It's going to be a great game, a real back in forth slugfest. Lacy gets his first NFL touchdown, both teams D make plays but late in the game, with the Pack clinging to a 27-21 lead and the Niners driving, Jolly bats a pass into the hands of CMIII who takes it in for a TD. Pack wins 34-21. Heads explode all over the Bay Area.

Remember the Houston game last year? Well, I am hoping for the same.  I just don't know. My heart is saying we can do it, but I cannot drink the Kool-Aid until the Pack proves they can hang with the likes of the 49ers - aggressive fast defenses, and the read option.  I think our defense should be better and we do have Lacy!  But, the o-line worries me and I think AR will not be in sync with our receivers.  Again, I would love to see the upset, and I can handle a loss here, so long as the Packers play competitive and do the fold or get btch slapped - that will piss me off and then I will need some diapers!!  So, "Go Packers!"  ...and do not let the 49ers dominate you!  Mr. Lang, do something to prove the Packers are not soft!   Don't make me have to hear all the sht from the 49ers fans down here in NoCal after the game!

Have to give this game to the Niners on the road.  Expect the D will play well and keep it close but the offense will be out of sync until late in the game when a late TD wont be enough to get the job done.  On the bright side, the running game will show signs of life and Crosby will be 2-2 on FGs.  Packers will (again) start slow this season but will be the better team by the end of the season, just in time for a deep run in the playoffs.

given the entire offseason to plan for the 9ers defense, I don't think anyone's giving MM and AR enough credit for being able to exploit their weaknesses.  that rollout run/pass option we saw where AR throws to a wide open Finley - it'll probably be something like that. I don't think we'll see slow developing plays, they'll hit quick.  once the whiners are on their heels a bit from that then we'll get to see Lacy with the ball.  after that play action pass will freeze them for the long ball and the 9ers 2ndary is not what it was.

if the D keeps Kapernicus and their run game contained, all will be well.

if Kapernicus gets over a 100 yards rushing, not good.

I think the Pack wins.  Revenge win maybe if you want to call it that.  Packer O has to move the ball and not just in the air and win time of possession.   Kaepernick will get hit a lot more by our D in this game than the last and have second thoughts about running so much.

I'll go with 49ers 27 Pack 20.  Not the end of the world if the Pack loses this one, this is one of the 2 or 3 toughest games of the regular season. and arguably the toughest.  If they lose, learn from it and be ready for a potential rematch later in the year.

Based on last year I say the 49ers win easy 41-6.

The  Packer's  kick 9 Long FG, win 27-26.

The thing is we have not seen the  whole Packers first team Offence or Defense at all this pre season. I do not know what to expect from them.

I actually like opening vs. the 49ers. A loss, as long as it's not an ass-kicking, is no big deal and a win is an incredible jump-start to the season.

The Henry Burris defense.

I have no real read on this team right now but elements of the Dline improvement will provide a big boost we didn't see in the extended two month auditions.  With the new CBA, preseason is pretty much worthless for judging development for fans, at least in Green Bay.  It's like a surprise party on Week 1.

Jolly, Wilson and Daniels are going to provide a pop.  Let's see what Perry actually brings year two while this Dline will lock down the run again.  No read on Jones at all at this point.  Neal at OLB . . . yeah, better have some trick plays to make that effective.  Might as well experiment with him inside and out of the LB corp.

Oline with a scrappy rookie LT with Cup o' Stup manning the middle is a wait and see proposition plain and simple.  I am optimistic about Borat but he will make rookie mistakes.  Still think his performance will be better than the consistent inconsistent play of last year.  Lacey will make chicken salad out of EDS chicken ****, which may be exactly enough to put them over the top.

No way you see a repeat of last years playoff game but I still think there will be plenty of offense.  The 9ers are what they are, there are no Jack in Box surprises.  The Packers have shifted gears on offense; I think we will see Rodgers quick release in spades over waiting for deep ball plays to develop.  It's going to be short/mid range punches in the mouth with The Donut Roller coming heavy out of the backfield.  Teams are going to have to do their homework again.

You have to have intelligence to "train" to be a contrarian.  Think of it more as a derp**** tic.

The key to this game is the Packers O-line versus San Fran's Front 7

If the O-line gives Rodgers time to throw, no defense in the NFL will stop the Packers' WR/TE corp.  The Niners' secondary just won't be able to cover everybody And if the line can get a little push up front and create holes/lanes for Lacy and co., it changes the entire dynamic of the game.  I think the defense will hold its own against the Niners' offense....unless they are on the field too much.

