I am not as bitter as I was a few years ago but still not ready to applaud his induction into the Packer Hall of Fame or retire his number. That is something he deserves just make him wait for being the jerk he was when he left.

The appearance with Rodgers helped him but it will take a few more of those before the glacier is thawed enough for a lot of us.

That isn't entirely true. They gave Favre multiple chances in the Spring of 2008 to come back in a civilized dignified manner. He rebuffed all those original chances and decided to come back in a way which would purposely sabotage the efforts the organization made to move on "knowing" he wasn't coming back.

Left amidst a bunch of drama and wanted to play for our least favorite team. The Pack won a title and he threw another playoff pass that doomed our least favorite team after he left.

It couldn't have worked out any better.

Bring him back with open arms!

Absolutely perfect.

I don't know why so many are up in arms about Favre. I hate the guy but had for years. He was a choker, a primadonna and was wholly uncoachable his entire career.

I think the whole thing went down like this. Thompson told Farve to retire after the NYG INT in the NFCCG. Favre agreed then reconsidered. (I think because he did some fancy ciphering and figured out that the records he claimed he never cared about had a good chance to be broken by e Melon Head down in Indy).

He came back to the team after retiring and said I want to play. They said stay retired because the train has left. He said, "I'm Brett Effing Favre!" TT said, go to purgatory - NYJets.

Favre blew it in his last game there throwing a late INT to ruin playoff spot. Off to MN. Blew it there in NFCCG with late INT, much to my delight!

Now he waits to be enshrined into HOF at which time GB will also put his name up in the stadium. (I personally would never retire his number, but perhaps they do or maybe do something like reitre his jersey, but not the number. That should always go to a punter or kicker from now on.)

No way.

I thought TT told him to eat **** and die. Good to know.

Holy Moses that is a ton of conjecture.
Murphy should shut up about Brent until Ted retires. I don't care how big a man Ted is, there's no way he can want to be part of any celebration for a guy who spent months assassinating his character.

On an unrelated note, I've never been convinced that the Packers couldn't have been even more successful with Mark Brunell at QB. Maybe not as many regular seasons wins, but maybe more playoff wins. He was a very good quarterback and much more protective of the ball.
After the 2010 SB win the Packers unveiled the 2010 number in the list of championship seasons with absolutely no fan fare or even any mention as I recall.

They should do the same thing when Favre's name and/or number are unveiled in the stadium.

Put it up there someday and make absolutely no mention or acknowledgement of it.

And then pull it down, then put it back up, then pull it down....

Did they sign with a division rival and take passive-aggressive shots at Holmgren, Vonnie Holliday, Jim Grabowski and Lombardi afterwards?

Disagree, but I bet that end-of-the-year interview was pretty chilly. It could be that TT discussed that Favre was not going to be guaranteed the job the next year, and that they wanted Favre to compete with Rodgers for the starting job. TT and MM have said they thought Rodgers was ready. I can see how something like that would have been enough to send Bert out pouting, followed by his competitiveness and ego pushing him to come back.

I'd say most fans need at least another year before they would seriously think about welcoming Bert back -- or another Lombardi trophy, whichever comes first. Big Grin
Seems to me that the organization has always been ready but like any relationship both parties have to want it and I've really seen nothing to indicate that Favre is ready. The media appears to be reading way too much into what appears to be an off-the-cuff comment.

The reporting I've read would seem to indicate that MM was the real driving force behind the change, not TT.

don't forget, MM was contemplating/wanted to put Rodgers in after halftime on that chilly day at Lambeau. sick and tired of bert looking like a cold old man that wanted to be anywhere but there. but he couldn't bring himself to do it.
and after the OT INT, reliable sources told of hearing MM through the walls and doors going off on how he was done with bert the gunslinger.

Not sure about being up in arms, but he insulted the fans.

"True Packers fans would understand."

I was pretty much done with Bert 4 years earlier.
I don't think Thompson told him to do anything. I think Favre retired and the Packers weren't upset and didn't beg him to return. He's a big ego guy, I'm sure he wanted GB to beg and expected the fans to mourn him, and neither happened. And so he decided to return, for attention, and there was no place for him. People say the Packers didn't handle it well, but how do you handle a situation like that and have it turn out positive? They asked diehard GB fans to have faith that their barely tested QB could lead the team back to glory instead of the longtime franchise QB who was fresh off a NFCC appearance. It was a good plan that clearly worked, but it's hard to paint such a bold move in a positive light when the media only wants to focus on the controversy.

I really think that even if he hasn't retired, he would still have been traded. Rumors were that Rodgers wasn't going to sit another year and probably would have tried to force his way out. Push comes to shove I think Thompson would have picked ARodg and moved on from Brett.
Rather than retire No. 4, give that number to water boy. At least he won't choke and throw an unneeded INT to keep GB out of the playoffs.
Far to soon to honor Brent. More likely possible say in about 20 more years when all of us that sat through all that BS that Brett was throwing about (along with all the INTs, of course) are no longer able to remember this.
BF thought he was the only Packer that won any games and without him the Packers would cease to exist. Well there was a GB Packer team before BF and there is still one after him.
NO RETIREMENT OT NO. 4 YET!
Twice the organization has begged money off the fans and sold shares of stock.

Make it mean something. One vote per share: retire the number, YES or NO.

Murphy acts like he's sole owner. It's bullcrap. Take the popular vote.

(No!)
