Another way for PFF to look at that game would be to compare Smith vs. Rodgers nights on the field.    They were both basically asked to do the same thing last night.  You could argue in broad strokes that their game plans were similar in mixing run with short passes, IOW taking what the D gives.  Neither D was going to allow any long passes unless in prevent situation so both operated within that context. Using that context, if Rodgers performance was what PFF gave him as a score, WTF should Smith's be?  Too low to even show up on the chart?  But hey, they're getting a lot of clicks out of it!

Dear PFF dudes,

If you're trying to say that Randall Cobb is a good football player, I agree. If you're trying to say that because Randall Cobb is a good football player, Aaron Rodgers is not as good, then you're dum.

TT & RW. My god I love those guys

PFF has to be posting this for clicks this morning. Problem is, they're going to make themselves irrelevant if they keep it up.

I agree, this is bizarre and I'm wondering if they just made a mistake here.  It’s not a stretch to assume illegal contact by a DB caused Rodgers to hold the ball longer thus fumble.

And to those just ripping PFF: remember it’s just a tool.  Just like looking at yardage totals doesn’t tell the whole story, neither does a PFF grade.  They fully admit that their model has flaws and I bet after last night’s performance resulting in a negative Rodgers grade, they’ll probably look more into it.

I like the site b/c unlike other analysts, they try to dig deeper than the stats.  We all know every TD and interception is different and they try to factor that into their grades.  I personally like that kind of analysis but it’s not for everyone.

Here's several QB's first scored by PFF, then their actual stats.

Teddy Bridgewater, graded the EXACT SAME as Rodgers.

Eli Manning +3.4 (23/32, 279 YDS, 2 TD, 0 INT)

Dalton +5.8 (20/32, 383, 3, 1)

Carr +2.9 (20/32, 314, 2, 0)

Newton +3.8 (20/31, 315 2, 0)

Cousins -0.9 (30/49, 316, 1 , 2)

Winston +0.2 (17/36, 261, 1, 1)

Mallet +1.1 (24/39, 228, 1, 1)

Mariota +2.4 (27/44, 367, 2, 2)

Bortles -0.7 (17/33, 242, 2, 1)

Bridgewater -0.8 (13/24, 121, 0, 1)

Foles +0.8 (19/28, 197, 0, 1)

Roethlisberger +3.0 (20/24, 192, 0, 1)

Payton +2.4  (31/42, 324, 2, 1)

Rodgers -0.8 (24/35, 333, 5, 0)

PFF is awful. They do some good things but mostly it's a flawed system and not worth caring much about. Brad Jones being graded as one of their better ILBers a few years ago was tipping point for me

They penalized him for fumbling?  Er, PFF, that play never happened. It was canceled by a penalty which was probably the reason he fumbled in the first place.

That's right! Go All Jenner on them!

Obviously they need to "fine tune" their "advanced analytics"

Thing I hate about PFF, is that they are giving stats a bad name.  I'm all for more in depth statistical analysis.  Love trying to look at more than the same old stats that don't really tell much.

But their system is insane and makes everyone that engages in or follows advanced stats look stupid.

If you want to downplay AR for the fact that 3 of his TDs were 1 yard passes, I may not agree, but we can discuss that.  If you want to downplay AR because his WR do a great job with YAC, I may not agree, but we can discuss.

Telling me that your stats graded Aaron Rodgers (24/35, 333 5/0) the exact same as Teddy Bridgewater (13/24, 121, 0/1) is bat**** insanity and there is nothing to disucss beyond the fact that whatever your system is, it's a pile of hot garbage.  These imbeciles make every advanced stat look dumb, and gives every old angry pundit in every sport more ammunition to argue with.

Idots

I've been a supporter of PFF, though I've always taken the grades for what they are - the opinions of a couple guys watching TV tape within 12 hours of the game ending. This is pretty much the nail in the coffin for any credibility they had with the grades, but it's still a great site for black and white stats that you can't get elsewhere.

I can't always find it tabled like that. If you have a link I would appreciate it.

Yeah, it is a bummer. I like the stats but hate their grading.

On the game itself, I was pretty happy with the play of Matthews, Daniels, Nick Perry, Datone Jones, Jay Elliott, Shields, Clinton-Dix, Randle, Hyde, Banjo, Hayward, Palmer.

Good stuff.

when it comes to QB rating on PFF, Skip Bayless must be making all the decisions..

His rant against Rodgers today was pathetic. Pick plays, dink and dunk, KC had no secondary and a host of other BS to discredit AR. I have never seen a hater like him.

Who?