Quite honestly, if the Packers get solid line play, I can see a similar outcome to last year's game, only with the Packers on the winning end.  But if the O-line can't pass muster, I see a similar outcome to last year's game with the Niners winning.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't know what to expect after the pre-season. If I go by what I saw in the pre-season, the Packers will get spanked.

If the Packers come out and match the physical play of the 49ers, they will have a chance to win. AR and offense will need to score early and often.

Not a very good feeling going into the season thinking the Packers will start with a loss.

Insufficient reps during the preseason? The offense could very well struggle, but the 49er defense will be responsible for that.

The 49ers have become the Cowboys of the 90s- that team they just can't seem to be able to beat but will ultimately have to. Not this time.

I love Vic....

Adam from Ixonia, WI

San Fran is going to be favored. Yes, we can win, but only if we play very well. We’ll probably lose. It’s one game of 16. A loss there doesn’t mean we’re a bad team, or that the season is over. Gotta lose to somebody. Just need to make the playoffs, right?

Yeah, you just need to make the playoffs, but I hate your attitude. Come on, Adam, where’s your fighting spirit? This is why we lift all those weights. Season opener in San Francisco. This is what it’s all about, baby. If you can’t enjoy this one, why even bother being a football fan. It’s all about the human confrontation and the 49ers think they own the Packers. You gotta love this. Your defeatist attitude is the result of fear of losing, and it’s robbing you of the enjoyment you should be experiencing for a game of this magnitude. I’m sad for you. You don’t have to play. You bear no responsibility. All you have to do is watch. That’s what I’m gonna do, and I’m gonna love it, because it’s great drama. Join me, Adam, in the joy of opening day.

49ers may think the Pack will be an easy win based on their triumphs over us last year, and dont they play Seattle in week 2. Thus, they may be looking past us a bit getting ready for an early showdown vs their in division rival Seattle.

Packers however are gonna be mighty ready for some riteous redemption and playing tough.

Final result: Whiners  49 - Packers 0

Afterwards a glum MM states we have to "look at the Tape" and promises to "get things fixed"

Just a couple thoughts I have on this game:

1) The secret is out. Teams have had an offseason to study San Fran's offense. They will have to execute much better than they did last year. The Packers offense is out there and they still execute well. San Fran needs to prove the same.

2) These are different teams than a year ago. San Fran is without Crabtree, Goldson, Manningham, Sopoaga, and Culliver and didn't replace any of them with players that are as good. Boldin and Asomugha are vets but who knows what they have left and Eric Reid is a total unknown at Safety. Green Bay is without Gerg Jenkins, Woodson, and Bulaga but have a healthy Perry, a resurging Finley, Lacy, Datone, etc.

3) Green Bay is the underdog which historically has motivated them quite a bit. And San Fran seems to be very cocky/overconfident.

4) Green Bay lost by 14, but most of the game was very close. Rodgers can move the ball on that D.

Now they can't beat the Niners who are the 90's Cowboys. Ok

Exactly GD, can't believe the number of Packer fans who will just roll over and pee themselves over the 49ers - who have won exactly nothing so far and are burdened with sky high expectations while being the reigning Super Bowl LOSER.

They lost their starting CB to injury, their starting Safety to FA, their number 1 WR to injury and now their kick returner/3rd down RB. The replacement CB Eric Wright is injured and doesn't even know the defense yet. They'll also be starting a rookie safety vs Aaron Rodgers in the opener

Their coach is one conniption away from the funny farm and the gawd damned vikings and Rams beat their asses last year.

Patrick Willis broke his hand, Manningham is still out, Delanie Walker is gone

This isn't some juggernaut, its a very good NFL team that will be coming back to earth in 2013 and we're just the ****ers to give them a punch in the face reality check

**** the 49ers

Well, just picked the Packers in a football pool.  So much for logic - I am such a homer!  I must of unwittingly sipped on some Kool-Aid or maybe my neighbor's weed smoke was fairly dense and blew my way.

Just saw the Niners schedule and holy crap- if there was ever a team due for a letdown it's those guys

GB, at Seattle, Indy, at STL, Houston.   That's their first five games.  And they play several other good teams the rest of the way.

SF concerns me because their line play on both sides of the ball has dominated the Packers the last two years.  I still don't like our OL vs the Smith's but I think our DL talent matches up better than in years past.

You also have to wonder about Kaepernick.  Teams have had all offseason to study the guy and he won't sneak up on anyone.
