As far as Raji goes, save the money on someone who is motivated to play.  I think Raji has been smoking too many blunts because he sure seems like a lazy SOB.

I liked this series of tweets from Wilde last night:

I think I'm done with Twitter for tonight. I leave you with what Ted Thompson's dad, Jimmy, said to me in '07. (It'll take multiple Tweets.)

"I thought for a while that he ought to be spending more money on some of these high-priced fellas. But he's taking the approach ...

"... with these young players, and I kinda think it may work out. Ted says a lot of these big-name free-agent players ...

"... they're on the decline but they still rank a big salary. He thinks the better way to go is to build." ~ Jimmy Thompson, 2007

The successful teams like GB, NE, PIT, NYG, etc. know you have to keep the talent you have developed from the beginning. He doesn't lose guys in free agency that he wants to keep, guys he believes will help GB win, because he signs them before they hit the market. He gambles a lot that the player will continue to ascend after he re-signs them, in some cases he has been proven right (like Jordy Nelson) and in some cases he has been proven wrong (AJ Hawk).

I like how some sports sites are giving free agency grades to teams.  Based upon what?  The amount of money they've spent so far and/or the PAST performance of the players signed?  Hard to really give a grade until after a couple years just like draft grades.  I'm guessing TT has rarely received a good grade based upon free agent signings.

That's true, but any season which doesn't end with a Super Bowl win opens the possibility that in retrospect management ought to have done more in FA.

Wow, good point. It will be so much cheaper though to back up Arod with another superstar QB. Trade for Brady and pay him 18 million a year or acquire Ware, Talib and Ward for 30 million a year? I say, trade for Brady tightwad Ted.

What we need here, guys, is a meeting in the middle.

Of course, we can't afford a QB like Brady or Manning, nor can we afford another clusterf*** like Vince Young/Seneca Wallace, but we can afford some first-round talent. That's right, I'm talking Christian Ponder, bitches!!

Think about it; he meets all of our requirements for backup QB:

Veteran presence, game experience, leadership, and we won't have to break the bank for him.

I know TT can make a trade for him! Just do it Ted!!!

Well, fellers, that's it. That's the end of free-agency right there.

It kind of is. How good can a player be if even MD Jennings was signed before him.

The should hand out plaques to everyone who signs from here on out and call them Conte Awards.
