So are the Packers off the hook for even his bonus now?

One big question is whether the Patriots will pass him on his physical, given he had told the Packers before being cut that he had a shoulder injury that would not allow him to play again this season. Bennett had the shoulder examined by doctors outside the Packers organization last week and was considering surgery that would end his season.

Wasn't aware of that.

The mind reels with everything that could be going on here if he passes his physical.

Was this a total back channel black ops move between two teams?

Did Bennett tell GB he was done after Rodgers went down?

Was GB ok with this and looking to clear cap space provided NE claimed him?  Who’s paying the dead cap? I mean really paying it?

Why would GB let him just walk? What does that say about their internal belief about 2017?

Did Aaron tell Mike it’s no loss? Mike legitimately didn’t seem to know what was going on.

Crazy situation. The loser in all this will be Bennett if he passes his physical. But there are many, many questions.

And still. The best TE in GB the past 7 years BY FAR has been Richard Rodgers. And it’s not really close.

Hilarious - Martellus was probably a huge cancer in the locker room after Rodgers went down.

He'll be a good little boy in New England.

Man the NFL just SUCKS now!

I don't see how Bennett comes out of this looking good, and he probably won't care. This is shades of Legarette Blount weaseling his way out of Pittsburgh. Hopefully Packers go after remaining signing bonus.

Why did GB cut him loose if he’s healthy and he quit on the team if that’s what went down.

I don’t care what he does in NE. I want to know what’s going on in GB. Why did he pull stakes and bolt? Is it Hundley? Is it the offense without AR?  Is it the offense in general?

I swear I’m hoping beyond all hope he spills everything. He’s gonna cover his ass but there will be some intel between the bull****.

I didn't have a lot of interest in Bennett's situation; considering injuries at other positions, he was small potatoes in having a huge affect on the team.
Now that it has ripened for a few days, it's really starting to stink.

Surely there is no way the Cheatriots would 'blindly' claim him off waivers without knowing whether he could play or not. Sacrificing a roster spot for the next 8 weeks or more doesn't make any sense.
Nor from the standpoint of paying his contract/bonuses. It wasn't a bank-breaker, but still pretty sweet for 1-2 year deal. More than what NE was willing to pay just a few months ago....

Patriots are #30 on the @NFL waiver priority list this week. In other words, 28 teams passed on Bennett. (per NFL.com)

Right now, this is looking like it was orchestrated by Bennett... and the Patriots obliged.

If it's true that he feigned injury in GB to avoid playing once Rodgers got hurt, and goes on to play in New England....well, that just aint right. F him.

"In claiming Bennett, the Patriots inherit the three-year, $21 million contract that he had signed with the Packers. "

Worthless....

Martellus Bennett dropped 11.1 percent of his targets this season. Only rookie 49ers rookie George Kittle has a higher drop rate (11.9 percent) among qualified tight ends, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Rob Demovsky, ESPN Staff Writer

EVERYONE SAYS HE HAS A SHOULDER INJURY. i THINK IT IS HANDS INJURY.

To make room for Bennett, the Patriots will waive DE Geneo Grissom, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Grissom is a third-year player out of Oklahoma whose primary contributions came on special teams. He is eligible to return to the Patriots' practice squad if he clears waivers.

So if the Packers claim Grissom this would just like one of those baseball waiver deals.

The whole thing had to have been rigged. Bennett claims an injury and then goes off without a problem to NE? Of course no other team was going to put in a claim if a guy is let go due to injury and he wants to retire on top of it. That allows him to fall all the way to the Patriots. Awfully Krafty, and probably with Goodell's blessing.

On another note, I called it that he'd be back in NE!!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself. My head is swimming right now.

As for the rest of the team, I don't think that anybody has "quit". I would like to think that the men on the Packers are too proud as professionals to just give up. But are they going at 100% since Aaron went down? Clearly, no, and our defense, especially, is not good enough to go at 90%. Injuries aside, that unit needs to be playing at full speed, running hard and tackling. A 10% drop in effort would be disastrous.

Right now, the Packers just need to win a game. They need to beat Chicago in the worst way.

McCarthy also seemed dumbfounded about the Packers getting very close to acquiring Bryan Hoyer as well in his presser last week.

If Ted (er, um Elliot)  is distancing himself from keeping McCarthy in the know, that could spell big problems for this current coaching staff.

Hard to argue with this..

Pure guess, but since he's had prior issues with that same shoulder this is likely a chronic rotator cuff tear, not acute. And guessing he never disclosed it to the Packers when he signed until 12 went down, then decided it was so bad he couldn't play with it.

Now that he's playing with the other 12? I'm sure he'll be a warrior, a team guy, and gut it out for the Pats and keep playing.

This reminds me of this past draft when the Bears drafted Trubiskey after signing Glennon to a big contract and Coach John Fox had no idea that the Bears were going to move up to draft Trubiskey.

This **** crazy bruuuuhhhhhh.... Wtf. Wow.

There's some serious $#!T going on behind the scenes at 1265.

Remember what I always say.....The crap always comes out - 1 way or another it always comes out.

Charles Woodson speaking out against Dom got him ushered out of town when he had a few more years left.

I'm tellin ya - the defensive players are in full on mutiny against Dom

Oh & BTW...The Packers aren't beating the Bears - I see about 4 turnovers upcoming with Bears probably scoring 2 defensive TD's
