This defense doesn't do anything well. They can't generate any pressure; not with four, five or six rushers. DBs cannot knock WRs off of their timing on short routes.  They get burned deep. They can't stop the run. They're just hopeless. It's coaching when a unit cannot do anything well. There are guys out there with talent (enough to at least look half-way competent), it's just being wasted by idiots with a rigid belief in their "system".

There's no excuse for giving up 500 yards of offense to a dome team on a wet, soggy grass field. It's just pitiful. Total incompetence.

This.  Was at the game and I just knew every time NO was in third and long they would convert.  No pressure, poor tackling, no adjustments.   For those who think it's more on the players than the coach, take a look at Notre Dame.   They finally dumped their ****ty d coordinator last year and brought in Mike Elko.  Now they're 100% better on D with likely less talent.

I would like to see a candidate like McDermott.  A guy who was a long time disciple of a guy like Jim Johnson.  Not some guy who had a cup of coffee with a DC or a product of the system. See Romeo Crennel and Gus Bradley.

We started this season with the perception and confidence the strength of this defense was going to be the backfield. A couple of veteran S that had been playing well (one at an All-Pro level), a couple of very promising draft picks, high draft pick players with experience returning from injury, a couple of experienced UFDAs, and re-acquired House.

At the 1/4 pole, the Ss have regressed from last year (not just a little bit) and are playing poorly, the CBs can't cover a bed with a blanket, and tackling is poor much more often than not.
The only constants are "mis-communications", not having the ability to cover a RB or TE (especially over the middle!), and allowing impossibly long 3rd down conversions. Oh, and being carved like a Thanksgiving turkey against high-power offenses, theres that, too....
The only change I see so far this year is the addition of players who just don't care. Last week was Randall pussing out, this week it's House getting his ankles broke on a juke, wildly flailing his arms at a guy already 5 yards past him. I might excuse that from a first-year UFDA, but from a 7th-year player?
Meanwhile...No accountability, no discipline (self or external), no nothing.

If MM did dismiss Capers, I would want to see him open the position up for interviews with no preconceived notion of who he wanted. See who has the best plan for the defenders we have, along with a strong ascending background.

What made me laugh is the Saints didn’t think twice about going for it on 4th down In the first quarter.

Maybe when part of the core defensive philosophy is playing with a 5 yard cushion in man to man coverage teams think you’re a joke.

I truly believe opposing teams fear individual players on defense but know the scheme is predictably unpredictable to the point of where the talent of players is actually neutered.    Game planning for the Packers D is stroking The Wizard’s ego so he and MM think he’s relevant.

What's predictable is that once they find something that works against a Capers defense they can use it all day because no adjustments will be made.  Brees abused the Packers all day with short throws over the middle.

This. Capers doesn't play to the strengths of his guys nor does he "line up and dare them to beat you." Instead he is always mixing, matching, scheming, and conniving to the detriment of the talent he has. Overall, he has good players; all he has to do is put them in position to play and let them go. Quit with the wizard stuff!

There's only 1 thing that will get me watching the game in 2 weeks. Firing Dom Capers. Otherwise the Red zone channel has no commercials. I'll be watching that.

And in the end when he gives the job to Whitt or Moss all the Mikey apologists will step forward and try to convince everyone what a genius move it is

Dom Capers defense TWICE went with 10 guys on the field yesterday.

Not once, happened two times.

By the by, that's not the first time it's happened this season. His defense did it again about 2 weeks ago resulting in a huge 25 yard gashing run play against Dom.

That cannot fuc**** happen. Ever.

All those years of questionable inside linebacker play and questioning the ability of Moss and this year the ILB's finally start playing a little better and the D-backs fall apart.  Now we have to question Whitt.  I sure hope a house cleaning is in order.

Stats:

234 points per game, 11th in NFL

310 Yrds per game, 23rd

208.4 pass yards, 23rd

101.6  rush yards  20th

23.0 points allowed  20th

348.9 yards allowed 22nd

223.1 pass yards allowed 16th

125.7  rush yards allowed 27th

wow, bad, bad, and more bad right???

I knew it was bad, but 234 points per game?  That's just another level of bad.

