I’m as disappointed as anyone about not making the big game the last 3 years. But I don’t understand the dissing on MLF. Be careful what you wish for.  He has brought stability to the organization, players seem to love playing for him, he wins (though we all wanted more), and he deals well with adversity. I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes, and I too think Drayton was a train wreck. I think changes will happen. However, I’ll wait and see how it plays out.

Something to think about, from PackersNotes:

Most people wanted the first-year coordinator to be fired in the locker room immediately following the epic special teams meltdown against the 49ers, but he’s still employed over a week later. While it’s difficult to imagine Drayton keeping his job, other factors at work could come into play. One is that LaFleur has already fired three assistants since 2020. Another is that Drayton would be the second Black coach let go after only one season. That wouldn’t be the best of looks for an organization that already lags behind when it comes to minorities on the coaching staff and in the front office. The guess here is that LaFleur will ultimately decide to make a change, but it’s not the slam dunk most assumed it would be after what will go down as one of the worst special teams performances in the long history of the National Football League.

I updated the thread title. And agree, hell, the fact that 10!!!! players were on the damn field on the last and most important part of the game was fireable in and of itself.

Let's just hope to hell Murphy sticks a crowbar in his wallet and let's LaFleur hire a damn competent Outside hire as ST Coordinator. I am done with internal hires at this position.

I actually appreciate LaFleur taking the necessary time and review before making a change.

He stated he hadn't/hasn't been that involved with STs this season... so, now that he's taken a deep look at the season, the play of individuals and the coaching involved, he made his choice.

At least he made it appear he didn't want to fire his ass midway through the season.  But THANK YOU MLF!  You had the stones I was beginning to doubt you had.  Now get rid of the entire ST coaching staff so the new ST coach doesn't have to feel pressure to keep any of the rest of the clown show.  And Murphy, stay the fuck out of this.  Ballz, just sign the damn check.  Let MLF pick who he wants.

I hadn't seen this before. That's fucking embarrassing....

I read somewhere that Burks is the one who fucked up on this play.

Thank god!  Now all of the X4 hand wringing can end. Was there really any doubt MLF wasn’t going to do it? He’s moved on from other coaches when they didn’t perform. Going through a process and not completely embarrassing a colleague (by firing him immediately after the game) is what a good leader does. I assume incoming candidates will take notice of how it was handled.

This. The knee-jerk reaction would have been to fire him just after the final whistle, and all of us would have cheered. Taking the long view is frustrating to us fans, but MLF did the right thing. It's not like Drayton is the fall guy for a total MLF failure or is going to be snapped up by another team. He's probably looking at used car sales jobs right now, although he has to prove he can get the proper number of vehicles onto the lot.
