He prays to god about a god. He worries about things he's never worried about before. His hands, for instance.
Catching a football has never been a problem for Greg Jennings, but now that he's going to be catching his passes, everyone keeps asking him if he can handle the heat. It's tough to admit, but his confidence is starting to crack, even though he has yet to see one of those passes hum his way, much less meet the man who hurls them. So he prays.

After Jennings rises from his knees on this morning in May 2006, the first day of his first NFL minicamp, the receiver rubs blessed oil over his body. A few hours later, the second-rounder from Western Michigan lines up for his debut play: a 5-yard hook route. As Jennings waits for the snap, one thing goes through his mind: Just catch the ball.

See, this god -- a quarterback wearing a red No. 4 practice jersey -- is a stubborn son of a gun who might never pass to Jennings again if he drops this one. And he likes to put a little extra on his throws at first. As a test.

Plus, Jennings thinks he's already failed once, last night. He was lost, scrambling through the hallways of Lambeau Field looking for the rookies-only dinner, when he heard a noise on the other side of a door. So he opened it and â€Ķ

It was him.

"We were literally as I got off the plane and coach Musgrave walked up to me, I’m on the phone with Brett. We talked two or three times throughout this process, a lot via text and then on the phone. He shot me straight. I knew if there was one person that would shoot me straight and tell me exactly what I wanted to hear and the things I possibly didn’t want to hear, it’d be Brett. He did that for me. He’s excited, I’m excited, and we’re moving forward."

and saying he wanted to be wanted.... I'm over him. Good riddance. He is now the enemy.

If you can't stick it to the Packers on the field, then stick it to them off the field. TOG needs a hobby that doesn't involve ****ing people who aren't his wife

Wonder how Rodgers feels after sharing the stage with douchey-douche at the awards ceremony just a few weeks back...then learns that croc-boy was knifing him in the back and talkin schit to Jennings

Pathetic
Im glad Jennings is gone, but with Wood getting cut and now GJ, is there a growing discontent in the locker room that the upper management is not rewarding the guys that have gotten it done over the past few seasons.

I know they say they know it is a business, but we all know that athletes hold grudges and athletes talk amongst each other about situations on teams.

What kind of reputation do you guys think the Packers upper office has league wide amongst the players?

As noted earlier, Rodgers has been notably silent about Gerg's departure while tweeting about Walden and Crabtree. Methinks Aaron has known for sometime that Gerg was looking to cash in, more worried about personal stats than is seemly post-Super Bowl, and his dancing with the Queens.
I guess what struck me is that I never realized what a greedy person Jennings is. If he's more concerned about personal stats than being on a winning team, then he's just being selfish. He never came across that way to me before. I also think he had his feelings hurt by not receiving a $15M offer from anyone and his ego wouldn't let him return to the Packers, even though it's pretty easy to live on $8M a year. Fine, let's see how his personal stats are when he's trying to catch one-hoppers from Ponder.

And the bit about Favre makes my blood boil. Please, please don't retire his jersey. He's still trying to screw us, why should we honor him? Give jersey #4 to a punter.

He's a two-year Queen, and at the end of that I doubt he'll even sniff $7 million a year. They'll cut him or make him take less before that third year spikes his cap hit. What a miscalculation he and his agent made.

Since he ended up signing for so little and the market for him was so soft, I can only conclude that other GMs thought he was a product of the GB system and not a superstar on his own. So, we'll see how he survives outside the system.
Shocker that Brent was involved with the marriage between Jennings and the Vikings. They have one thing in common... neither of them were needed in Green Bay and they knew it.... That's gotta sting.

Minnehaha didn't work out for Brent and it won't workout for Jennings either. History shows that organization is a cluster-**** that teases the fan base every now and again, but in the end, they **** themselves.

If I were a Viking fan, I'd honestly be embarrassed how my team went after all the Packer retreads. But hey, at least the other players on the Viking roster will now get to see what a Super Bowl ring looks like.

I think this is a bit harsh. By all accounts the guy was a model teammate for years. He led by example and was a cheerleader for the other WRs as well. I remember him pulling James Jones onstage during the return to Titletown after the Super Bowl so Jones could get his recognition as well.

