WTF are you talking about? I didn't mention punts.
Crosby has had different holders and continues to thrive.
Boyle can do whatever during the week and still a few minutes to set place kicks, not to mention the potential for trick plays with a qb on the field.

The backup QB should spend as much time as possible with the offense. Why have Boyle take time to work with the longsnapper and the kicker when the punter doesn't have anywhere near have as much to work on. They might as well work with the long-snapper (who they work with on punt snaps) and the placekicker.

Poor take. Very unlike you. Ever been to a Packers practice? The offense and special teams rarely run drills at the same time.

I had heard the rationale I’m basing this on from a Belichick interview

the original interview was in the Boston Herald and quoted by Wikipedia

New England Patriots' head coach Bill Belichick explained that punters are generally holders for the reason that punters and kickers usually have more time together to game plan, watch film, and are able to have more reps during practice than a player who has to play another position.

Because if the punter gets injured, which rarely happens, but if it does the #2 QB is usually the spare holder.  That late FG usually is a game winner or loser.

Happy New Year!

Exactly. Jordan Love is not Rich Campbell or Brian Brohm who didn't have the physical talent to play in the NFL. The consensus is that he has the arm strength and physical skills to succeed in the NFL. The problem was decision-making and reading coverages. The problem is that the best way to learn and improve that part of the game is live game reps. He needs to play as many preseason snaps as possible.

I think he's likely to be like Jameis Winston. The question will be whether you can coach him up to get the 30+ TD seasons without the 30 interceptions to go along with it (Winston's 2019 season totals).

Bunch a haters here.  Jordan Love is the only rookie QB to make the playoffs this year!  Eat your damn crow.

I liked this tweet, but when I looked he isn't the only one.

Jake Fromm (Bills) and Jacob Eason (Colts) also made it. Of course, they were 5th and 4th round choices and they didn't play a single snap either.

In all seriousness, Gutey is either going to look like a genius when the Packers win the Super Bowl and also set themselves up to be set at QB for the next 10 years as well, or he's going to be criticized for the rest of his career if they come up short and everyone wonders whether adding immediate contributors with those 1st and 4th round picks would have gotten them over the hump.

You mean, like in his sophomore year when he wasn’t expected to play with 10 stick figures?

freaking Packer fans are soooo starved for any nugget about the guy that a net drill is news. I too look forward to something more substantial than successfully tying his shoes. But alas, the long winter of newslessness is upon us.

Harkens back to high school. Warm Spring day in the Midwest when the the young ladies trade their heavy winter sweaters for more revealing spring gear and we get to see what blossomed over the winter.

What if they don’t win the SB but end up with a really good QB in Love? That’s a third possibility, right?

Yes. In that case, I think Love has to be a perennial Pro Bowler to make his selection worth it. If he ends up being a Cousins/Tannehill type I would say it wasn't worth it.
