Iā€™d avoid the fat shaming because like 1/2 the damn country is fat.  The other 1/2 grow out their idiotic looking neck beards and look like they want to audition for the Spin Doctors.

At least we are #1 for something

Let me guess, you have a factory defect on your Pontiac Grand Am because each time you drive by BK it just happens to turn into the parking lot and auto pilot to the drive thru.

MM is fat.  Heā€™s skinny compared to Bret Bielema but JFC mix in a salad and a treadmill

Why is fat shaming a bad thing?   If a person chooses to do meth until their teeth rot there is no problem with shaming them.  What's the difference between that and eating sugar or whatever your food drug of choice is until you are shaped like a pear?

It's not so much that but for Skippy to suggest players aren't going to respect McCarthy because he's fat is pretty stupid. Has Skippy taken a good look at NFL head coaches? I guess players don't respect Andy Reid. Bruce Ariens isn't exactly a picture of health. Bill Parcells looked like a damn whale most of the time. Anyone want to see Mike Holmgren in a speedo?

Most of these guys had the respect of their players and the media. If the Cowboys don't respect McCarthy it's not because he's fat. It might be because he's a meathead.

I think a lot of these guys get fat because of the amount of time they work and the stress involved in the job. Some of them slim down quite a bit once they get away from that career. Somehow McCarthy seemed to get even bigger after taking a year off, go figure.

MM was never fit to begin with but man, heā€™s really let himself go.

Then again, take a look around.  We have an obesity issue this country.  Hell, if you are 25 pounds overweight you are probably in the minority. For all the talk about C19, what we should be focused on is general health because the virus attacks and exposes those that havenā€™t taken care of themselves and/or have comorbidities like diabetes and high blood pressure.

As for Dallas, itā€™s amazing that some people think thatā€™s a playoff team.  Maybe they will get there, but I just donā€™t see it.  Dak has to stay healthy and just like Wentz thatā€™s not likely based on his history.

I know many reqally fit people who have diabetes or blood pressure problems. Many times it is just genetics, but for a dumbass like you it is just too easy to say it's fat people.

Supermarkets have been around a long time.  Same thing with fast food places.

As kids, we grew up active and werenā€™t allowed to sit in front of the TV all day.  We werenā€™t allowed to eat junk food (options were more limited) and going out to eat wasnā€™t a common thing either.

You get older and priorities change but yeah I get it.  Itā€™s harder to stay in shape and health issues can pop up but the vast majority of people that are obese are due to their own choices.  Diet, exercise, etc.

People are freaking out about criticizing MMs weight but there are a lot of MMs out there. Just take a look around you.   He just happens to be in the spotlight.

You make a lot of good points. The difference relative to many others in MM's physical situation is that they don't work a job that often requires multiple 18 hour days a week for 4 consecutive months.

It's the combination of stress and obesity that really kills people. For many in this country, that's the stress of trying to figure out how to pay their mortgage, car payments, and medical bills while trying to feed their families.

MM has millions of dollars in the bank and what appears to be a great family. For all his perceived faults as a coach, he is a fundamentally decent guy who I hope can say healthy enough to enjoy his grandchildren.

It isn't so much the supermarket. It's an agricultural system that uses federal and state subsidies to grow millions of acres of corn that has only one purpose - to be fed into gigantic high-fructose corn syrup production plants to enable corn syrup to be put into almost everything.

It's an older documentary now, but "King Corn" captured this well. It came up during the Field of Dreams game this week when two of the players tried to eat the corn in the field and spit it out because it tasted so bad. It's been selectively bred to optimize production of corn syrup at the expense of more nutritious aspects (not to mention all the acreage that could be used to grow other things to diversify the food supply).  If the people living next to the cornfield had to depend on it to survive, they'd all starve to death.

Eating healthy is so expensive.  We can fill two grocery carts (and a landfill) with shit food compared to the basket of anything unprocessed.  I grow my own green beans, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, beets (bears), zucchini and cukes.  I share with folks who have the space to grow corn, melons and potatoes.  I love weeding a garden because I am a masochist.  We buy local beef from a buddy and pork from another farmer we know.  Canned my own pasta  sauce this weekend, salsa next weekend.

I'll still polish of a Jacks pizza for lunch.  I no longer drink soda of any kind, but I do love my craft beers, so it's probably a wash for my waistline.  Like everyone else on this forum I am a dietician, geneticist and medical doctor, so I do notice that you can have two people with nearly the same diet and one will balloon and the other is a stupid ass wafer.

in closing, so glad MM is no longer our coach.

Not that Iā€™m a big fan of the intermittent fasting but it is interesting how you can adjust your eating habits and holy crap your body will adjust as well.

Iā€™ve cut back on dairy and beef but still enjoy things like ice cream and a decent ribeye.  The challenge is not overindulging given typical portion sizes.

Growing your own stuff can also be a lot of fun but not always easy to do in Wisconsin in the colder months.

Sweet corn is the bomb.

No no no, choice must be the only factor in weight, otherwise we can't blame them and if we can't blame them we can't devalue them.

My dad is under 6ā€™ and plus 300.  Heā€™s  has had a triple bypass.   My mother was damn near 300 and dies from heart disease.    I put on 10 pounds during a 5 day vacation where I eat and drink whatever and as much as I want.

Yes, itā€™s not an even playing field but thatā€™s not an excuse to have poor discipline.   Because Iā€™m at risk, and it seems genetically predisposed to be a lard ass, I work hard to stay lean and healthy.   Itā€™s not that expensive and itā€™s not that hard, it just takes discipline and will power.  When the guys at work get cheesesteaks and fries, I eat my pre packed chicken, rice and broccoli.   I use an hour of my free time to exercise five times a week.   Of course I would rather get Arbyā€™s and take a nap but I prioritize health over those desires.  Simple.

High 90ā€™s percent of the time itā€™s self induced.
