Have to believe the team's view of Adams played a major role in the release of Daniels.

Very encouraging to see, if in fact, Adams is making what sounds like significant progress. That's a high pick that was looking disappointing "Pre Pettine".

I will be really interested to see how Kyler Fackrell looks in 2019. Pettine has had a reputation of making non super star type players look very good. Maybe Adams will be another one. Just heard some sound bites from Preston Smith RE: the Pettine defense. Smith was very complimentary about this defensive system and said he "really likes it".  You seem to hear that a lot with players being introduced into his system.

Every young fan's heart is a flutter this time of year.  Let's see where everyone is after 2 weeks.

That said, it is encouraging to hear Pettine talk up Adams like that.  He doesn't strike me as a guy to fluff anybody.

β€œWhen I first got here (last year), my opinion wasn’t real high. And he knows that,” Pettine said. β€œWe challenged him, and (defensive line coach) Jerry Montgomery has done an outstanding job with Mon. And Mon has taken the challenge. He came back from the offseason, he lost a bunch of weight. By the end of last year, he was playing some quality minutes for us and made some plays. I wouldn’t have predicted that. He’s a guy we’re going to depend on.”

Montravious had a pretty significant stress fracture his rookie year. A Foot injury is not good for anyone, especially when you weigh 300lbs and rely on quickness. He was getting good reviews in his rookie camp and was coming off some seriously good tape coming out of Auburn.  Had to be a significant set-back. Sounds like he's taking this seriously which is good news for Packer fans. Saw a bunch of him at Auburn and if we get a similar version of that ... lookout. Guy was very disruptive.

Whoah!!!! The DOG's watchin' tape too! WOOF!

Seriously, I think this Packers defense is going to be lights out in the NFL this season. They added a ton of great new talent over the last two offseasons, and it looks like it is coming together nicely. We should see the D get better and better as the season progresses, as players become more comfortable in their roles, and Pettine becomes more confident calling their numbers.

If we can stay relatively healthy, I am confident they can be a Top 5 D this year.

We could be headed for the upside down season where everybody &itches about the offense not holding up their end of the deal.  In the best scenario, it ends up like 2010 where the offense sputters through November while the D keeps them within striking distance, then hits high gear in December.

I will be using this rubber stamp all season.

Well, so much for the 2019 Packers season.

Exactly PackLandVA, don't go overboard on the Super Bowl predictions this early or you could find yourself thinking purple is a nice color for a uniform.

It could be weird to start season PacklandVA. Offense usually takes a while, getting everybody to know their assignments and all the checks, etc. I think this D will be quite good, barring injury. I'm hoping they stay healthy and realize their potential. Could carry us while O gets up to speed.

I'm amazed at the talent infusion over two offseasons. I haven't seen that kind of thing in GB, maybe ever.

Gutekunst seems to have a gift for finding talent, and value.

Yeah.... wild. Who knew? Douche.

Why do you have to be so wet... so medicated... so, disposable... so bent...?

I'll let you know after you cut your ear off 72 Hour Van Gogh.

You're crossing eras. Reggie was the very start of Free Agency as we know it today. I know what that team was. I know the talent amassed, and how. It took Wolf 6 years before we had that full stable of players that won SB XXXI.

I'm just saying it is impressive what Gutekunst has done in two to date.

So "ever" doesn't mean "ever".  I'd call you hyperbolic but that just doesn't cover it.

Hey Crooked Bubbler, ever hear of the word, "MAYBE?"

Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle...

"I'm just saying it is impressive what Gutekunst has done in two to date."

To date he's assembled a 6-9-1 team. He appears unattached to player from the previous regime. I'm hopeful he will be as cold blooded with his own mistakes.

I hope they're better this year. Bears fans think the Bears are better. Minnesota fans think the Vikings are better. I can't imagine what Lions fans think. But no one has achieved anything yet this year.

Grignon,

To date he’s done much more than that. Which players are you referring to exactly? Matthews, Cobb, Daniels, Perry, Spriggs, Randall, Burnett, Clinton-Dix, Nelson, Hundley, Montgomery had to have been difficult decisions, Nelson & Matthews possibly his biggest. Each and every one of them a difficult value and cap decision. Have you looked at what their cap figures were?

Cold blooded? He was a part of the personnel team that brought all of those players here. Gutekunst started as a scout for Thompson in 1998.

He inherited a 7-9 team, with enormous cap issues and underperforming players. He ushered in Aaron Rodgers’ new deal.

He cleared more that $90M off of our cap to help make that happen, while restocking his team with the best value players he could find.

5 players accounted for over 30% of our 2017 cap, none of them named Rodgers.

Matthews 15M Cobb 12.7 Nelson 11.5 Daniels 10.1 Burnett 7. Altogether those five cost more than $55M.

The full 2017 cap listing is wild:
