OT and cut one of those guys loose? Tough cuts coming.
From what I saw of him, he impressed the hell out of me. Was probably the most consistent pass catcher through all the OTAs. Saw him make some catches in TC practices too. Trouble is, he will probably be snatched up on PS by the Bears, but who knows?
Here's Greg Gabriel at the National Football Post talking about the cut down process
http://www.nationalfootballpos...-cutting-the-roster/
We worry too much about the sixth WR vs the thurd MLB. Stars win titles and rings. Scrubs/Bostick types lose titles and rings. Look for youth with upside that doesn't cost you a trip to the super bowl.
Eddie Lacy
James Starks
Raijion Neal
John Crockett
Alonzo Harris
John Kuhn
Aaron Ripkowski
I can't help but think this is the finest backfield stable TT has put together in his time here. It's unfortunate that they won't be able to keep them all but it's making for a really interesting preseason. Combine that group with the offensive line depth and the Packers most likely keeping 3 QBs and it's going to make for some really difficult 53 decisions.
The one position where health is paramount is DL. They're going to be scraping by for the start without 95 and 98. The last thing they need is any situation that forces them to keep an extra at that group.
Points to the bigger problem of making those tough cuts. What contributions do we expect Kuhn to make this season? To me, he screwed up some STs plays last year on a level that was inexcusable. His running is ineffective. His blocking questionable.
And, we are keeping him, why?
I think life for the Packers would be easier if we cut with sentimentality and draft status, and went with the players we need, the ones who produce, and the ones we expect will produce.
Cutting Kuhn and Perry, another player who many feel is a lock, but has not produced, would allow us to keep an extra OT and an extra DE. Those are two areas of great need. Not FB. Not OLB.
Kuhn is Aaron's security blanket. He ain't going anywhere.
I know this line of thought is not going to be popular, but it does speak to making "tough cuts."
Think of a real security blanket as another OL who can protect Rodgers in a pinch.
Or, how about a guy like Christian Ringo? This young 6th round pick has great potential. Been working hard all camp. Finally had a breakthrough yesterday with 2 sacks, and a PD against Rodgers that was almost an INT. Don't we want this on our DL? Do we keep a player like Perry instead, one who has shown himself to be ineffective for 3 years, just because he is a former 1st round pick?
As our team gets better, the roster spots become far more valuable.
Kuhn is a coach on the field. The Packers like having a coach on the field.
No matter how many times you write it, Perry still isn't getting cut.
But I would maintain Ringo won't be cut either. He's Daniels replacement if they can't afford the vet.
Really good article on becoming a 3- down back in GB
This is what all the young RBs need to learn in order to make the team and get on the field. This is why Kuhn has a job
Pass Protections. Took Lacy a year+ , took Starks 2 years +
http://www.packersnews.com/sto...omfortable/32090405/
"The progression I see," Rodgers said, "is just a feel in the passing game. Because the guy can run â that's why he's here â but when you can really pick up pressures and do a good job reading the rotation of the safeties, that's when you kind of can be a three-down back."
When does Perry deliver? He is in more highlight reels for opposing players than he's made for our Packers.
If we keep him, I'd love to see him have a career year. I just think that would be a big gamble, and I have no confidence in him paying off for the Packers. Besides one hit he made 3 years ago that he was wrongly flagged for, what is there to give you confidence he will be productive?

Whoa... all we know right now about Neal, Crockett, Harris, and Ripkowski is next to nothing. Well, Neal Crockett Harris was pretty good in How I Met Your Mother. You don't win regular season games, divisions, playoff games, or the Super Bowl with guys from the All Oneida team. These guys look good so far, but so have a lot of former TC guys who went on to careers as UPS drivers or Vikes.
From the what I think I know department. Perry has made more plays for the Packers than Bradford.
Funny is a good thing Trophies -
I don't know who is right or wrong on Nick Perry ( but I have an idea )
But that doesn't matter one iota. The real take home message is this:
You've already made your point and shared your opinion based on the info you have and now the Packers will decide what they think based on the info they have.
There's really not much value in re-hashing it again and at this point even the small-brains at X4 know how you feel on the topic of Nick Perry. Posting it again serves no purpose, so instead we choose to laugh at ourselves and have some fun with it.
None of us really knows jack diddly squat about building & running an NFL team; and when you fully accept that reality - then this is all just entertainment... aka fun.
Have some fun while you're here, its what makes this place work.

Nice....Hadn't seen that one coming.
I'm all for trading a RB for a draft pick next year or a player that can help us this year. However, will we find a trading partner?
No matter, we ought to be much better this season.
No worries dude, we've all done it because we're all passionate about the Packers.
Full speed ahead
I never re-hash my opinions. Please don't lump me into this conversation.
By the way the Vikings have never won a super bowl.
Stupid AJ Hawk. Stupid Keil.
There's more than enough awareness about Perry.
Anyone know how PFF does their grading, in less than 5-6 hours?

Lots of moves this past off-season to have a positive outlook for 2015.
But I would maintain Ringo won't be cut either. He's Daniels replacement if they can't afford the vet.
That's a huge stretch.
If TT and MM really like some of these guys and want them to go to/stay on our PS, they may have to pay them bigger bucks. Other teams are probably just waiting for our cuts...
We hear that every year around this time, but lately very few of our cuts wind up getting claimed off waivers.
You're just wrong on that, Heyward. Many years a half dozen or so get picked up elsewhere. Do you need names? Links?
There were some bad drafts in the last 5 years so that would make sense. But the last couple have deepened our roster so there will be more talent jettisoned.
