Who do you want as a new coach:  Someone with defensive background.  The offense will be fine with AR and whoever the new OC is.

Then why wasn't it fine this year?

Anyone interested enough to see the staff he compiled in Tennessee?  I personally am not but it could be a good indicator of where Munchak would steer this team.

Pretty interesting back story with Munchak in TN. He was offered an extension in January 2014 provided he agreed to fire his OC, DC, OL coach and LB coach. In all there were 6 coaches he was asked to fire before an extension would be offered. He declined and was immediately fired.

His OC was Dowell Loggains (currently OC in Miami who’s boss just got canned). His DC was Jerry Gray who is currently secondary coach in MInny.

Good read here.

Sounds even more like McCarthy. For better or worse, McCarthy was very loyal to his assistants.

Could be he just got burned out and the game passed him by.  Happened to Wolf, not a big revelation.

I thought Wolf was quoted as saying he hated working with all be bureaucracy of the salary cap. He clearly could have continued for many more years had he wanted.

I think there is something very medically wrong with TT.

Wolf said the game passed him by, and was referring to the cap aspect IIRC.

I believe Thomoson was in Atlanta(TX) over holidays visiting his family that lives in that area still.

Yeah, it was a lot to do with the cap, etc. but he took the same path as a consultant.  I probably should've said the philosophy didn't work well with the modern NFL and you could say the same for TT.

Simply saying everything is unconfirmed.  Do I doubt TT has some medical issues?  No, not really but it could be anything from exhaustion to slippin' a gear.

This is a good point. Folks seem to think that “the offense will be fine” but it isn’t, it wasn’t, and won’t be until they figure everything out up front and update the scheme to get the ball out of Rodgers’ hand sooner. #12 needs to buy into that, too...

Seeing Quenton Nelson in this playoff game has been enlightening. He is destroying guys along a very good DL. Add a guy like that to Bakh and Linsley and that would go a long way to fixing the offense.

Luck is playing well and the plays are creative, but the big thing is that Luck has time to drop back, check the wind direction, measure the barometric pressure, and bend down and tie his shoes before he throws. He has all day against a very good DL.

Yep, that is enlightening if not reaffirming what many have seen.  That Seattle game will live on in infamy.

Have him weedle info if Uncle Ted lost his marbles or not.

He also lost his brother soon after.  Can't underestimate the effect that could've had on him.

Nobody. I mean Nobody would be ok with Murphy signing a guy like Frank Reich. He’s a 57 year old guy that twisted around from place to place.

But he was smart enough to take the Indy gig and signed two young geniuses to run the offense and defense and coached them up.

Will those young guys stay? No. But those two geniuses he hired will make it easier to find two more geniuses because the groundwork is in place. They will make their openings desirable. Frank Reich is smart.

Good coaches aren’t afraid good assistants might take their job.

As it is approaching 1 week since the season ended, I find it mildly surprising the coaching staff is still intact and in place. Ones who may still be under contract should have their end-of-season responsibilities handled by now, and can look forward to next season until they hear otherwise. Those that aren't I thought would be gone by now.

They're still under contract, yes?

The new HC will want his guys. Don't worry, their firings are imminent.

I think ChilliJon mentioned it earlier....you don't fire guys until the new HC gets here.

Real people w/real families....not fantasy football

You can bet all the assistants have for weeks been "networking", trying to maximize their opportunities in other places. Tough job for families ..... job instability is tougher on them, changing schools, leaving friends, etc.

Packer job is the only interview he has had so far.

The track record of these guys isn't exactly glowing.

Eight of Belichick's assistant coaches have become NFL head coaches:

I’m not sure where Arians gets off thinking he can pick and choose where he wants to coach.

His .333 playoff winning % shouldn’t exactly have teams fighting for his services.

Plus he’s one heart scare away from a forced retirement.

He’d fit in well in Tampa with their low expectations.

He just doesn't care for Green Bay. That's the impression I've gotten from him, anyway. No love lost, he can keep his distance. But I'd rather not see him in CLE as I hope they get it right like I think they are doing. At this point I'm leaning toward Lafleur or Campbell. I think one of those guys could be like a Frank Reich- known around the league and respected but not a huge darling of the media. Come in and quietly get to work and right the ship.

A week or 2 ago, I thought McDaniels would be a really good choice for the Pack.  As I've heard other posters and pundits make some really good observations, McDaniels is lower on my personal opinion list than he was when they started this process.  He's clearly a smart guy, but based on some things from his past, he may be the riskiest hire out of all the candidates.

If Arians was staying in the South (AZ previously, now possibly Tampa), I would guess he doesn't want to coach in a cold-weather town.
Of course, if he's hot to trot for Cleveland, that would blow that theory all to hell.

Green Bay has no interest in Arians

Or should they IMHO.  I think we can all agree that the majority of us want a younger innovative coach.  Not a guy who is almost 67 years old and in 5 years with the Cardinals he had 1 division title and was 1-2 in the playoffs.

He would fall in to the "hard pass" catagory of coaches.
