True, suppose we don't. NO meeting was rumored, but don't think anything else was floated. Just hard to believe he wouldn't have had other options.

For a guy who hit 30 and who's had more than one year of back trouble? Good for Sitton and par for the Bears. I'm betting he plays well this year and then dramatically tails off...

At least it wasn't the Vikings. And I bet he'll get along reeeaaalll good with Va Jay Jay.
This!
cuqui posted:Good take here by Pete Dougherty at Packersnews.com:
So it sounds like the trifecta. Age/injury, contract and he was seen as a locker room problem. With that bundle the decision becomes an easy one to make.
Glad you got your contract Josh and I'm even more happy the Bears overpaid for you like we knew some idiot GM would.
So Pace is obviously going the dumb**** FA spending spree route. Good job Spielman Jr.

Professional courtesy.
Well what a great job! Never has to answer to anybody.
(Still doesn't answer my question)
Yes I did. Bottom of page 12.
Ha.
I can think of no other job like that in the whole country.
The harm is if the truthful explanation is disparaging of Sitton.
And he does have to answer to his bosses, just not the fans.
God damn I love when Notre Dame loses. Especially in excruciating fashion.
The downside of that, at least for me living in Austin, I have to hear how Texas is back... blah, blah, blah...
Meh, they'll no doubt lose to Cal.
Do like Charlie Strong. No BS guy.
#18, Swoops, could be a helluva TE at the next level.
Charlie Strong sounds like a porn name.

Boooo!
It was a fun game no matter who won.
Mike & Mike should be great tomorrow...
...Assuming they both show up.
The show is the best when they're both there.
Working 20 hrs a week seems to be too big an effort though, even when 10 of the hrs are commercials.
Bears also just cut Robbie Gould, who had a cap number of $4.1m. Was the highest paid kicker in the league. Wonder if they did so to make room for Sitton.
Course, now they also need to find a new kicker...

Seems pretty clear that something transpired that led TT to believe that dumping Sitton was necessary. He's previously expressed the importance of locker room chemistry and my guess (pure speculation) is he saw a potential problem brewing. Only real plausible reason I can see for why he wouldn't just let him finish his contract and collect a compensatory pick.
I mean, sucks that he's on the Bears but I'd rather he sign there and not to another SB contender making them better.
61+million on guards. Sounds like the NBA.
I think Chicago is trying to get a jump on the next trend in the NFl. 3 yards and a cloud of ground Michelin.
Hungry5 posted:How do we know... that Taylor is the replacement and that the drop from Sitton to whomever is significant?
BrainDed posted:Plus, we have Perry and Jones. The drop from Peppers to those two is less significant than Sitton to Taylor.
There has to be more to this. If it was only finances, Peppers is the guy who goes. More money saved and less drop off.
Are you seriously suggesting that Taylor, or Barclay if they go that route, deserves to be in the same conversation as Sitton?
There is no way you make this absurd assertion 2 days ago.
Sucks we don't get a comp pick for that. Something went seriously wrong for TT to give that up. It ain't just about the money. Can't be.
Doesn't matter.. Sitton was an asset that obviously held value around the league. At very least get a pick for him if you're going to move him. He probably upset Thompson and told him what most of us know.. he hasn't done a very good job the last 5-6 years. The Packers live and die right now by keeping #12 upright and healthy. This is an absolute mess. Why not let him play his contract out, get the comp pick for him.... Just silly. Are they playing for 3-4 years from now still? Gotta get some guys locked up for that 2020 run. When #12 is a year or two from retiring.. John Elway style.
Well since it is the Bears, it seems to me like now would be a good time for TT to let some information leak out. You know, "unofficially" or "off the record" or whatever.

It gets better. From Silverstein this am:
Chicago had groomed second-round pick Cody Whitehair to play left guard, but presumably Sitton will move into that spot and Whitehair either will move to another position or go to the bench.
Another possible scenario is that Sitton & Lang were both unhappy about being told they were not going to be renegotiated during the season. Both unhappy, Sitton was much more sour & vocal over it. Since he appears to have influence over Lang, the Packers feared that if he stayed, they would now have two attitude problems.
turnip blood posted:The answer to Sitton being cut is how good is Taylor. Taylor seems to be the guy the Packers will use to replace Sitton. This whole thing could be that the Packers think Taylor is either close to or better then Sitton.
He's not even close.

Yes the exact quote from Sitton was, "hey TT, why can't you be more like the GM's of the Bucks and the Brewers?"

High price for the bears to pay for sitton, besides the money, cutting Gould, one of the best kickers in the league.

We don't, but it fits the agenda of the folks that will try to twist this into a genius move by GB.
I've been doing instant analysis as much as anybody about this, but the truth is we won't truly be able to judge the Sitton release for at least a couple of years.

TT doesn't owe us or the media jack schit for an explanation. We playing checkers and he playing chess.
Good for Sitton and the Bores. Enjoy that 6 win season Chitcago

Sorta like most moves in every sport......
Would be able to make a much better judgment about the move presently if the circumstances surrounding it were known. Pretty clear there's a whole lot more to the story.