Few things I noticed when rewatching the game:

Davante Adams probably should not have been playing. Based on what he said during the week (“it only hurts when I cut&rdquo and considering the weather, MM should have held him out of the game. My guess is he’ll be sitting for the next few weeks. High-ankle sprains are tough for WR’s to get over quickly.

On the other hand, Eddie Lacy looked absolutely fine. I think the RB’s all-around had a really nice night. Lacy was his usual punishing self, Starks made a few nice play and it was especially nice to see Alonzo Harris do something with his limited work; very encouraging. It was definitely one of those games where they relied on the big boys in the middle to open up holds because Hali and Houston are so good at setting the edge.

Speaking of the middle OL, Sitton, Lang and Linsley did an excellent job of opening up holes in the run game and also giving Rodgers room to step up. I’ve come to expect nothing less from these guys. Besides Rodgers, these three are honestly the most consistent aspect of the Packers offense. Week in and week out they dominate the middle, doesn’t matter who they’re facing.

Nate Palmer made one of the biggest plays of the game on that screen pass to Charles in 1Q. When Charles caught it and turned up-field he no doubt thought he was going to the house, there was NO ONE there. Even Gruden let out and audible “uh oh”. But Palmer stayed with it, shed his blocker and made a play on one the NFL’s best RB’s. Palmer has his struggles but he’s improved each week. Very nice play from him.

Pass rush. This was beautiful. I don’t think the defense has rushed the passer that well since 2010. Granted, the KC offensive line is bad but they really got after people. Raji continues to dominate in the middle, Mike Daniels seems to be coming into form. It was also very nice to see the “psycho” package make an appearance. I’ve been waiting to see some more creativity from Capers in blitz packages and last night I think we saw some of that.

Another note on some defensive creativity, Joe Thomas played a good number of snaps in the dime package. Thomas played MLB and Matthews switched back to OLB in the dime. Just thought I’d mention it.

Penalties. Basically the only reason KC was ever “in” in the game (in the sense that they were ever really in the game from the time they stepped off the bus). KC’s first TD drive was almost entirely the result of stupid penalties by GB; GB’s FG drive in the 2Q was stalled because of the OPI on Monty. This is the third week in a row where penalties have been killer for the Packers. They don’t typically struggle with penalties but they have so far this year. They’ve been able to overcome them so far.

Damarious Randall had some good plays and some bad plays. Of course, as a CB in the NFL people will tend to only notice the bad ones. He’s a rookie. Expect a few more games like this one this year.

Spoke about this in the gameday chat a little bit, HHCD hit on Maclin was illegal. HaHa is a head hunter but he needs to lower his target. You can’t hit WR’s that high. You’ve got 90% of the body you can hit legally and he hit the 10% you can’t hit. He didn’t lead with the head, true, but he hit a defenseless WR in the “head or neck” area and that is a foul. Randall, on the other hand, had a perfectly clean hit on a WR later in the game. Led with the shoulder and hit the WR in the body, knocking the ball loose. Clean, hard hit. Nice job.

When watching the game live, I got a little frustrated with the defense towards the end. But re-watching the game I think we can chalk up the 4Q to just garbage time, prevent defense.

Can I really say anything about AR12 that hasn't already been said? Just sit back and enjoy it Packers fans; we're being spoiled.

Solid home win for a team playing lights out right now. I've said it before, this team is on a mission. Lets go.

Do you have SiriusXM radio?  Listen to the douchebag Evan Cohen in the morning.  He hates AR almost as much as Skippy does.  It's possible he loves Tom Brady more than Skippy.

Yeah bubbleboy, they are looking like they are well on a mission. No doubt about it. Nice game. Glad to break KC's Lambeau winning streak!

That Nate Palmer is really turning into a nice player at ILB. Guy looked completely different in OTAs and TC from anytime prior, and I am glad to see him have this opportunity. He just keeps making plays there. Ranging all over. Really great to see. I'm as pleased as you about our DL. Been looking for play like this from them for years. And that young secondary, they are playing very good football.

I'll add, this is one hell of a team win. I mean, so many players contributing in significant ways. O and D. Very solid win. How about the play calling? 32 rushing attempts from our Packers last night. Awesome! I love seeing that.

Now, this here is funny.

Completely agree. And, he also needs to wrap up rather than going for the kill shot so often.

Think about this. We are 3-0, and this defense is just starting to gel. They have been winning while learning their way with a lot of new players at new positions, and some older players who needed to improve their games, many of them making big plays over the past two and a half weeks...

I like this a lot.

Why does anyone care what Skippy says anyway?  He's a know-nothing douchebag.
