As long as the receivers read the hand signals

We all get a big laugh out of those hand signals. Me included, but they are actually brilliant. I wonder how many TDs and first downs have happened from them. That is one of the main reasons Rodgers should have been there for mini-camps and pre-seasons. To teach the "code" to the rookies and FAs, Its not a perfect method to audible plays but its a start. We couldn't do it in French or Spanish but maybe a code word might suffice. Just thinking.

Remember me as the prophet who posted this in the Philly game thread when Love came in. I will remind everyone of this unless everything goes to s**t. In that case, never mind.

You are about to witness the beginning of HOF history.

The only play when looking at those passes in the PHI game that I question his decision-making is the one where they showed Lazard breaking open, and Love didn't throw it to him because Love had already locked onto Watson. If Love had hit Lazard, he would have been on the doorstep of the goal line.

Part of the reason you think that is because Chris Collinsworth put that ear worm into the ether during the broadcast. However, I've read some other analyses that come to a different conclusion. ( see below)

Its pretty easy after  the play, looking from the end zone view - to make that decision. But in real time things look a bit different.

"The first one at the 1:52 mark I'd score as a good decision and a good play.
It was 1st and 10 in the RZ and he evaded the rush, kept his eyes downfield and moved off Lazard  to his 2nd, 3rd option. Love put the ball low and away where only his guy had a chance. He didn't take the sack, he didn't throw an INT and lived to fight another day. Not a lot of separation to work with on that one. "

No problem with the signals, just the fact that 12 couldn't grasp the fact that the rookies might miss something without practice. Which happened because he didn't show up in preseason and didn't practice a lot during the season.

I think that recognition is a direct result of film study, and has a much larger effect on real-time adjustments rather than having a pre-determined set of signals. And it applies to every player on the field.

QBs and WRs may see a certain coverage that changes the primary target on a particular play, RBs see how LBs are aligned, and OL looks at formations and gap responsibilities of the DL and LBs are some examples.

The play where Cobb scored the TD vs the Bores, he recognized as soon as he lined up there was a broken coverage, and exploited it.
Remember the play where Colledge (!) recognized some kind of snafu on the defense, and signaled Rodgers to run it behind him? He used a 'stiff-arm' IIRC, ARod recognized it, and it was an easy TD.

None of that happens without the players seeing it beforehand, and knowing how to attack it, whether a 'signal' is used or not.

JMO, others may vary.

I absolutely hate the take that Love was playing in garbage time in that game.  He was in because Rodgers was hurt, not because we were being blown out.  He got us within one score with 9 mins left in the game!  How are the Eagles protecting a "big lead" with 9 mins left to play up by one score?

It was still garbage time and the Eagles were playing soft to dry up the game clock. He didn't have control of it, that's just what it was. He came in and got some real game snaps against a live opponent, which is great.

I would think we all hope Jordan turns into a good QB. He has the skillset, he's had time to acclimate and learn, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. It would be a big help to have a better/healthy offensive line and a reliable weapon or two added.  Chances aren't great for an established weapon, but the line is likely doable (if they get someone not in the third round ).  Aaron Jones will probably get as many touches as his body can handle +1 this season.

I don't think anyone who even considers Gutekunst's handling of the Rodgers situation to be pathetic blames Love for anything.

Gute handled the Rodgers situation much better than Rodgers did. If Rodgers wasn't such an ass hat the Packers could get 3 times the compensation that's being offered. Even his bogus 90% retired comment has thrown a wrench in the deal. This guy went on McAfee for 2 years badmouthing the Packers.

3 times?  Not this year, maybe last year tho.  I do think a few less interviews and a bit less whackyness from AR could have made the trading partners pool somewhat larger which may have raised this years haul.

We haven't seen what we're getting but if it's a couple #2 picks  we could have done a lot better if Rodgers hadn't gone so public on certain issues. #43 in this draft and if the Jets have a better year as expected maybe about #58 next year? A pair of #1s was more likely if a team thought they were getting a guy more committed to playing at least 2 seasons. The fall off in performance could have been sold off as injuries and poor WR play. Last year we would have gotten 10 times what we get this year. < two first-round picks, No. 9 overall this year and a 2023 first-rounder; two second-round picks, No. 40 overall pick this year and a 2023 second-rounder, this year's fifth-round pick, tight end Noah Fant, quarterback Drew Lock and defensive end Shelby Harris.>

Sorry I thought I said that.

Blame Murphy - Gutey had it done

One aspect of Love's game that is different than AR - is on the designed run side
You only have to call his number a few times, get it on tape and force the force player to make an actual decision.

Play design influences the D away from JL

Nice clip of Goodson on a screen right after the JL highlight.  Was he the kid they cut for being a dingdong or am I thinking of a different RB?

You're thinking of Kylin Hill. Goodson is still in the mix and showed some glimpses of nice running ability in the preseason. I believe the biggest knock on him was the ability to pick up the blitz.
