Still....Guion had 3/4 pound of pot. It's easy to see why the cops seized everything.

Worked in criminal defense and prosecution.  In Wisconsin civil seizure requires the state to show beyond a reasonable doubt that the property was used in the commission of a crime.  Generally, this can include cars, money, or the like.  It is a much bigger problem in other states.  Some police departments in Southern states fully fund local police departments from seizures.  The biggest problem with allowing this money to fund law enforcement is it tends to make law enforcement more likely to investigate crimes where there is a monetary incentive.  Check this evaluation of the Wisconsin law :

For-profit law enforcement.

What could possibly go wrong?

ESPN scribes and others speculating the 3 games may be reduced on appeal.

... According to a source, Guion was notified of the three-game ban this week, and his agent and lawyers immediately began preparing their appeal. The NFL does not announce suspensions until the appeal process has been completed, according to league spokesman Greg Aiello ...

@RobDemovsky: 2 thoughts on Guion's punishment:
1. Avoid playing the compare-the-suspension game.
2. Decent chance it's reduced.

Wonderful, just wonderful.    Start the season without two defensive linemen, lose a game or two, get in hole, miss out on home field advantage...etc etc.

WTF....Maybe we need chaperones assigned to these guys...

3 games is ridiculous when a) there was no victim, and b) the charges were dismissed.  The NFL needs to bifurcate offenses between violent crimes with victims (or potential victims, ie: DUIs), and non-violent and victim-less crimes.  I get why the NFL gets involved in the first category, but don't see the need for them to get involved in the second.

I'm coming around on Rodger Goodell. I used to think he was simply an incompetent dumbass.

But over the past year it's become clear that if you mishandle every possible situation it's nigh impossible to focus on any singular ****up. It's a staggeringly brilliant approach that only a complete moron would attempt.

I don't think he's quite reached the point where he announces Tom Brady's suspension will be reduced from 4 games to a $75.00 fine while he pulls down his pants and drops a soggy coil on stage as a diversion. But it's not all that far away either.

Three games is ridiculous. It was a misdemeanor marijuana charge, that's pretty weak sauce for a 3 game suspension. Goodell needs to do a review of his punishments, then his office, and then fire himself.

You are forgetting that Guion was found in possession of money as well.  He will have to be tested randomly for money throughout the season and if caught again would be mandated to enter a rehab program founded by Mark Brunell and Lawrence Taylor.

It just means that GB has (2) extra roster spots at cutdown time with Guion and Jones out for week 1 (or more)

Pennell , Thornton and Gaston thank them for their benevolence

I'm not too smert about this but can't remember whether a suspension opens up a roster sport. My gut tells me it doesn't. Enlightenment welcomed.

Suspension guys are in limbo and don't count as a roster spot until they are re-instated

That gives TT  53 roster spots + the 2 DL on suspension and any PUPs they designate

Once the suspension is lifted, they'll have to cut/ trade players to bring Jones/Guion back and the vikes have to wait an extra week or 3 to get their hands on former packers

Then I said to myself, self, that is something those two would probably try and fund.

Regularly defunded by Brunell and Taylor.

Thoughts on Badd-all's punishment:

WTF?

Seriously, game suspensions have become a joke. Games are assessed by drawing a card from a deck, or the 'dartboard method'; seemingly random numbers that follow NO sense or logic. Of course, they are invariably appealed and typically reduced, again with no apparent logic or reason.

One could think the league and the player's union would've hashed most, or all, of this out during the last CBA go-round. I mean, who couldn't have seen this coming? I can understand the union not actively participating because it benefits the players to have no/little/vague language regarding personal conduct, but the league should have never signed off on a deal that didn't cover that.

It's a crying shame that legislation is required regarding personal conduct to begin with, but this current system is FUBAR'd.

Why do I feel  like the season is over?

They'll beat the Bears easily, and the Packers' offense is going to hang 40+ on Seattle's defense in week 2. Rodgers is going to tear them a new asshole in that one. Marshawn Lynch will still probably get his yards in that game, but it won't matter.

Man, that would be great to see. The high-octane Packer offense scored 3 TD's combined in the last 2 games against the Hags. Under-performed badly.