His approach and production in GB are especially noteworthy when you take a look at the other #1 WRs around the league while Jennings was a Packer: Owens, Moss, Ochocinco, Harvin, Marshall, Burress, Holmes, etc. There may have been more talented and more productive players than Jennings during his tenure, but I'd take Jennings over any of those guys.

It's human nature for a competitive professional athlete to want to be the best in production and be recognized as the best through awards and money. Like all of us, he had to weigh the cost/benefits of leaving GB for Minnesota. And now that he's made his decision, I fully expect him to focus on the benefits (more production, more money, playing with AP, etc.) rather than bemoan the costs of leaving a storied franchise and not playing with the best QB.

That's the way it goes. We can talk at length about how he made a mistake or how the Vikings made a mistake, etc., but let's not revise history and forget his contributions to this team.

Baltimore's Matt Birk, one of the veteran centers available last spring, definitely would have considered the Green Bay Packers if they had called.

"Yeah, I would have," Birk said Wednesday at the Super Bowl. "Look at the Packers organization and the team they have."

Great post, Robin! It seems that too many people think they have some close, personal relationship with certain players and are owed something back in the process.

They don't and they aren't.

Players in the NFL are nothing but a number to the teams they play for. Used up and spit out on a regular basis.

Jennings did what's best for Jennings, just like any person on this board would do for themselves.

If the packlers had signed Jennings to a big contract last year and all of the sudden he couldn't catch a ball, do you think the packlers would have honored that contract? Nope. He'd be shown the door in an instant.

If you guys could drop the perceived personal relationship that you seem to think you have with these players, you'd see that they are doing what most people would do in their situation.

You know what?

Gerg should have just STFU and stayed away from the commentary and the media

Nothing good is going to come of this. If he's all about the stats then why the hell go to Minnesota? Ponder is a joke and I don't care how many defenders stack the box to shut down Peterson. Gerg can't catch passes thrown at his feet or over his head.

The Packlers get the last laugh on this just like they did with Turd Ferguson, Brent, and all the other losers that think the grass is greener somewhere else. Take the money and enjoy it while you can losers.

Why not talk to a friend who's been through changing teams after being a fan favorite? Who else was there to talk to? Jennings has his ring and went for the money just like other players.

Being a Vikes fan I can see how you'd have that perspective. The Packers organization over the years has more often than not taken care of their own. They do not, as you say, use up and spit out players on a regular basis.

They do however supply more than their share of NFL caliber players after their own 53+8 for other teams.... your welcome.

LOL...yes, of course you do.

I guess I just have to wade into this one more time before I go to work.

Yes, Packer fans do have a special relationship with their team and players. For starters, where's your stock certificate? Then, if you still want to know why, you can go here and here. Go ahead, show me another team that has this type of relationship with its fans, particularly its youngest fans.

This is just another reason why its called "The Lombardi Trophy."
Look. I'm no Brett Favre advocate. It has nothing to do with the Vikings. Every since he threw that pop fly in the Philly 4th and 26 fiasco, then sauntered off the field like he had done nothing more than throw and empty gum wrapper on the ground, the charm left.

But make no mistake about it. This is about Greg Jennings bitterness. Not Brett Favre's. I think it's clear most of us underestimated the rancor. And it all has to do with the money GB took off the table when the FA market set itself.

Just more fan bias. It's expected. They take care of their own? More than other teams? Even when their usefulness or their ROI has dried up? Please.

And you guys can call it "stock" all you want. What it is, is one of the greatest scams of all time. A brilliant move by someone in the packler's organization, fleecing delusional people who think they actually "own" part of the team.

That dude was brilliant.

Cash in your stock, fandame. Call up ted and tell him that you, the owner, have a personal move you'd like them to make. LOL...I saved $250 and have just as much pull with "your" team as you do.

That dude was brilliant.

Oh yeah, you have a special relationship with them until they decide to do what most people on this planet chose to do when given a choice...make more money.

Then you burn their jerseys. Or hold mock funerals for them.

Yeah, you're pretty special fandame.

Where's my stock certificate? LOL...
