I was watching paint dry and all of a sudden an unbelievable game of futbol broke out.  Wow.  That extra time was incredible.

Pretty clear who was better.  Still pretty cool to see the USA fight all the way through.

I wonder how many years will go by before a day passes without Wondolowski thinking about that shank at the end of regulation...

It's the best I have ever seen but then again I have never watched anyone over the age of 10 play soccer before.

One thing I did miss though was the goalies stopping shots with their butt. That happened quite a bit in the matches I watched.

I thought they played hard and should be proud of their finish.

Now you have another 3-7 Iowa Big Ten campaign to look forward to.

Pretty safe to assume that Altidore would've hammered that one home.  Oh well... that finish is probably about right for the US.  They're in about the Top 15 in the world, but they're obviously well below that elite level of Brazil, Argentina, the Netherlands, etc.

US soccer needs an 18 year old phenom.

In the Bayern Munich system. He will receive the best coaching.

I'm half Belgian, yet there was not one Henquinet or Smeester on their roster!

You go ten miles on top of Brussels and turn left at that building with the plus sign on the top, eh?

Great segment on the Dan Patrick show this am. Question was asked, "would you rather see the USA win a World Cup or see the team you follow every year win a championship?"

So "the team you follow" was just crushing the World Cup with comments like "soccer doesn't matter", "you spend a lifetime invested in your team", and "you can't compare an event that happens every 4 years with teams we follow every year"

After about 40 minutes of this a caller calls in with,"It's almost like Lake Placid never happened and everyones already forgotten what it meant"

Brilliance.

Well, Howard can be proud of the way he's (probably) going out, as can Beasley who played inspired the whole tourney. Dempsey, not so much. The set piece was incredible and all he needed to do was give a little angle to that ball and in it goes. We needed him to put the ball into the net. And Wondo will be seeing that one in his nightmares. Green's goal was a thing of beauty!

Future looks bright with Jones, Green, Yedlin, Johansson, and the rest of the young players. Replacing Howard will be key. The U.S. could have used Donovan's scoring touch, but it's hard to argue with Klinsman's going with the young guys for the future. In four years, they should take at least one more step with Altidore, a more experienced D, and Bradley.
