Getting two first round draft picks in one of the best receiver drafts in recent memory while implementing a draft plan of moving up in the second round to get a receiver no one really wanted anyway but you're forced to move up out of desperation of not getting a single receiver at all is the most Packers draft thing ever.

We are literally a draft class/FA trade away from a Super Bowl, and they mailed it in with stupidity.

lol. that’s one way to look at it. here’s another:  the professional scouts employed by the team didn’t think any of the wideouts available last night were worth trading up for or taking with picks 22 or 28.

I think that's pretty harsh just simply because you're literally taking a rookie, no matter how talented, and putting the role of not only #1 but #2 on his shoulders.  Watkins and Cobb are going to be bit players because they can't stay on the field.

Do they need WR? Badly.  I just think they are better off trying to patch together an offense using the established skill players at other positions with the help of a rookie WR.  They fucked up the WR position with the Love draft.  Scrambling to fill the void at WR in one draft is a huge gamble.  Build out the defense to be able to bail out/win week in and week out at this point.  Rodgers is still Rodgers and the backfield is beastly.  It's not ideal but shape the offense around what you've got and hope the rookie WR comes up big.

Best receiver drafts in recent history?

Not even close.  Look just back to last year.

Chase had 1500 yards and 13 TDs.  Waddle had 100+ catches.  Kyle Pitts (glorified WR) had almost 70 catches and 1000+ yards.  Devonta Smith put up similar numbers to Pitts.

There isn’t one WR in this years draft that’s as good as any of those four.  I see a lot more Rashod Bateman’s and Rondale Moore’s- solid but not spectacular guys.

I’m thrilled with their first two picks because if one or both play close to their potential this could be a legit top 5 defense in 2022.   Yes they need to add another WR or two.  But not at the expense of reaching or overpaying.

They fucked up the Love pick.  Not sure I agree they fucked up the WR position, although, Amari Rodgers looks like a horrible pick at this point.

Besides, don’t we have confidence in our running game and our all world QB and OC to figure things out?   Let’s see what happens.  Simply changing out the idiot special teams coach probably got them another win or two.

It's hard to argue otherwise at this point.  If that pick had been Tee Higgins or Michael Pittman Jr., both made a whole lot of sense at that point, the WR concern would be alleviated.  That's not even much of a reach in hindsight; they needed a WR in 2020 and it was the deepest WR class in history.  But is what it is.

Revised 2nd round mock from ESPN...says we get Metchie at 53...probably because Pickens and Watson are gone...he's still a year out from playing because of ACL.

2nd pick of 2nd round they say OT Nicholas Petit-Frere from Ohio Taint...I see that spot as a potential trade back for us...maybe get into the early 3rd and take a TE there, and then get a WR later in the 3rd also.

Rather than Metchie, I could see us going with USC's Edge Drake Jackson, or Wash St. OT Abraham Lucas who I think is going to be a star RT and tremendous backup LT for someone.

Strawman.  Simple fact is you actually have to draft more than one WR in the 3rd over multiple years to actually develop a WR corp.  Shotgunning in the mid rounds or hoping UDFAs pan out is not a great strategy.

There is also a very popular opinion that because GB has been so successful drafting 2nd-3rd WR's during AR's era that they could easily do it again.  All that success at WR was under TT and several scouts and execs that have moved on.  Gute has so far shown no ability to find good mid round receivers.

I don't think the cupboard in GB is as bare as some would lead us to believe.  Certainly more talent needs to be added there and Adams left a gaping hole at WR1, but Cobb, Lazard and Watkins can all play.  I'm also not writing off Amari.  He can make a big jump from year 1 to 2.  This also doesn't account for any veteran pickups that may come in before the season starts.

Not trying to toss out rainbows and butterflies, but GB is going to be fine.

The "talking heads" on the NFL channel had Jermane Johnson as a top ten pick. As he was still available when the Pack picked, am I missing something on him or were the two we picked a better fit for us?

Asking for a friend...

A possibility of a few things:

1. More teams are using analytics, which really favors guys who are 21 or 20. Johnson is 23.

2. How were his interviews?

3. Are there any medical concerns?

4. One good year after transfer when couldn't break Georgia Lineup. (Hard to hold that one against him, IMO)

1. This is a solid draft for receivers, but likely not as good, at least at the top, as the previous two. It appears quite deep, though, especially since so many guys took advantage of the extra year of eligibility.

2. With depth, there's less reason to reach or over spend early since the drop off to the next tier is less.

It's not bare but there are lots of chips and cracks in the plates.

IMO this WR draft class, particularly the top ones, will prove to be overrated.

If they had 6 guys scouted as 1st rounders and all were gobbled up, it would be a reach at 22 to get a guy they had projected to be lower. The fact that KC jumped them and surprisingly took a cb tells me wr was off the table once those 6 guys were gone. Wyatt was taken at 28 after no more wrs drafted in between. There's a plan at wr and it will unfold, most likely starting tonight. I'd much rather have confidence in Gute/MLF understanding the need for guys to throw the ball to than some reactionary reach to appease some jittery fans. If they have targeted second tier wrs they are confident can fit the system and play a role, and it directs the qb to play further within the system, there may be much less flash but much more efficiency as opposed to a year ago. Or they plan to lighten Rodgers' load the way Denver did for Manning. Defense and running game.
