The equivalent of a hockey player coming out of the penalty box and taking a pass on his stick for a breakaway. Everything’s got to line up perfectly for it to happen. This did.

That was the first thing I thought of too,  I just didn't know u could do that in the world cup,  another question i have is with the red card.

when a player receives a red card, he gets booted out of the game,  and the team plays short one man the rest of the game,  so my question?????? does the team play down 1 player in the next game ???

None of the outlets mention exactly what the Serbian banners that got them fined say.

I do like the story following the one about Mexico and Serbia:

Burger King has apologized for offering a lifetime supply of Whoppers to Russian women who get pregnant by World Cup players.

Critics assailed the offer, announced on Russian social media, as sexist and demeaning.

The announcement was removed Tuesday from Burger King’s social media accounts but was still circulating among Russian social network users. It promised a reward of free burgers to women who get “the best football genes” and “ensure the success of the Russian team for generations to come.”

Nope. Just the remainder of that game. I'm not up to speed on whether red-carded players are suspended for the next game these days, but also, too many yellow cards gets a  guy suspended for the next game as well.

This is my chance to mention I received a total of one red card in my entire 25 year career. Circa 1982. Milwaukee Sport Club (my team) vs Milwaukee Bavarians. A little pissant named....Chris Klassen from the Bavarian's reached up and slapped me as I went up for a ball on a corner kick (ref never saw it) It was a rainy, muddy day and I reached down and grabbed two handfuls of mud and smeared his face like he was Al Jolson.....

I got tossed.

Bastard.

thanks for that  BK,  and good for you, sure sounds like the kid deserved  a little  mud in the face....u must be in really good shape,  I used to think the long distance speed skaters in the Olympics  were in the best shape, but now  after watching    a week of the world cup  these players look like their in even better shape,  constantly running and then running some more.

The haters here will quickly point out I was a goalkeeper.....85 minutes of standing still and 5 minutes of terror.

But no running.

Landon Donovan didn't exactly make Leo Messi money...hell he didn't even make Bob Messi money. So he will whore himself out for any ads.

Growing up and spending most of my life in California, it will be a cold day in hell before I ever pull for Mexico to do anything but lose 10-0 in every match. The bandwagon is fully loaded right now because they are having a modicum of success...but it was crickets when that fat toad Herrera was grabbing his huevos at referees and channeling the South of the Border equivalent of the Pittsburgh 'Cho.

Really, they are the only team I can't stand...I am fairly indifferent to all other international squads. I pull for players more than squads.

France vs Peru just underway,  were scanning the stands looking for the Lima  super-fan  NISSU.

She decided to stay home and watch it with me. :-)

some guys have all the luck

France moves on Peru out of the cup

Argentina vs Croatia,   Lionel Messi is in the house

A) Croatia is a lot better than the average fan knows. Rakitic, Modric, Kovacich, Perisic, Mandzukich...those guys can play for just about any team in the world (and do).

B) Argentina's players HATE their coach Jorge Sampaoli and never bought into his bull$hit once the AFA fired the very well respected and beloved Tata Martinez.

But, the godfather of Argentinian soccer, Diego "Coke Boy" Maradona, pulled strings, and called all the shots, and got them to hire his drinking buddy/Eskimo brother. And being the classy MF he is, Sampaoli RAN off the field after the loss and didn't shake a single hand...he then proceeds to throw his entire team under the bus afterward.

Argentina will lose their next game because quite frankly, they won't play for that tool any longer.

Argentina's soccer federation woes make the US's seem minor.

That's the best midfield in the world.

Come again?

What a nice way to wake up to some world cup, the only thing that could  be better would be CHILLIJON 's new mid fielder cooking some bacon and eggs.

couple of big hitters on the field today,  Belgium now, and later Germany,  right now a scoring fest between Belgium 2 and Tunisa  1  at the 35 mark

Belgium has as much talent as any team in this tournament...Germany, France, Spain...hell they may have more than Spain. But it Hazard and Lukaku always seem to fold under pressure. Lukaku does the same thing at United. He will dump in 3 goals vs. Brighton or West Brom, then he will do nothing vs the top 6.

If Lukaku keeps scoring like he has been, they have a great shot to win it all.
