Tschmack's and Henry's comments above come closest to summing up my personal feelings about Gerg. In spite of all the rhetoric and speculation coming from GB or GB West, I think he made a smart personal decision that required sacrifices on his part for the betterment of his family. I can respect that, and wish him the best.
Luckily, for all players past, present and future, Favre set the benchmark for acromoniously leaving the Packers, and someone would have to be a douchebag of epic proportions to ever equal or exceed that. Jennings was nowhere close.

However, this the GB West Vikings we're talking about. I would like to see this create some 'unexpected' side effects; perhaps a nice QB controversy ala' Sanchez/Tebow, or some discord over "opportunities" between the WRs and AP as someone alluded to. I don't know if performance bonuses are still relevant, but assuming they are, it could be a source of internal friction...
Good(ish) luck Greg. Congrats on your contract.

It's business. The Packers have Cobb, Nelson and Jones IF the choice had been between Steven Jackson and Jennings I'd have preferred Jackson as far a skill position free agents. He has his ring and went to the highest bidder for what's likely to be his final (good anyway) contract.
Greg Jennings passes on Packers' $8 million offer

Can't fault the Packers for holding firm at that number or Greg for taking the money. If Bob's reporting is accurate of a previous early offer of 11M per and Greg looking for 15M he wasn't being particularly realistic and it cost him.
Yep, really stupid decision by Jennings. He won't be getting any endorsement deals with Christian Ponder throwing to him, his numbers will go way down, and he'll be very lucky if he gets through that deal without being cut or asked to take a significant pay cut. The deal the Vikings gave him averages about $9.4 million a year, so he'll probably end up making less money in the long run. This was a sour grapes/ego based decision on his part.
Gr-ego seems like he could've signed with Green Bay for a couple million less.

Alas Vegas Vic was right & his wife wanted to move to scintillating Minnesota.

Maybe 1 year we'll win the spring Super Bowl but not this year.
For once, I'd love one of these guys to just come out and say they were chasing the money

Based on the JSO report, it sure seems that way with Jennings. He's making a little more jack with Minnesota so he went to the highest bidder. It's really that simple

Now, if you are Gerg you could rationalize it (I guess) because he got his ring and has already proven himself with the Packers. The only thing missing for him was the big time contract and the need to feel like he's "the guy"

If you're truly about winning and championships then you probably take a little less and stay with GB but that's not what he did so I think it's OK for people to question his motives. I'm not going to rail on the guy for ditching the Packers to join Minnesota because he wouldn't be the first guy to go for the cash, but I will rail on the guy if he starts making "I came here to win championships" related comments. The Packers are a better situation now and in the future for a guy like Jennings

It was clearly about money ( I don't blame any player for trying to get in when/while they can) and he and his agent made a miscalculation based on the monopoly money given WR's in 2012 and what GB was willing to offer in the extension. The Jaguars gave a Cowboys backup a 39 million dollar contract for Pete's sake. Only to cut him after one season.

He left 3 million dollars on the table. I'd make snarky comments on the way out too. It will be interesting see what happens without an all-star QB and 5 other receiving weapons. In a run first offense.
If TT was a little more warm and fuzzy GB might win a couple March titles. Would it kill him to tell a player or two "I kind of like you as a person and would like you to be my freind as long as it doesn't cost me too much"?

Greg also knew he wasn't going to be the focus of this offense anymore. Just a spoke in the WR wheel TT has assembled. He's clearly the #1 in Minny.

TT has $8 million bookmarked for Jennings he'll use elsewhere. That's not a bad thing.

Somebody did that last year but that's not what fans want to hear so we get the lame cliches. It's the PR machine at work.

It's only St Patty's Day. We are already driving for our 6th score:

Sequestered

Shields
EDS
C-Wood
Hawk

Signed Jolly and Frenchy as a fiscal conservative.

Cut back entitlements with Driver.

Eliminated Saturday delivery.

Outsourced high paying jobs for Jennings, Walden, and Crabtree.

Uncle Ted needs to address health care by finding better trainers and we are a stable franchise for decades.

Zack Greinke just did that.

Gerg could have just said, "look, I've got my ring and Minnesota offered me $3MM more over the life of the contract and I'm now the #1 guy so that's why I made the move"

Instead, it's all double talk and it just sounds stupid.

