I don't think he was saying Savage on PS

Savage is either on the 53 or PUP, right??

Unless I’m reading it wrong, looks like he has Savage on the PS.

I mean, is Savage even injured? He’d have to go on IR if he were.  But I’m not aware he’s injured.

I did not know what Savage's status was. Is he injured? If so, I stashed him on the PS to make room for either Carpenter or Moore.  Has Savage improved, in camp, over his play last season. Maybe another reason I had him on the PS. I put Gaines on the PS, as well. Larry McCarren had a video of Gaines on his Rock Report show, in which he sang Gaines's praises. Let's see everyone else's 53 predictions. Is Savage on your 53?

I just meant Savage would never make it to any teams practice squad because he’d be scooped up by another team’s 53. By all accounts, he’s had a good/very good camp. He appears to be the clear cut starter. And the Packers wouldn’t take an $8 million cap hit.

Not meant as a personal attack, just an observation.

The RB everybody has forgotten is Tyler Goodson.  He had a great pre-season last year and made the practice squad.  No word on the shoulder injury he received in the Cinncy game.   He was elevated to the active roster for 1 game in 2022 season vs. Vikings by did not appear in the game.  Will the Packers try to put him on the practice squad again because he has experience over Wilson?   It's possible.

Savage was pretty bad last year but is still the best safety on the team which isn't saying a lot as it is our weakest position group. Hopefully he bounces back from a bad year. Hoping Rudy Ford and Anthony Johnson Jr can step up as well. Some feel Savage struggled more last year due to how Barry used him.

A little like being the skinniest girl at the fat farm.

Doubt the Packers picked up his expensive option just to waive him.

Locks

QB: Love, Clifford

RB: Dillon, Jones

WR: Watson, Doubs, Reed

TE: Musgrave, Kraft

OL: Bahk, Jenkins, Tom, Runyan, Wallace

DL: Clark, Slaton, Wyatt, Brooks, Wooden

LB: Campbell, Walker, Enagbare, VanNess, Gary - Preston Smith not putting him as a lock

CB: Jaire, Douglass, Nixon

Safety: Savage (Ford is close but not 100% lock)

-----

I have 28 locks. A couple OL are close, same for WR. I might be able to stretch it to 32 but I think some trades/redshirting might happen. I cannot lock Josh Myers for instance or Samari Toure. I have them as a "likely"

We know Gutey doesn't cut draft selections in their first year. Lots of moves, changes can and will happen. The roster is a living breathing thing. Trades, injuries, etc.

I believe Savage improved as the season progressed last year. It took him a long time to get back to normal after the injury playing on the kickoff team.

He did play better the last couple of games of the year after his demotion. Hopefully he can build on that but his tackling has not been good.

Found on the internet: Put Caleb jones in at tight end as a 6th lineman on 3rd and short and goalline situations a couple times this year.

I've been saying that for awhile now.  No way he doesn't move the pile forward, he's massive.

I would say with Wilson, Goodson is expendable.

Savage is my only "lock" at Safety

On what planet do you think he would not make the final 53?

If playing nickel or dime is what qualifies him as a Safety, then Savage may make the 53. Keeping him for his mediocre Safety play, outside of nickel and dime packages, is questionable, at best. The main reason Savage stays is because the other Safeties in this group, haven't impressed anyone, yet. They all seem to be interchangeable. I thought Owens would show more playing ability. Moore, too. Any one of them could make the PS, including Savage.

Savage is a 1st round selection and the only safety currently on the roster worth keeping. The dude CAN play....the question is.....will he?

Ford is at least average. He's a "likely to stick"

Let's see if Barry uses him correctly this season.

Found on the internet and I don't know if it's true: McGough will be the 3rd string QB no doubt. The new NFL rule allows the Packers to keep a 3rd stringer on their 53 man roster without it counting towards the 53. Meaning if Love and Clifford would ever go down with injuries or be disqualified during a game, McGough would fill in. However, the Packers can't move the third stringer around back and forth to Development team. They have to lock in with one player. For some reason if he would get injured during the week in practices leading up to games, the Packers would be allowed to add him to IR list, and replace him with a new 3rd stringer QB replacement. Interesting new rule

I like this new rule. It would allow for a team with a young guy who was a low draft choice to hang on to him for a year or so to see if he actually develops. They probably would have done that with Clifford if he hadn't turned out to be much better than anyone hoped for. But in GB's case, Clifford's being much better than advertised and this new 53 rule allows GB to hang on to another young guy in McGough. Interesting rule, and good for the game.

My Prediction:

QB (3): Love, Clifford, McGough

RB (3): Jones, Dillon, Taylor

WR (7): Watson, Doubs, Reed, Toure, Heath, Wicks, DuBose

TE (3): Musgrave, Kraft, Deguara

OL (9): Bakhtiari, Jenkins, Runyan, Myers, Tom, Walker, Jones, Rhyan, Nijman

DL (5): Clark, Wyatt, Slaton, Wooden, Brooks

Edge (6): Gary, Smith, VanNess, Enagbare, Hollins, Cox

LB (4): Campbell, Walker, McDuffie, Carpenter

CB (5): Alexander, Douglas, Nixon, Ballentine, Valentine

Safety (5): Savage, Ford, Owens, Moore, Leavitt

Kicker: Carlson

Punter: Whelan

LS: Orzech

Stokes on PUP

They'll look for a TE off waivers and someone will go to the PS, probably Cox.

Benzene,   if McGough doesn't count against the 53 you only have 52 on your list. Who else you got?   You think they will cut O'Donnell?   I don't.  Carlson has been working with him as the holder all camp.

I think that interpretation is wrong.  McGough does count against the 53.  He just wouldn't count against the game day roster.

Full language of the updated bylaw:

One hour and 30 minutes prior to kickoff, each club is required to establish its Active List for the game by notifying the Referee of the players on its Inactive List for that game. Each club may also designate one emergency third quarterback from its 53-player Active/Inactive List (i.e., elevated players are not eligible for designation) who will be eligible to be activated during the game, if the club's first two quarterbacks on its game day Active List are not able to participate in the game due to injury or disqualification (activation cannot be a result of a head coach's in-game decision to remove a player from the game due to performance or conduct). If either of the injured quarterbacks is cleared by the medical staff to return to play, the emergency third quarterback must be removed from the game and is not permitted to continue to play quarterback or any other position, but is eligible to return to the game to play quarterback if another emergency third quarterback situation arises.

A club is not eligible to use these procedures if it carries three quarterbacks on its game day Active List [47- or 48-players in 2023].

The party of the first part, heretofore known as the "team" may designate an emergency QB, in the unlikely event of a water landing, and may, therefore,  use that designated QB as a floatation device provided no other means of floatation is available......
