Depends how you define successful

The Browns have had something insane like 6 1st round HIGH level picks since 2012. Nearly everyone of them has busted or is hurt and can't get on the field due to injury.

Gems include Johnny Moron, Trent Richardson, Brandon Weedon, etc.

Their 2 2015 picks are busts thus far as well.

That is just a special kind of suck.

Holy shi*

I'll give him credit. Johnny has gone way beyond the point of no return in an effort to get Cleveland to cut him.  Haslam won't bite.

I think Johnny is going to have to back a coil out into the cafeteria refrigerator at this point. Or file a lawsuit that he got food poisoning after eating a few Flying J taquitos. Actually, that might really happen.

The Manziel family was something special long before Johnny.

Grandpa Manziel was friends with and used to spar with Jack Dempsey. Was a partner with Dempsey when they struck oil in east Texas.

Mom and Pop Manziel moved the family (Johnny and sis) out of east Texas to get away from some of the dubious family goings on -  "a federal grand jury indicted a relative for a drug offense in 2002. During the same time period, Manziel's grandfather, who is close to him, was charged with DWI, evading arrest, interfering with the duties of a public servant and bribery."

Recently Johnny's dad acknowledged that he was concerned about his son's anger issues, his drinking, and his struggles dealing with celebrity.

“Yeah, it could all come unraveled,” Manziel's father said. “And when it does, it's gonna be bad. Real bad.”

For fu** sakes, keep this psycho OUT of the league for good:

Quarterback Johnny Manziel allegedly struck his ex-girlfriend several times during an incident at the Hotel ZaZa in downtown Dallas last Saturday, according to a police report released Thursday.

According to the report, parts of which were redacted, Manziel and his ex-girlfriend left the hotel after he struck her. Manziel drove them to his ex-girlfriend's apartment in Fort Worth. The ex-girlfriend told officers that she and Manziel shouted angrily at each other, going back and forth, during the drive, and that he struck her several more times.

ABC affiliate WFAA in Dallas reported that Manziel told the woman to "shut up or I'll kill us both" after he forced her into the car.

The woman alleged that he was acting "as if he were on some kind of drugs" but maintained that he was not intoxicated.

Citing sources with knowledge of the investigation, WFAA reported that Colleen Crowley has asked for an order of protection from Manziel. Crowley reportedly told police that she jumped out of a car to avoid Manziel, but he followed as she attempted to hide in some nearby bushes.

“He grabbed me by my hair and threw me back into the car and got back in himself,” Crowley reportedly told police. “He hit me with his open hand on my left ear for jumping out of the car. I realized immediately that I could not hear out of that ear, and I still cannot today, two days later.”

He said, she said

What probably happened is what happens in most of these cases. Johnny and his lawyers talked to her and gave her two options.

1. We'll give you some money if you don't talk.

2. If you talk, we'll come after you in court and drag your name through the mud.

So she could either collect a nice chunk of money or have to deal with the stress and publicity of a trial.

Here is how I view Manziel: He's not an "alcoholic" in that it's purely a substance abuse problem that can be fixed through rehab.  He's addicted to the lifestyle that goes with the drinking.  Court side at NBA games, Las Vegas clubs, spring break, college parties, etc.  Substance abuse rehab doesn't treat that.  Frankly, I don't know what treats that outside of prison or almost dying and realizing changing your lifestyle is a matter life and death.

I'll be honest, my 20's were filled with heavy drinking, late nights and lots of partying.  So I get what Manziel is doing.  The difference is the means, as I didn't have any money and at the end of every night, I knew that I had to be ready to go to work the next day and perform at a high level or I'd be fired.  I had no trust fund or safety net.  Manziel literally has no limits as he has a multi-million dollar guaranteed contract, rich parents who have enabled him his entire life, and bosses (ie: coaches) who didn't care what he did as long he could win on the field (which he did, until now).  And don't think for a second that if he performed like Cam Newton on the field, his off-field issues would actually be issues.  This is the first time that his football play hasn't covered everything up.

Well I eventually grew out of that phase and rarely drink heavily these days.  I think Manziel has to consciously come to his own realization and I don't see how substance abuse rehab helps him get there.  Certainly didn't help earlier this year.......

On a side note, I couldn't care less if Manziel ever gets help.  I haven't read anything positive about him as a person off the field.  For a guy with that kind of fame, it's too bad he's given nothing back (as far as I know....).  There are literally millions of people I'd rather see get help and improve there lives before I spend an ounce of compassion on Johnny Football.

Agree, CU. I just don't see how a guy who's never had to fight for anything now decides to fight to become a true NFL QB, unless something really drastic happens to him. He's had everything handed to him, has no money problems, and has probably never been told "No." Expecting him to change now is a pie-in-the-sky wish. Even if he gets cut and no one signs him, he'll just party away his days. At least Tebow tried to become a QB by working at his craft; he just wasn't any good at it.
