From JSonline:

Hayward injured the hamstring in July working out in Atlanta before training camp.

Quit sniveling.

For a thread titled Last call for niner game predictions, I don't see a lot of predicted scores.   I haven't been less optimistic about a Packer opener in a LONG time,

SF 30

GB 24

SF  has the best roster in football and CK will run wild again...he didn't get a lot of yards in the read option last year, he got them scrambling.  He is a difference maker.

But I will predict a 2-1 record after three weeks...

This game defensively has an early 90s versus the Cowboys feel to it. The Vowboys were more established then, but when you get served like the Packers did in that playoff game, you can't help but feel nervous that they'll get you again.

The game doesn't hav any more meaning than any other game. Defense needs to set a physical tone right away though. That's what's going to decide this team's fate in 2013- defense.

"I’m sure from the outside-in, that’s the only game anyone remembers from the whole season. As a player, too, we have a similar feel, too. It’s hard to really think about the things that we did get better in and whatever we did we during the regular season because we it’s true. We set a high bar I think here in Green Bay that, I was telling someone here yesterday, we’re not trying to just go to the playoffs, get there every year and lose in the first or second round – we want to win it all. We’ve been there. We know what it feels like. I think, at least in this room, we’ve watched the season many times. We know where we’ve made some strides and we definitely know where we need to get better.”

"It sounds clichΓ© or whatever, but we do kind of have a renewed sense of urgency or whatever. I know I've said it a few times, other guys probably have I'm guessing, just because it sucks. We went to the playoff twice and got blasted. We got beat bad. They took the game from us. Specifically as defensive guys, we let our offense down, so that’s something as a defense we need to get some pride back and take it. That’s why I think this whole offseason, if you’ve watched anything, our practices or whatever we’re doing, it’s almost stepped up a notch."

AJ Hawk statement today.

Tomorrow's gonna be war part 1.

34-24 49ers.  I would love to see the Pack win but it's on the road against a team that has beaten the Pack pretty handily twice last year.  For the Packers to win, the defense needs to play significantly better in every facet of the game: pressuring the QB, covering, tackling, etc.  And on offense, the OL needs to play much better too, protecting Rodgers and actually opening up holes for Lacy.  That's a lot they need to do, so for game 1 on the road, I'm predicting a loss.

Bill Cowher had a great piece this morning about stopping or limiting the read option.  His point was the Baltimore DL did a nice job in the Superbowl focusing on Kaepernick as a runner or lead guy and they let the LBs clean up the RBs if they pitched or handed the ball off.    We all remember Walden just standing around looking stupid but Cowher's point was get after the QB and hit him regardless if he's got the ball or not.
