The quarterback is a part of the team.

They have Smith. We have Mathews.
They have Willis. Our secondary is better.
Davis = Finley.
They have Crabtree. We have Nelson, Jennings, Jones and Cobb (would you rather have one good receiver or a bunch of them?)
They have Gore. We have Cobb and Harris, but more importantly, we have AR12 in the backfield. Our passing game is much better than their running game.

There is no "superior team" here. Both of them are very good.

Do you really believe Davis = Finely? Really?

We have a better QB and receivers, a much better passing game. The Packers oline is not as good as the 49ers an neither is the dline. The 49ers have a much better defense than the Packers.

You really think Davis tips the scale to the Niners being "superior"? He's had like 12 catches in the last 7 games.

Would you trade Finley for Davis even up? I would.

I yhink the Packers have a better QB and receivers and they are superior to the 49ers.

The only advantages the 49ers have are in the trenches, the RB, and TE - that's it! could be enough to beat us or maybe not. In any case, I would not call the 49ers the superior team.
If Rodgers stays upright and the defense doesn't put on another clown act (something like the game in the Metrodome, or the second half of the Colts game), the Packers will win tomorrow. Allowing no more than 5-6 combined sacks/knockdowns/hits and just not completely sucking on defense will get it done, guaranteed. It's really that simple.
IMO, this game boils down to the discipline of the GB defense. The read option offense by SF requires the GB defense to protect their assignment at all costs (contain the edges, TACKLE!, head on a swivel).

2-3 yards by Gore, CK, is totally fine. SF will stay patient and trying to keep hitting those runs for big yardage, and count on GB to not tackle (or miss, and Ole'). Force 3rd and Long, and keep CK in the pocket. Get off the Field!

Everything else seems a push, except turnovers of course.

GB needs discipline and Nasty on D - there's the key.

Really? So the Packers LBs are better than the 9ers? I really doubt that. Obviously CMIII is a stud, but I think SFs backers (Willis, Bowman, Brooks) are the best group in the NFL.

I also don't think the Packers OL is on part with the SF OL. In fact, I think it's the biggest mismatch in the whole comparison.

Still, a lot of that can be offset by the fact that Rodgers is significant better than Kaepernick, our WRs are a lot better than their receivers, and we finally have a solid running game. In addition, with CMIII and Woodson back healthy I think it puts a lot more pressure on that OL and QB of the 49ers.

It might sound obvious but the trench play and QB play will determine this game. If GB gets manhandled like they did in week 1 I don't think they will win this one. As good as Rodgers is he can't get knocked around like a pinball and we can't allow our DL and LBs to let Gore get going and control the clock. Ideally, the Packers get an early lead and go after Kaepernick and force him to make some mistakes.

Agree - I was off regarding the LBs. However, I also may be off regarding the TEs. Damn I suck. Good thing you guys are here to keep my inaccurate thoughts in check.
Seems the Packers preparation for the Vikings was a real good thing. Tightening up running lanes including the edges.

I just think the Pack needs to try to match the 49'ers physicality and technique. But, I saw a later noter emphasize o-line play to which I sure agree. Need a solid game from the offensive line, realizing a solid game for the Pack is maybe akin to instead of the line performing like a bottom dweller, it is average. With Rodger's legs and accuracy in motion as well as the receivers and a semblance of a running game threat, an o-line playing at an NFL average level ought to be enough for the win.
What is shocking to me is that Vernon Davis has basically been phased out of that offense. I know because he was on my fantasy football team and except for a few games earlier in the year he's done nothing. In fact, as up and down as Finley has been he's still put up better numbers than Davis.

If they ignore Davis again tonight that's fine with me. I think he's their best weapon on offense and on paper I don't like how we match up with that guy.