Big mistake letting Micah Hyde go.  He's been huge for a totally revamped Bills secondary.   I'd take him in a heartbeat over HaHa.

I don't think Mike McCarthy is ever going to fire Dom. To do so would be admitting he made a mistake, that the past several seasons since the Super Bowl win have been been squandered. He should have been fired after that last-ranked, dumpster fire 2011 defense (if your defense ranks dead last in the NFL, you're bad at your job and you need to be fired). He definitely should have been fired after that 579 yard, 45 point disaster at Candlestick the next season.

Ted will never tell Mike what to do with his own coaching staff, so Dom will keep his job as long as Mike does.

Finally, we can all agree Dom Capers sucks.   It only took six years, but here we are.    Reminds me of the AJ Hawk debate that went on for 6 years as well.

Anyway, the responsibility ultimately falls on TT.    If MM is not willing to pull that trigger, he needs to force his hand.   Not doing so makes him liable.

Many of us have been saying this for years, when #12 retires with one SuperBowl win, history will look back on Ted Thompson and he will be considered a failure and rightfully so.

It isn't the Packers style or MM's to fire a DC in the middle of the season.  I can however seeing that happen about 24 hours after the end of the season if the Packers are way out of it.  But I think he gets another pass if they make the playoffs.

One thing to think about and that is Ernest Dominic Capers is 67 and would be 68 before next year so I wonder if "retirement" could happen soon?

Nah, just like how so many fans are currently misremembering how AJ was nothing more than an average run stopper who was constantly exposed in the passing game, 2-3 years after Dom has finally been put out to pasture, there will be a segment of the fan base that insists he was a defensive guru and injuries, or lack of talent, or bad luck conspired to prevent the Dominator from unleashing the full fury of his D on the rest of the NFL over the last many years of his reign in Green Bay.

He'll be inducted into the Packer HOF and lauded as the OUTSTANDING FOOTBALL COACH by the man who has stood by him lo these many years.

Yes, yes, and more yes.

You could not be more right Pack-Man.

Coaching makes the difference.  Sean McDermott came in to the Bills and simplified their defense and has them playing again at a high level (yesterday's point total to the Bucs notwithstanding).  I still admire Vic Fangio, who has the Bears defense playing at a respectable level given a ton of injuries at linebacker and CBs you couldn't name, with an impotent offense and rookie QB to boot.  And Wade Phillips was already mentioned above.

I recall complaints from our DBs in years past about Dom's defense being complicated, communication issues, etc.  I'm not sure what it's going to take to turn this defense around. Bend, but don't break won't work with the Hundley-led O being a work-in-progress and the inability to sustain drives. The rookies (King and Jones) are already playing and are taking their lumps. Martinez has stepped up, Clark is playing really, really well and Perry looks healthy.  I think there are a lot of good pieces on the D.  Maybe simplify things so they can play faster, start getting snaps for M. Adams as an interior rusher, settle on a DB group (I know injuries are a part of that).  After the bye, the D will have all of it's preferred starters assuming Burnett is back.  There are no excuses any longer.

I believe this sentiment is echoed ever year for the past couple of seasons.

Maybe TT needs to force MM's hand.  And if he won't, then maybe Murphy needs to force TT's hand.

Season to-date, 6 of 7 4th down attempts against Packers D have been converted into 1st down.

Indeed it does - look at how bad the Falcons offense is this year with Shanahan out. The only time the Falcons looked like the offense from last year was against the Packers - what does that say about Dom?

Dom Capers is not just an OUTSTANDING coach, but he is also the LONGEST SERVING defensive coordinator in the NFL.

I get the feeling Dom is in Green Bay for as long as he wants and certainly as long as Mike McCarthy is the head coach.

I'm not sure AR is going to stand for this much longer. The look of disgust in a recent game when he marched down the field to give the Packers a lead only to watch Dom's defense give it back was rather telling.

Despite the tumult it could cause, I would not mind seeing Dom shown the door right now. Since the chances of Hundley holding down the fort right now look pretty slim, let the new guy learn his personnel for the rest of this year. It can't get a whole lot worse and will probably get a whole lot better.