I also wonder if he did some quick math and figured out that it costs a lot more money to live in the TWC so that $3MM is probably offset by additional costs/expenses anyway.

The Packers proved that they can do without him but it's not been proven that Minnesota can do anything more than hand the ball off to Peterson. Gerg could have finished a HOF career ala Driver but he wants to be a little more selfish and that's his call.
A lot of people would make a move if someone threw a big raise their way

But that didn't really happen in this case

It sounds crazy to talk about $3MM not being that much money, but if you look at it overall that's like a 5% difference if that?

You're trading Rodgers and this offense for Ponder and ??

Dum but it's his choice
MN has Manny's steakhouse. GB has Brett Favres steakhouse. Throw in the fact Ted never offered Greg a hug or a sleepover and that was that.

GB upgraded play at QB. Maybe it's time to upgrade to a deal closing steakhouse?
Pretty clear Greg and/or his agent consistently overestimated his market value and subsequently left a good chunk of money on the table. Flacco rolled the dice and came up big; Jennings not so much.

From the MJS article. We'll never know. But I bet they offered more than 8 million when they were trying to sign him to an extension. Just taking in to account what Vincent Jackson got and journeyman like Laurent Robinson got . The market changed. $47.5 (which very few players besides a top QB will ever see) isn't a bad consolation prize.

From MJS:In 2012, when Jennings was near the peak of his powers, a source said talks on a multiyear extension ended when he turned down $11 million per year from the Packers, which was far less than the $15 million that he told the team he was seeking.

Can you imagine what they would have had to pay Rodgers had they given Jennings $15 million followed by an injury plagued season? Jermichael Finley would not have been the only cap casualty. It would be Ravens style meltdown with no Super Bowl ring to ease the pain. Your highest paid player has to be the best player or you are going to get dissension. Even average working stiffs like most of us have seen the effects of that.
Here's why you never believe the words that come out of an athlete's or other star's mouth: Jennings told James Jones he would never wear Vikings colors, according to today's Star Tribune. Bert said he'd never leave GB to play for another team, etc. It's all about the money. Any pledge to stay with one team forever, etc., is only the heat of the moment talking. Very few guys seem to follow through. And who could blame them in many ways? The teams aren't very loyal either. So... just don't say it. We all know what the reality is.
Let's get real girls! Your weird GM is a tightwad and always has been. Your wide eyed boy has no loyalty to any player. Not even the best of your era Favre. Fact is Favre was not trying to stick it to anyone. The obvious choice of team he needed to go to was the Vikings. They had a system he knew back and forth with Bevell. Instead you took a legend and shipped him to his last choice in NY. You then put a poison pill in and it blew up in your face. Just like Favre Jennings only real place to go and get the money was the Vikings. You girls get way to emotional about players leaving your team and going to the Vikings.

Puzzie Harvin has been a headache everywhere he's played since high school. He's a minny Moss who has a chip on his shoulder that will be there till he retires in shame just like his mentor Moss. The Vikings had no choice but to rid themselves of this prima donna. They did a fine job of getting what they needed to do it. A first rounder and two other picks. If they hit this right and get a top notch wide out they will have Jennings for less money and another top receivers to boot.

You have big contracts to give out to Fat boy Raji. Fabio, and of course the biggest prima donna of them all Erin Rodgers. Have fun with that.

Now put down the crying towel and pull up your big boy pants. You're fabled franchise is just like any other. Players don't owe their lives to you fools.

Except Donald Driver....he's going to stayed retired. Love Donald, and will miss him the most out of all who have left the Packers.

With the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, The Minnesota Vikings select... Christian Ponder. Free Agency is the result of drafting poorly.

We don't mind the Vikings sifting through the dumpster outside Lambeau, but at least do us a favor and close the lid when you're done.

Clown.

But I agree that lately it seems Minnesota loves to pick up GB's players. Longwell, Brent, Gerg, among others.

I sure seems that way but who else? The only other one I can think of is the immortal Jeff Brady. You could add 50-60 900 but he never played in a regular season game and since I've been told Gilbert Brown can't be considered an ex-Viking since he didn't play in a regular season game, 50-60 900 can't either because he didn't for the Purple.

Darren Sharpier, Turd Ferguson, signed Kampman to offer sheet, went after William Henderson (who decide to retire), rumors about Driver.
