Henry, I don't know if Bennett saw the train or if Goodell got to Kraft first. It was a blatant act to get Bennett out of his GB contract and back into NE, and he pulled it off. I can see Goodell telling his good buddy Kraft that they either shut Bennett down for good this year or Goodell allows an investigation to go forward and NE isn't going to come out of it unscathed. If Bennett's done this year, they sweep it under the rug, then he comes back next year good as ever.
Sounds about right.
Per source, Packers' effort to recover signing bonus from TE Martellus Bennett fails. Stephen Burbank dismissed case Tuesday.

Thanks to today’s ruling, the Packers will carry a dead cap hit of $4.2M for Bennett in 2018. This means Bennett, Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson will count almost $30M against the salary cap
Something's going to have to give, and we know now it won't be Bennett's salary... big decisions coming.
That $hit ain't right
Yeah, find some technical loophole to excuse (and therefore condone, IMHO) conduct by a player that was wrong from any angle it's looked at....
Having it count against the cap is a double-whammy of suck.
Free agents become available for a reason. And it's not because they're healthy, ethical, team oriented players at the top of their game.
