So our durable, dependable OLB is named Mike Neal?
Bush broke his fibula in Week 2, returned Week 12. So, he missed 8 games + bye week. That sounds about right for Cobb's timetable, since most said 4 weeks is best case, with 8 weeks being the longest
Reggie didn't play for the Packers though. In Green Bay, the actual number of games missed due to injury = the expected number of games missed due to injury X4..
Keith Jackson, one of the NFL's top tight ends, was traded yesterday by the Miami Dolphins to the Green Bay Packers for a second-round choice in April's draft.
As part of the trade, the Dolphins returned to Green Bay a fourth-round draft pick acquired in the March 21 deal that sent Miami receiver Mark Ingram to the Packers.
He was 30 when he came to Green Bay, and in the last year of his current contract. I couldn't find what the contract terms were once he signed with the Packers, but I expect it would've been modest. My point is, I don't know that he was necessarily a "stopgap", but I don't think the team had ideas of him playing another 4 years or more when they did sign him.
The Green Bay Packers are trying out former Cleveland Browns linebacker Justin Staples and former University of Maryland linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield today, according to league sources.
The Packers are dealing with injuries at linebacker, including Brad Jones (hamstring), Clay Matthews (broken thumb) and Nick Perry (broken foot).
Hartsfield is a former All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection for the Terrapins.
Hartsfield has fully recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last November.
Staples is a 6-foot-4, 245-pounder from Illinois.

Nicely played. Oof.
Has there been a report which bone broke or fractured in Perry's foot?
I've seen nothing specific reported.
I think Perry is gone 8 weeks. I'd put him on IR w/Designation to Return.
Thanks, H5. I'm on pins and needles about the extent of the injuries.
Any granular info on Perry and Cobb is much appreciated.
I suspect Perry will also be on pins and needles after surgery.
Damn....Perry was really coming on. Jesus **** **** ****
#Packers WR Randall Cobb has been put on injured reserve / designated to return, according to NFL source. Can return to practice in 6 weeks
better than I hoped.....if it comes to pass
I don't care what any of you say, but this seems to happen every year under Thompson and McCarthy.
Do they not watch TV? If they did they would know that Wheaties is the breakfast of champions. Our guys should eat it for breakfast every day.
Also, Dannon yogurt helps you poop, so for regular bowel movements, everyone should be eating that, like it or not.
There's lots of medications that can help our guys. All they have to do is educate themselves by watching TV. Cialis seems to be quite popular too, although they should call their doctor if they have an erection lasting more than 4 hours. Man, that would be tough if you were wearing a cup!
I was sure Cobb would have the quicker return and Perry was the IR Designated to Return guy... I was wrong. So the good news I guess would be that Perry is less than 6 weeks... or the bad news is that Perry is going to season ending IR later this week.
11 career games and 5 sacks for Perry. 6 if you include the Luck debackkled. Be nice to have him for a full season once.
I'm thinking the defense needs to wear clubs and boots for the entire game next week.
The silver lining with injuries is you get to see if the younger players can grow and produce. How Boykin performs in Cobb's absence will play a role in James Jones' future in Green Bay.
He will have to show a lot of improvement. Route running for starters.
People like to bring up the Andre Rison acquisition in 96 when talking about the WR situation now, in that TT should trade for a WR like Wolf did during that SB run. Rison was actually waived by Jacksonville. Wolf gave up nothing to rent Rison the rest of that season.
He brought in two WRs that season. Don Beebe essentially saved the season; Andre Rison made the playoffs.
People think Superbowl and Rison, but without Beebe's season, Rison would have been on a couch during that Superbowl.
Anyone know much about any of these potential LB's on this list?
He will have to show a lot of improvement. Route running for starters.
No doubt. But it looks like he'll have the rest of the season to figure it out on the fly.
I remember when living in Minny reading or hearing Bud Grant saying something like this.......all players get hurt sometime but there are some players that are hurt all the time and miss multiple games every yr. The trick is to determine who these guys are. Even if these injured guys are among the best players on the team what good are they if they are not on the field?
Why are the same guys hurt every yr? Genes, bad luck, techniques, stretching or lack thereof? In this new NFL do players milk it hoping for the next big contract? Do the league mandated safety procedures play a role?
This is a league wide prob, not just in GB.
I think it comes down to this: football players get hurt.

Mike Neal not practicing today, leaving #Packers with 2 healthy OLBs.
Guess not. Reporters did say he was standing on the sidelines though.
****, that confirms what Havel was speculating at on his radio show yesterday.
I wasn't gonna say anything unless I got confirmation.
Neal's got something going on with a shoulder according to Havel.

My pal @RobDemovsky has all you need to know about #Packers practice. I was told yesterday that TE Ryan Taylor underwent a knee surgery.

CB Casey Hayward could make his season debut this week. Looked full go in practice.

T Derek Sherrod practiced for the first time in 22 months, since he broke his leg.
Yikes, a shoulder injury? That's been a problem for Neal for much of his career. Torn labrum during college and then he hurt his shoulder again and in his what? 2nd year with the team? Not good
MJ thinks the injury situation in GB is hilarious.
Put some pads on dick!!

A lack of WR's is going to cause significant problems for AR on 3rd and 1.
Bruised Shoulder for Neal. Probably won't practice tomorrow
MM: Ryan Taylor surgery today. "couple weeks"
MM: Mike Neal. "Bruised shoulder".
MM: It's something that kept Neal out of practice today. Don't think he'll be available tomorrow
MM: James Jones. Very positive where he is. Friday will be the day.
MM: Brad Jones is getting better. They feel he made a step. I would say Hayward is ready to go. Had a chance to watch him during 7-on-7
MM: Offense and run defense practicing against each other component of improvement. It's kind of a moving target as team changes
MM: Derek Sherrod WILL be in pads tomorrow.
MM seems to be in a good mood today. Funny monologue just now when he said the teams motto is "Keep calm and carry on". Gave a history lesson about it.

McCarthy on Perry: Same thing. Couple weeks. he's real upbeat about it. We'll see where he is next week.
