The coaches need to build a game plan the team can execute. You can't do that with a guy who's been on the roster for less than two weeks. MLF should have a good idea what Clifford can and can't do. Have to give the team a chance in a tough spot. Malik is a longer term project.

I think this type of thing is part of the NIL package at places like LSU and Alabama.

I can tell you without a doubt, this is so at UGA.
The girl that got killed and the one that got hurt in the crash (that Jalen Carter was complicit in) were hired whores.

The university gives them cars and cash, and they are told to be 'on call' 24/7 for any player.

I think this is as common as breathing at all FBS universities.. The ones that place winning above all else, damn the consequences, that is.

If we all agree we can’t win with Malik Willis, why the fuck is he on the roster?    The SB champs signed Carson Wentz to a 1 year insurance policy in case Mahomes missed a decent stretch.   This is how it’s done.

Have you seen Carson Wenz play since 2018? He cratered in Philly and then Indy. Plus he’s a total head case. Malik Willis is better than him!

I have to think Gute has to address the backup position if Love is out more than a couple of weeks.  You cannot afford to potentially piss away the season because you think Clifford or Willis will all of a sudden figure it out.  It’s probably more important when you consider how shaky the OL play has been.

Latest from Ian Rapp and also Silverstein is that Love’s MCL is a grade 1 to 2.

The updated timeline is 3 weeks, but could be back as soon as 2 weeks. The extended time off from playing in a Friday game also helps.

Considering how that injury initially looked, that’s very good news.

Willis is in his third year in the league and scored very highly on the Wonderlic test. The Wonderlic has its flaws, but if a guy scores 32 on it, it does indicated he isn't stupid.

The scouting report on Willis is that he is basically a poor man's Lamar Jackson. He runs very well and has a big arm, but he lacks touch on short throws and is generally inaccurate. A lot of it appears to be due to very poor mechanics.

With 9 days to prepare, I think MLF can devise a game plan to win next week that involves a lot of QB RPOs and designed QB runs/bootlegs. If you can establish any type of run game, you can take a few shot plays (the old Rodgers/Jordy deep post route off of play action) with Watson. You don't really worry about having him get dinged up if you are only going to need him for 2-3 weeks.

If you don't think Willis can do this right now (and he was a guy you thought you could fix his mechanics with several months of coaching), go get Tannehill today.

You say it, like we have 10 games of tape in 2024. It's 1 game vs. one of the best DL's. Rasheed Walker was terrible. He's the one guy on the line that is concerning to me. Let's see what happens vs. the Colts.

I still say September is basically an extension of the Pre-season.

I'd trust MLF to devise a game plan for one of the backups before I'd pay Tannehill his (significant) asking price for 2-3 weeks of work.  Walker had a horrible game but I'm reminded when Bulaga went out to Seattle and looked like he didn't even belong in the league.

Not worried about him until there's a pattern of poor play for an extended period.

Which means...  Love might be out closer to 6 weeks than 3 and/or they have zero faith in Willis or Clifford to play winning football.

What do you pay Tannehill to come in for a month or so?

Well the team hasn't reached out to anyone per this.

Russini and Pelissero both top sources...although given Gutey's past record, signing Tannehill for a even 6 weeks doesn't fit his profile. What does seem to fit is Tannehill's agent trying to create some smoke to get his client a job somewhere...and faking Packers interest may be part of that plan.

Pelissero and Rapaport’s contacts with the Packers are the best of the national media, I’d go with them and @Chongo on this call

I hope we also don't tip our hand on who's starting this week until next Sunday. Vastly different skillsets between Clifford and Willis. Let the Colts waste time trying to figure out which way to plan their defense. Need every edge we can get.

The Packers offensive line last year outside of the Bears game with Bacteria, couldn't block the broad side of a barn for about the first 5 weeks. I remember that Raider game it looked like a Chinese Wok was on fire and they were all looking for the fire alarm lever instead of hitting anybody

Tannehill wants a full-time, season long gig as a starter if he can find it. That means waiting for a starter to have a season ender like an ACL for it to be a right fit. Not to mention he wants to get paid.

This situation isn't the Flacco job opening he'd want. Love could miss as little as 2 games, probably 3. That's not nearly long enough.

Agreed. I put these next few games 100% on LaFleur and his staff. He must find a way to utilize and take advantage of the skill sets he has with the players available. I'm not looking for JLove 2.0, I'm looking for the very best 1.0 versions of either Clifford or Willis, or combination of both. That might also mean running the ball 30 + times a game. It's up to the staff to come up with an effective game plan. Earn your salaries boys.
