Silverstein writes "Is it a coincidence that the shoulder injury popped up two weeks after he saw his chances for a second straight Super Bowl vanish with the crack of Rodgers’ right collarbone on the U.S. Bank Stadium turf in Minnesota?"

And let's not forget that Rodgers was injured when throwing a perfect pass to Bennett...which of course he dropped.

He was the only decent blocker in the game for a while.

Running game has not looked as good without him. Some analyst pointed this out inspite of his drops - he was a key piece in our running success with Jones.

Exhibit A why it's not always the automatic best move to sign free agents.  Not everyone turns into a C Wood or Reggie White.   While i was really excited about the Bennett move it's clear now that was a swing and miss.

If some are hoping for a change of style at GM I sure hope this wasn't Elliot's suggestion as I could see TT just locking down FA again.  Nobody knows if Elliot is ready but if guy like Dorsey isn't coming back I'd hope for an accelerated changing of the guard with TT still in the FO.

While I appreciate that is prevents from knee-jerk decisions, the structure of the Packers ownership lends itself to changes at a glacial pace when it comes to the GM's employment.

Even if Bennett was Eliot's call, I'm OK with it...because it was a calculated risk. MB was a pretty big cog in New England's run last year...it was a reasonable assumption he had more in the tank like Peppers or C-Wood.

The problem with the squad is it's HC and by association, his selection of GM. Capers has always been a "delicate genius" who would dial up some crazy $hit that when it worked, REALLY worked. But as time has gone on, his crazy $hit has failed more and more often.

He's been given more than enough chances, it's time for a change.

We have a very short window here...maybe 5-7 years left in AR's career. MM is pissing away the prime years of a Hall of Fame QB's career because "Dom Capers is as fine a coach as you will find in this league."

MM is Marty Schottenheimer with 1 Super Bowl win.

Most likely explanation to me is that after the franchise QB went down he really wasn't interested in playing for Green Bay. Only a bad signing with the benefit of hindsight.

Translation, he quit.

Monday Night was the first time since former coach Snoozy that I watched a team lose it's edge if not quit.  MM claims no one has stepped up which I read as they likely stepped down with an emphasis on individual preservation.

Big challenge for franchise.

IDK if it is "quitting", but I just don't like our defense. Seem to be a bunch of individuals, who are just looking to make the "splash" play & then wag their finger about it. CM takes himself out of the game on a critical down, Daniels talks about hitting people in the mouth....and then does, after the whistle, which keeps Lions drive alive, Randall pouts like a baby (I know he has gotten better, but he has shown his true colors), Perry & Dix are not playing anywhere near as good as last season. We really need some leadership on the defensive side.

Bennett sure does give FA a black eye, at least among Packer fans.

Of course, some might point out that when the TE position was given to unproven 2014 3rd round pick Richard Rodgers in 2015, he mostly became known for his lack of speed and elusiveness and inability to block anyone.

In fact, RR was so bad that Ted Thompson has done the unthinkable, signed 3 free agents at the TE position in the past two offseasons.

Does this make RR Exhibit B for it is not always the automatic best move to give guys starting positions just because they were drafted by the team?

(I could never make RR Exhibit A. That honor has to be reserved for Jerron McMillian who was given the starting safety position in his second season after the team decided to move on for Woodson. RR may have his limitations, but he can never, ever be considered in the same negative light as McMillian despite their both being handed starting jobs in their second years that they did not earn).

I cringed at the number of fans on this very site who a couple weeks ago exclaimed they would stop watching the team if this or that happened.  But I don't as much anymore.  At that point it was a lot of overreaction to the AR injury and how things looked in the rest of the game vs. MIN.  But now after watching the product on the field, it is more understandable.  It's one thing to drop out of SB or even playoff contention but it's a whole 'nother to drop out of contention for winning any game on any given week.  I'll still watch to see if 7 improves and if the coaching staff can dig their way out of the current hole, and to see if the younger guys start to show up.  But that takes some serious adjustments to expectations in a very short period of time.

Worthless....

Martellus Bennett dropped 11.1 percent of his targets this season. Only rookie 49ers rookie George Kittle has a higher drop rate (11.9 percent) among qualified tight ends, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Problem with this, I don't think Hundley can get the ball deep.

Is George available?

Agree Bennett decided to quit after Rodgers went down. My guess is he'll have a "change of heart" just about training camp time or free agency time and sign with someone else (insert Patriots here) next year.

Hard to resist gawking at a car wreck.

When Bennett signed, I thought the we might someday see his name associated with a Packers' Hall of Fame Bust.  Well I was half right, we won't see him associated with the Packers' Hall of Fame, but I was right about the "Bust" part.
